ISRAEL: Hiking The Shvil Israel trail - 3. Negev desert
It is time to come back акщь Jerusalem to the Shvil Israel trail.
The Eyn Cobi source is a beautiful place to take a little rest.
But there is no water here, unfortunately.
The power line leads to the tomb of Sheikh Hubani.
In Hirbat Hanot there was once a caravanserai.
The trail passes on a site of the antique Roman road.
It is officially called - Caesar Road — it was constructed in 133 AD.
Since the time the Roman legions went on this road, it has almost not changed.
The Al valley — one of the large agricultural areas.
Tel Azeka hill — a historical place.
In the Bible, the battle scene played on this place, in approximately 1200 BC, is described.
There was a battle between David and Goliath.
The city of Beyt-Guvrin, known in antique times as, Elevferopol, is located in a very convenient place — the point of intersection of important trade routes.
Lakhish, nowadays know as Tel-ed-Duveyr, took base here in the second millennium BC.
It is mentioned in the Bible among the cities strengthened by the king of Judah Rehoboam.
The Yatir wood occupies a space of about 40 sq.km.
Up to 1964, there was a blank space here.
Then trees gradually began to be planted and now, there are already over 4 million trees.
The city of Hirbat Hiran existed during the Byzantine period.
From it remains the ruins of two basilicas and fragments of walls.
The trail goes through the Yatir wood on top of the mountain of Amas.
From here the beautiful view of the valley Arad opens.
The road which is cut down by Romans, passes by a stone quarry towards the Bedouin village of Dardzhat.
The trail also passes by the Tel Arad hill.
Arad is the Russian-speaking city.
There are no more foreigners here, than in Moscow, meaning those who don't speak Russian.
Nakhal Elim leads through the gorge, to the ruins of the Roman outpost Zokhar Rudjum.
Meyzad Tamar — one more Roman boundary guard post.
Near there passes the highway No. 45 connecting Tel Aviv with Eilat.
One of them hides in the narrow gorge near the source of Eyn Zafit.
There is always at least a little water, after the rain.
In the Negev desert, there are five craters.
The first on the way is the Hazir crater.
Also known as Maktesh Katan or, Small crater.
The trail crosses the crater Maktesh Katan on a diagonal.
In the beginning it goes down, below sea-level, then passes at the bottom and rises back on the opposite crest.
Meyzad Zafir, in the 2nd - 3rd centuries of our era, was a boundary post of the Roman Empire.
From here, the Arawa valley and the Edom mountains, which are already on the territory of Jordan, are perfectly visible.
The trail leads to the edge of the Nakhal Yemin canyon.
The trail conducts on the crest of the Karbolet mountain.
Its name translates as A cock crest.
On the Nakhal Afran gorge, the trail goes down to the foundation of Karbolet mountain.
Here, the Zin plateau begins.
The Eyn Akev source is a very popular place.
The water here is always pure and cool.
Ii is very tempting to bathe here.
The trail goes through the narrow gorge of Nakhal Hava.
And then leads to the edge of the Ramon crater.
It is the largest erosive crater in the world.
In the settlement of Mitzpe Ramon, they have constructed a huge tourist complex overlooking a crater.
At the Be'erot Khan Inn is the ground for the installation of tents — both open-air and under a thatched roof.
And rise again - on the mountain Parsat Nekarot.
Its name can be translated as Horseshoe.
We spent the night at the Gev Holit camp.
It is in the gorge Nakhal Geled, near the dry falls.
The trail continues along the gorge Nakhal Nekarot, then begins to rise to the mountain Yakhav.
The trail takes you to the wide Nakhal Karkeshit gorge.
We are in a huge caldera, or in other words, at the bottom of a volcano.
The ancient Nabatean city of Moa, was one of the largest trading centers on the Road of spices.
The trail continues along the wide gorge of Nakhal Ashosh.
It then passes into the neighboring gorge and brings us to the road leading to the entrance of the Barack canyon.
And then it goes down and through the Vardit canyon and lowers into the wide gorge Nakhal Parran.
The part of the trail going from Zikhor to Shizafon, goes parallel to the highway No. 40.
The sandy dunes of Kasui — is one of the brightest and unusual sights of the Negev desert.
The trail brings us to the steep edge of Maale Milkhan.
The descent down to the valley Arawa begins.
Behind the valley, the mountains of Edom are visible in the distance.
Followed by a slow and long rise to the top of the Timna mountain.
In the center of the Timn park there is a real oasis - Agamas Nekhushtam.
In 48 days, 920 kilometers have been walked, from the kibbutz Dan on the far north of Israel, to Eilat.

