Ogden Utah Waterfall Canyon Hike
Hiking Waterfall Canyon In Utah
Ranked one of the most popular trails in Ogden, the Waterfall Canyon trail begins at the top of 29th St. The trail head is called the 29th street trail head and is the access point to a series of marked trails including the Bonneville Shoreline trail.
From the parking lot, the Waterfall Canyon trail heads east and begins to climb its way into the foothills. A portion of this trail leads through private property. In the past this section has been closed by the landowner because of vandalism and trash left by the hikers. Please when making your way through the private section stay on the trail, don’t leave any trash, and respect the landowner's property. You must cross this private property to access the canyon, so do your part in protecting this access.
As you make your way through the private section the trail begins to climb into the canyon. The lower portion of the trail is a wide path that eventually shrinks down to a single track as you make your way up the canyon.
Once in the canyon, the trail follows the creek to the waterfall. There are a few rocky sections, and on our visit the trail was wet due to runoff. A good pair of hiking shoes or boots is recommended for this hike. As you approach the waterfall the base of the fall is steep and covered in loose, slippery rock and requires some effort the closer you get.
Although this trail is considered a moderate hike with a consistent elevation gain all the way to the falls, it’s well worth the effort. Hikers will enjoy the views of the valley, the creek, and the 200ft waterfall.

Kevin & Heather Hike Through Waterfall Canyon In Ogden Utah
Waterfall Canyon
Length: 2.4 miles out and back
Difficulty: Strenuous
Description: This short but strenuous hike includes a rugged scramble over steep, rocky terrain, yet it has long been one of Ogden's most popular hikes thanks to the spectacular 200-foot waterfall at the upper end of the canyon. Please respect the private property on both sides of the trail and don't be tempted to climb the cliffs around the waterfall. It's illegal and several hikers have fallen to their deaths from the treacherous rocks.
The total hiking distance is short but the hike is strenuous because you must cross steep, rocky terrain. The hike is out and back, you return the way you came in.
29th Street Trailhead
The trail begins at the Mt Ogden Trailhead at the top of 29th Street, on the east side of Ogden. Several signed trails begin here. Follow the trail signed as Malan Falls. The first part of the hike is easy, as it climbs uphill to the Bonneville Shoreline Trail. From there follow the Shoreline Trail south to the mouth of Waterfall Canyon.
Canyon Mouth
Spur trails run in every direction but it is easy to follow the main trail. After crossing the wooden bridge at the mouth of Waterfall Canyon, follow the obvious trail along the south side of the small stream. After a short distance the trail crosses to the north side, again via a wooden bridge. From there just continue following the trail along the north side until you see the waterfall.
Waterfall
To get close to the waterfall you'll have to rock hop or wade the stream a time or two, depending on water levels. During spring and early summer you may have to wade. The final approach is difficult but well worth the effort.

Bonneville Shoreline Trail-- Ogden Canyon to Strongs Canyon
I ran this in December 2015.
I would highly recommend this section of the trail for a trail run or a walk. The first 3 miles from Ogden Canyon is a steady climb and then it levels off for a mile or so till Strongs Canyon. It is great all seasons- even in the snow.

Hiking Ogden's Newest Trail
OK, so I know this video seems a bit ridiculous. That's because it is. I just thought it would be a fun, quick video to make honoring the new trail that a kid in my neighborhood did for his Eagle Project. If you thought this was serious, that's OK, I hope you still enjoyed it. Get out there and explore, everyone. Ogden has a lot to offer.

After a short but difficult hike through a very rocky terrain up along a stream, I finally made it to the 200 foot waterfall and watched as many others had the same idea on this nice day in August 2012.
Lower Bells Canyon Waterfall Little Cottonwood Canyon Utah
The Lower Bells Canyon Waterfall is a spectacular waterfall and a must see during the spring, summer, and fall months. The trail head for the Lower Bells Canyon Waterfall is located at the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon. From the trail head the first point of interest is the Bells Canyon Reservoir. This reservoir is a great place to take the entire family as the hike to the reservoir is only about a 20 minutes. It's also a great place to rest, hydrate, and get ready for the hike to the falls.
From the reservoir you're going to follow a service road to the Bells Canyon Trail Head sign. The lower portion of the trail makes its way through grassy flats with little elevation gain. Once you make your way across the foot bridge this is when the elevation gain to the falls kicks in.
The trail is rocky and requires a little maneuvering over and around the boulders. On our hike the trail was dry, but we have heard that early in the season during runoff the trail becomes a small stream. Once at the falls you cannot mistake the roar of the water plunging over the falls. The decent to the base is fairly steep so use caution. This location is beautiful and offers picturesque scenery of not only the falls but the Salt Lake Valley as well. In the early spring the wildflowers are in full bloom and the falls will be roaring with spring runoff making this time of year a great time to visit.
No matter what time of year you visit this beautiful location please use caution as there have be many people that have been injured and even killed while visiting the Lower Bells Canyon Waterfall.
Trail Stats:
The trail head is located ¼ mile from Wasatch Blvd. and the 9800 South Intersection.
From this trail head the hike to the lower falls is approx 4.6 miles round trip.
Elevation gain is approx 1,310 ft
Hiking time is 4 to 5 hours
I consider this trail moderate to strenuous at times.
See you on the trail!

Homecoming Hike 2012 WSU
Weber State kicked off the start of Homecoming week with their annual hike up Mt. Ogden. Approximately 60 Weber State University (WSU) students, faculty, alumni and surrounding community participated in what was once known as the Fall Hike.
Campus Recreation oversaw the annual homecoming tradition, reinstated in 1986.
They in collaboration with other campus organizations and sponsors provided for, what participates say was, an enjoyable activity.
