Around Town: Beaufort
Beaufort has seen a lot in its long, colorful life.
This coastal community, established in 1709 and incorporated in 1723, is the third-oldest town in North Carolina (only Bath and Edenton are older). In the three centuries since its founding, pirates, freed slaves, fishermen, and a host of other travelers have all sought shelter in this quiet corner of Carteret County.
Today, some 4,000 people live there year-round; come summertime, this town swells with folks visiting from across the state and around the world.

Our History
Palmetto Exterminators, Inc. was established in 1960 in Walterboro, South Carolina. Albert and Lillian Snyder purchased the company in 1976, and the company has been in the Snyder family since that time. Albert Bud Snyder is a graduate of Penn State with degrees in Education and Entomology and has spent his entire career in the pest control industry. In 1976, Bud Snyder put his knowledge and experience to work at Palmetto Exterminators.
During the late 70's and early 80's, Palmetto Exterminators expanded adding branch offices in Beaufort and Charleston. In 1990, Bud and Lillian's youngest son, Bert Snyder, an entomology graduate from Clemson University, joined his parents in the family business and took responsibility for management of the Charleston branch office. During the 1990's, Palmetto Exterminators expanded again to meet the demands of its customers opening a Summerville branch office and a Greenville branch office. In 1999, with the retirement of Lillian Snyder, son Lance Snyder joined his brother in the family business bringing with him 15 years experience in accounting and business management.
Palmetto Exterminators has continued to prosper in the new Millennium adding two more branch offices -- Columbia, South Carolina and Charlotte, North Carolina. In 2003, Bert and Lance Snyder established Palmetto Mosquito Control, LLC, in an effort once again to meet the needs and concerns of their valued customer base. Focusing on the values of honesty, integrity, professionalism, leadership, safety and family, instilled in them by their parents Bud and Lil Snyder, Bert and Lance Snyder have propelled Palmetto Exterminators to one of the best, most innovative and most respected pest control companies, not only in the Carolinas and Georgia, but in the United States.
Pest control refers to the regulation or management of a species defined as a pest, usually because it is perceived to be detrimental to a person's health, the ecology or the economy.
Practitioners of pest control are referred to as exterminators.
The mosquitoes are a family of small, midge-like flies: the Culicidae. Although a few species are harmless or even useful to humanity, most are considered a nuisance because they consume blood from living vertebrates, including humans. The females of many species of mosquitoes are blood-eating pests. In feeding on blood, some of them transmit extremely harmful human and livestock diseases, such as malaria, yellow fever, and filariasis.
Termites are a group of eusocial insects that, until recently, were classified at the taxonomic rank of order Isoptera (see taxonomy below), but are now accepted as the infraorderIsoptera, of the cockroach order Blattodea. While termites are commonly known, especially in Australia, as white ants, they are for practical purposes unrelated to the ants (although they are prey to some ants, including the acrobat ant).
The American cockroach (Periplaneta americana), also colloquially known as the waterbug, but not a true waterbug since it is not aquatic, or misidentified as the palmetto bug, is the largest species of common cockroach, and often considered a pest.
