Russia: Large-scale artillery drills held in Chelyabinsk region
Russian artillery units of the Central Military District took part in massive combat-readiness drills in the Ural region of Chelyabinsk on Monday.
Military personnel used the multiple rocket launcher system 'Uragan' to destroy targets deployed up to to 15 km (9.3 miles) away in a time of three and a half minutes.
The complex of reconnaissance, control and communications 'Sagitarrius' and 'Orlan' drones were also utilised.
Central Military District artillery units are currently testing their capabilities in the Siberian, Ural and Volga regions.

This stunned homeowner made an out of this world discovery after finding a ‘meteor’ in his back garden.
When Jay Sullivent heard a loud bang at home in Appling, Georgia, USA, on July 21, he went running outside to what he thought would be a car crash.
Unable to find anything, he takes a walk around his lawn and stumbles upon a burnt circle of grass with smoke rising from it.
Approaching closer, the middle is aflame with a pink rock in the middle and Jay exclaims ‘it’s a damn meteorite’ as he flicks the hot object out of the hole with a penknife.
Jay said: “It was so loud that I thought there had been a car accident on the road in front of my house.

US Detects Huge Meteor Explosion - 2019
A huge fireball exploded in the Earth's atmosphere in December, according to Nasa.
The blast was the second largest of its kind in 30 years, and the biggest since the fireball over Chelyabinsk in Russia six years ago.
But it went largely unnoticed until now because it blew up over the Bering Sea, off Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula.
The space rock exploded with 10 times the energy released by the Hiroshima atomic bomb.
Lindley Johnson, planetary defence officer at Nasa, told BBC News a fireball this big is only expected about two or three times every 100 years.
What do we know.
At about noon local time on 18 December, the asteroid barrelled through the atmosphere at a speed of 32km/s (20 miles per second) , on a steep trajectory of seven degrees.
Measuring several metres in size, the space rock exploded 25.6km above the Earth's surface, with an impact energy of 173 kilotons.
That was 40% the energy release of Chelyabinsk, but it was over the Bering Sea so it didn't have the same type of effect or show up in the news, said Kelly Fast, near-Earth objects observations programme manager at Nasa.
That's another thing we have in our defence, there's plenty of water on the planet.
Dr Fast was discussing the event here at the 50th Lunar and Planetary Science Conference in The Woodlands, near Houston, Texas.
Military satellites picked up the blast last year; Nasa was notified of the event by the US Air Force.
Dr Johnson said the fireball came in over an area not too far from routes used by commercial planes flying between North America and Asia. So researchers have been checking with airlines to see if there were any reported sightings of the event.
What's the significance.
In 2005, Congress tasked Nasa with finding 90% of near-Earth asteroids of 140m (460ft) in size or larger by 2020. Space rocks of this size are so-called problems without passports because they are expected to affect whole regions if they collide with Earth. But scientists estimate it will take them another 30 years to fulfil this congressional directive.
Once an incoming object is identified, Nasa has had some notable success at calculating where on Earth the impact will occur, based on a precise determination of its orbit.
In June 2018, the small 3m (10ft) asteroid 2018 LA was discovered by a ground-based observatory in Arizona eight hours before impact. The Center for Near-Earth Object Studies at Nasa's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) then made a precision determination of its orbit, which was used to calculate a probable impact location. This showed the rock was likely to hit southern Africa.
Just as the calculation suggested, a fireball was recorded over Botswana by security camera footage on a farm. Fragments of the object were later found in the area.
How can monitoring be improved.
The latest event over the Bering Sea shows that larger objects can collide with us without warning, underlining the need for enhanced monitoring.
A more robust network would be dependent not only on ground telescopes, but space-based observatories also.
A mission concept in development would see a telescope called NeoCam launched to a gravitational balance point in space, where it would discover and characterise potentially hazardous asteroids larger than 140m.
Dr Amy Mainzer, chief scientist on NeoCam at JPL, said: The idea is really to get as close as possible to reaching that 90% goal of finding the 140m and larger near-Earth asteroids given to Nasa by Congress.