Антоха. Путешествие из Магадана в Европу / Journey from Magadan to Europe (English subs)

DAVAO AND BEYOND: The History of San Pedro Cathedral
San Pedro Cathedral, the oldest church in Davao City, and a historical landmark. The living witness of what Davao has become.
Before it became a parish, it was then called Yglesia Mision de Bergara dela Nueva Guipuzcoa. It was named by José Cruz D. Uyanguren, after his hometown and province in Spain, when he colonized Davao on June 29,1848.
To cater to the growing number of Catholic faithful in the city, from being built in nipa, and bamboo,it was reconstructed several times as years pass by.
It was rebuilt in wood in the mid nineties, and Architect Ramon Basa designed the church.
The cathedral seemingly took a Gothic architecture, with two bell towers standing symmetrical to each other, and the main entrance is in between them.
Adjacent to the church was then Immaculate Conception College building (now University of Immaculate Conception). This is the oldest private school established in 1906. It was then called St. Peter Parochial School.
The school was transfered to Father Selga Street in Bankerohan as its new site while St. Peter Auditorium in San Pedro Street, was converted as the Parish Office.
By 1964, San Pedro Church went another reconstruction.
From wood, it was finally remodeled in concrete by Architect Manuel Chiew.
The rebuilding of the church also signified a symbolic design reflecting the different people living in Davao.
The roofline of the church was designed to look like the prow of avinta. A Mindanao boat, gliding on water, carrying a cross at its helm.
The vinta representing Muslim Mindanao, and the cross representing Christianity. United in spite if their difference.
The present church today is 55 years old since it was reconstructed in 1964.
One of the many notable sights at San Pedro Cathedral is the Bell Tower. In the right wing of the present church, the old altar that was originally designed by Architect Basa was preserved.
Those who grew up going to San Pedro Church in the old days find the altar as a great reminder of what Davao City and the Catholic faith have evolved in many years.
A true living witness of many tears and joyful celebration.

Get to know the story of Rasputin, known as the “Mad Monk,” who was assassinated for his involvement with the Russian monarchy.
--
On a night in 1916, Russian aristocrats set a plot of assassination into motion. If all went as planned, a man would be dead by morning, though others had already tried and failed. The monarchy was on the brink of collapse, and they believed this man was the single cause of it all. Who was he, and why was he to blame for the fate of an empire? Eden Girma explores the life of the notorious Rasputin.

