FULL DAY NUWARA ELIYA (waterfall, tea museum & more) | Sri Lanka Travel
Wow! Today was jam packed. We hiked up from Nuwara Eliya town centre to Lovers Leap waterfall which was one of the MOST beautiful walks we’ve ever done. We then trekked back to town where we checked out Victoria Park, sampled some tea at the Tea Museum, picked up our laundry and had a delicious dinner!

Video includes drone shots of Ramboda Falls and nearby Puna Falls as well as directions on how to get there. We stayed close by at Jetwing St Andrews - video about our experiences there tomorrow! #tbcasia #srilanka #travelvlog

Lover's leap waterfall in Nuwara Eliya | ultimate srilanka 2019
Lovers Leap the waterfall is a fascinating trail through the Nuwera Eliya village life and with spectacular views of the surrounding area. To miss this slippery deadly waterfall would be a mistake, but be careful as you stand on top of it looking down that you don’t tumble into its evil clutches. The falls name interestingly came from two star struck lovers, who like Romeo and Juliet took their own lives for the sake of love. Hard to imagine two young lovers ending it all here in one last leap, a place where torrents of water smash down at hurtling speeds over a 30 metre craggy drop, passing a whole array of jagged rocks making the sound like a final drum-roll. The whole experience of watching it is hypnotic and one is left in awe how Mother Nature can create such a startling beautiful and yet a deadly spot that has mesmerised generations of travellers.

St. Clair's Falls is one of the widest waterfalls in Sri Lanka. It is called the Little Niagara of Sri Lanka and is one of the most politically discussed environmental entities in Sri Lanka.
It is situated 3 km west of the town of Talawakele on the Hatton-Talawakele Highway in Nuwara Eliya District.[1] The falls derived its name from a nearby tea estate. The Falls is 80m high and hence 20th highest waterfall in Sri Lanka. St. Clair's falls comprises two falls called Maha Ella (Sinhalese The Greater Fall) and Kuda Ella, (Sinhalese The Lesser Fall) which is 50m high and was created by a tributary of Kotmale Oya.

The main fall is located 3 km from Talawakele.

Unfortunately the recently commissioned Upper Kotmale Hydro power project has effected seven waterfalls out of which 5 are major tourist attractions in the country. These are:
Devon Falls
St Claire’s Falls
Puna Oya Ella Falls – ( 70% reduction in the water flow)
Ramboda Ella Falls – ( 50% reduction in the water flow)
Dunsinane Falls ( Pandalu Oya Falls)
St. Andrews Falls (50m) – expected to disappear altogether
St Claire’s Falls waterfall will be one of the most effected waterfalls and the Government has ordered relevant authorities that enough water will be released so that the St. Clair’s waterfall will maintain a continuous flow of 47,250 m3 (1,668,618 cu ft) of water for 10 hours and 30 minutes daily, between sunrise and sunset. But the water has dwindled to such an extent that it has lost all its glory now.