She said that if the mission did not launch, projections suggested it would take us many decades to get there with the existing suite of ground-based surveys.
Dr Mainzer added: But if you have an IR-based (infrared) telescope, it goes a lot faster.

MYSTERIOUS Abandoned Places in Russia
From abandoned gulag camps in Siberia to ghost towns along the black sea, here are mysterious abandoned places in Russia
Subscribe to American Eye
7.Marx Generator
Hidden within a forest near Moscow is a strange, abandoned machine that might cause some confusion if you stumbled upon it one day. This massive configuration of tubes, and coils is what’s known as the Marx Generator and it’s a shockingly powerful machine. This strange device is capable of generating lightning bolts. At it’s peak performance, it was able to generate a discharge of lightning equal to all of the power generators in Russia, but for only a fraction of a second. It could create a bolt of lightning over 100 feet high, Why would the soviets build such a powerful, electrical device? This was to test how planes and other equipment would hold up against lightning strikes or to see how they would react against an electromagnetic pulse. The US had constructed a similar electronic pulse stimulator for the same reasons but it looks completely different!
6.Crimean Atomic Energy Station
This unfinished construction project remains abandoned in Russia and it was set to be one of the bigger power plants in ukraine. After pripyat appeared to be a success until the meltdown, the Soviets thought they could build a similar one on the the Crimean peninsula but not all went according to planned. A town known as Shcholkine was built to house the workers who were building the project. However after the chernobyl power plant disaster, many scientists began to doubt the power plants design and started to double think its construction. Today the city and the site are completely abandoned. It’s better to not take a risk with the same design that contaminated a large part of the country. Other power plants have been abandoned due to association with the one in Chernobyl.
5.Siberian Diamond Mine
Also known as the Mirny Mine, The USSR began searching for ways to make to make themselves a more economical stable and independent union. In 1955 the Soviets discovered large diamond deposit s at this site in the far away lands of Siberia and many people got to work very quickly in order to help bring wealth to the union. After about 20 years of operations, they finally decided that At one point this mine produced 10 million carats of diamonds a year and reaches a max depth of 524 meters or around 1700 feet making it the 2nd largest excavated hole in the world. The mine is so deep, airspace is closed over the hole due to helicopter crashes caused from the downward flow of air. It’s possible that controlling this diamond is mine is crucial to controlling the price of diamonds across the world.
4.Gagra, Russia
Gagra is located along the Black sea and stretches 5 kilometers along the water. The subtropical climate made for a perfect location for Russians who wanted to escape the cold winters but with war in the area the town became quickly depopulated. In 1989 it had had a population of 26,636 but it was left as a lost paradise when hundreds of Georgian citizens were expelled from their homes and many were massacred, turning it into a complete ghost town. The war-torn land turned Ghagra from a beautiful tourist attraction to a grim dark place where many murders took place. Many still claim the land is still haunted to this day.
3.Lake Karachay
Located in Russia’s Chelyabinsk Oblast Region, near the border of Kazakhstan, it’s been home to quite a few accidents, releasing a deadly cocktail of hazardous radioactive elements into the water. The lake has also been known to dry up and spread radioactive dust in the wind! Lake Karachay has been a dumping ground for one of the Soviet Union’s biggest Nuclear weapons facilities and it wouldn’t be a good idea to even get close. It’s currently listed as a near surface and dry nuclear waste storage facility and it appears from google maps at least that the pollution has caused the entire lake to dry up.
2. Moscow Downtown
While there is the Alexanderplatz in Berlin and Eiffel tower in Paris, you really won’t see more than just one skyscraper in western european cities. Here in this photo, we see the modern skyscrapers that literally look like they're scraping the skies. Although some of these skyscrapers are mainly vacant at the moment, Russia’s financial district proves to be at the very least, an impressive architectural achievement. Wealthy Russians can afford to live in these luxury high rise buildings, and enjoy the escape from the crowded city center. These unusual weather conditions allowed for some astonishing photos, with a mix of purple, gold and red. Here in this photo we see the Ostankino Tower, which is a television tower that rises amazing 1772 feet in the sky! It’s currently the tallest structure in continental Europe and remains the eighth tallest building in the world.

