Alto Wine Estate Stellenbosch South Africa - Africa Travel Channel
Situated high on the slopes of the Helderberg mountain, the history of Alto dates back to 1693. Key to the production of world-class reds the Latin name refers both to the aspirations of the estate and its altitude. Alto has been world renowned for its hand crafted, bold red wines since 1922 when the first shipment of Alto Rouge was received in London to a rapturous response. Schalk van der Westhuizen is the current winemaker, and is only the fourth winemaker in eight decades. Join us on the Helderberg Mountains for a taste of South Africa's award winning wines. Alto....South Africa's oldest red wine estate.
TRAVEL: Wine Safari at Waterford Estate
A wintery staycation is exactly what the doctor ordered. A blissfully summery day in Stellenbosch means you can take full advantage of fun outdoor activities.
In this episode (part 3) we ventured off to the breathtakingly gorgeous Waterford Estate for a Wine Drive Safari
Blaauwklippen Rd, Helderberg, Stellenbosch
Waterford Wine estate Waterford Estate has chosen to use only half of the total land for the planting of vines, in order to preserve and maintain the natural flora and fauna of the beautiful Blaauwklippen (blue stone) valley. As part of their biodiversity program, they wish to
show visitors their intentions in terms of sustainable agriculture, since they are aiming to achieve an organic approach to wine farming. The Cape is home to the largest and most spectacular concentration of flowers and plants found anywhere on earth. It is their intention
to play a small role in preserving the Cape Floral Kingdom by leaving sections of the property untouched, while showing guests some of the Cape’s natural beauty.
The Wine Drive Safari is a unique three hour trip on our safari vehicle, through the 120-hectare Estate on the beautiful slopes of the Helderberg mountain. This experience allows the chance to taste Waterford's award-winning Estate wines amongst the vineyards of their origin, and you will be expertly guided through all the aspects of what makes this area so biologically diverse and viticulturally unique. The wine tasting will be accompanied by various light snacks, which are well suited to pair with the individual wines. The experience will culminate with the Wine and Chocolate Tasting, back at the winery. Bookings required a week in advance.

Villiera wine farm ** SAFARI ** South Africa
Wildlife Sanctuary / Game Drive Safari
In conjunction with two neighbours (The Cape Garden Centre and Wild Clover Farm) Villiera set aside 220ha of land as a wildlife sanctuary in 2009.
It includes 12 dams plus marsh areas which attract a huge variety of bird-life. Indigenous trees are grown in old milk containers, plastic water bottles etc. by our staff and then bought from them when a year old and planted out. Thousands of indigenous trees have also been donated by the Cape Garden Centre.