Herod's Masada Israel - You Must See It To Believe It! - Tour Guide: Zahi Shaked. October 18, 2015
Zahi Shaked A tour guide in Israel and his camera zahigo25@walla.com +972-54-6905522 tel סיור עם מורה הדרך ומדריך הטיולים צחי שקד 0546905522
My name is Zahi Shaked
In 2000 I became a registered liscenced tourist guide.
My dedication in life is to pass on the ancient history of the Holy Land.
Following upon many years of travel around the world, which was highlighted by a very exciting emotional and soul-searching meeting with the Dalai Lama, I realized that I had a mission. To pass on the the history of the Holy Land, its religions, and in particular, the birth and development of Christianity.
In order to fulfill this calling in the best way possible, I studied in depth, visited, and personally experienced each and every important site of the ancient Christians. I studied for and received my first bachelors degree in the ancient history of the Holy Land, and am presently completing my studies for my second degree.(Masters)
Parralel to my studies, and in order to earn a living, I was employed for many years in advertising. What I learned there was how to attract the publics attention, generate and, increase interest, and assimilate information. All this I use as tools to describe, explain and deepen the interest in the sites that we visit. From my experience, I have learned that in this way, the Holy Land becomes more than just history, and that the large stones that we see scattered about in dissaray, join together one by one until they become - a Byzantine Church. This also happens when I lead a group of Pilgrims in the Steps of Jesus. We climb to the peak of Mount Precipice, glide over the land to the Sea of Galilee, land on the water and see the miracle which enfolds before us. This is a many faceted experience. Not only history which you will remember and cherish, but an experience which I hope will be inplanted in your hearts and minds, and will accompany you all the days of your life.

10 days in prison for objecting to participate in the annual compulsory military exercises
Today, Tuesday, 25 February 2014, Turkish Cypriot conscientious objector Murat Kanatlı was sentenced to 10 days in prison for objecting to participate in the annual compulsory military exercises in the northern part of Cyprus on the basis of his ideological conscientious objection.
Murat Kanatli, an European Bureau for Conscientious Objection (EBCO) Board member, had declared his conscientious objection on ideological grounds in 2009 and has since refused each year to participate in the annual compulsory military exercises in the northern part of Cyprus. On 14 June 2011 he was summoned to appear in the Military court on charges relating to his refusal in 2009. After numerous postponements, on 8 December 2011 the Military Court accepted the demand of Murat Kanatli to refer his case to the Constitutional Court, as it refers to freedom of conscience which is a human right.
The Constitutional Court in its Judgment on 11 October 2013 expressed that opposition to military service, where it is motivated by a serious and insurmountable conflict between the obligation to serve in the army and a person's conscience or his deeply and genuinely held religious or other beliefs required the protection of the human right to freedom of thought which exists in Article 23 of the Constitution and is safeguarded in Article 9 of European Convention of Human Rights and Article 18 of the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights. However, the Constitutional Court went on to state that compulsory military exercises do not constitute a conflict with the Constitution. The Court added that the duty is upon the legislator to provide in laws and regulations for alternative service to military service and when doing so to review the article of the Constitution that relates the right and duty to homeland to armed service only.
After the decision of the Constitutional Court the trial of Murat Kanatlı continued at the Military Court which delivered its judgment today, stating that the right to conscientious objection is not regulated in domestic laws and it only took the constitutional provision on right and duty to homeland to armed service and the relevant legislation on armed services while disregarding the decisions of the European Court of Human Rights. The Court went on to state that even if it was going to give a judgement in the light of the relevant case law of ECtHR, Kanatli was objecting to serve due to his political beliefs which the Court did not consider to constituting a conviction or belief of sufficient cogency, seriousness, cohesion and importance to attract the guarantees that are safeguarded in Article 9 of ECHR. Furthermore, the Court continued to say that as alternative service is not regulated and because of the existence of the Cyprus conflict the case would fall under the limitation because it considered the regulation to be necessary in a democratic society in the interests of public safety. The court gave a penalty of 500 Turkish liras and 10 days in prison if Kanatli failed to pay the penalty. Upon refusal to pay the penalty Kanatli is sent to serve 10 days in prison.
It is important to state that this decision is solely regarding the refusal to participate in the year 2009. The cases relating to objection to serve in 2010 and 2011 are still pending!
The Initiative for Conscientious Objection in Cyprus calls upon the international community to express its solidarity with Murat Kanatlı and send letters of protest to the Turkish Cypriot authorities as well as Turkish authorities' embassies abroad which is the country directly responsible for human rights violations in the northern part of Cyprus following the Turkish invasion of the territories in 1974.