7. The Colonel's LIttle Secret
Similar to the Coca Cola vault, Colonel Sanders really doesn’t want anyone else replicating his mighty fine, fingerlicking good recipe. He has a total of 11 herbs and spices he mixes in there and the recipe is stored in the an upgraded modern security facility at the headquarters in Kentucky. What are they putting in our chicken? According to rumor, even the President of KFC doesn’t know the recipe, so don’t try bribing the drive through to give it up.
6. Room 39
It’s not like anyone would willingly want to go to North Korea but if someone were to try to get into Room 39 it would be extremely difficult. At an undisclosed location, most likely in or near the capital of Pyongyang, lies a rumored headquarter that's in charge of North Korea's underground activities. They are mostly in charge of gathering foreign currency in whatever way possible. Whether it’s drugs, counterfeits arms deals the lists go on. If North Korea were to get a hold of a nuke, it would most likely have to come from foreign counterfeit.
5. Chernobyl
No one is legally able to visit the Chernobyl exclusion zone without permission from the Ukrainian government, which basically means it’s off limits. Some people are willing to take the risk to visit the abandoned city but it’s extremely risky especially for foreigners who don’t speak Russian well. The only way you’re getting in here is with a heavy bribe to the police if you’re stopped. In just a short period of time you might be able to get away with visiting the outskirts without too much bodily damage. The sludge that’s left here after the literal meltdown of the radioactive materials is known as the elephant's foot as you see in this photo is still extremely lethal. Just after 300 seconds of exposure gives you only 2 days to live. It’s actually still melting and could one day seep into the ground water. Good luck!
4. Ozyorsk, Russia
Sometimes entire cities can be completely off limits in Russia. Located in the Chelyabinsk Oblast Region, Ozyorsk is considered a closed town due to how close it is to the Mayak plant. However people do live here, you're just not invited to this one. The Mayak plant is a facility that processes nuclear waste and decommissions decaying weapons of mass destruction. It used to be a location where the Soviet Union would find its source of plutonium. The area is now polluted with industrial and radioactive waste.
3. Svalbard Global Seed Vault
If the world were to come to a tragic end or certain species of plants have become extinct, the svalbard seed vault has got their back! Located only 800 miles south of the North Pole in Norway lies a vault that has a set goal on preserving plant diversity and holding on to large amounts of seeds in the case of an emergency. More than 400,000 crop seeds are stored here and includes seeds for 32 varieties of potatoes. The Norwegian government spent 9 million dollars on this facility that one besides scientists can go to and maybe some day it’ll be useful.
2. The Demilitarized Zone
Also known as the 38th Parallel, the demilitarized zone was created at the end of the Korean War to keep the two countries at peace. It’s considered to be neutral territory that neither country is allowed to cross and at least a 10 mile wide buffer zone between the two. It’s most heavily militarized border in the worlds Near this zone, you’ll notice quite a few landmines, armed soldiers, watch towers. You can almost feel the tension about to burst. North Korea even built the 4 largest flagpole in the world in order to giver the southerners a view of communism. You’re really not allowed to visit this zone, and some how if you find away, you may bring on another world war.
1.Area 51 Nevada
No other place seems to be so secret yet well known at the same time. Also located within the isolated National Nevada Security Site, the government only recently admitted its existence. They claim to use the smooth, dry lake bed known as groom lake as a runway for experimenting with new aircraft. But do to the extreme restriction many wonder exactly what’s going on out there. Motion detectors and thermal body heat detectors are spread across desert and will detect anyone who thinks about coming close. Not to mention the constant surveillance of drones that relentlessly monitor the area for trespassers. Conspiracy theorist claim the government is holding extraterrestrial life forms or even their flying saucers at this location, but it’s restricted, i guess we’ll never find out exactly, will we?
