Modernized! Midnight ride on the Dover Elevator Waterfront Shops in Manteo North Carolina
(2/10/2017 with Elyse!) The most filmed elevator in Manteo NC.; on the Outer Banks, there are so many Dover and ThyssenKrupp elevators, some modded. On this one, only the COP was replaced. Unfortunately we could only access the garage aboard this elevator.

Yacht Haven Grande are the shops that are directly beside the cruise ship port. They are duty-free and there are many high-end stores such as Salvatore Ferragamo, Gucci, Louis Vuitton and many more. Although the prices here are duty-free, I didn't notice that significant of a discount from prices in the United States. We got a pair of sunglasses at Salvatore Ferragamo and that was all. The best duty-free jewelry shopping in my opinion is Charlotte Amalie, St. Thomas. It is a short and safe walk alongside the waterfront from the cruise ship port. There is even an extra-wide sidewalk! Loose diamonds, loose tanzanite and full pieces of jewelry and Swiss watches can be found heavily-discounted in Charlotte Amalie. Also worth mentioning is that loose diamonds are treated as a rock. In other words, someone could score a VERY NICE stone for an engagement ring, etc. and bring it back to their home country to have mounted. As long as the stone is not mounted, there is not duty to my knowledge. At the time of posting, the duty-free allowance from St. Thomas to the United States is $1600 per person and of course loose stones will likely not be counted against that! St. Thomas is one of the best places in the world to buy watches and jewelry and there are many people that fly down solely to shop.

“This was the main trade route between Charlotte and Asheville,” says Jim Proctor, former mayor of Lake Lure, NC. “And not only was this a trade route, it was very early on a tourist location. So, this was a place that travelers came to visit not just because it was a waystation, but because it was a great place to stay. And then around the turn of the last century, Lucius Morse came to visit, and he and his family are the folks that bought Chimney Rock Park at that time, and had the vision for Lake Lure. So in the mid-1920s, they ended up buying over 8,000 acres, and 720 acres ended up being what's now Lake Lure.”
“We bought the house as a vacation home. But then, we enjoyed it so much that we decided to move up here full-time,” says John Moore, Lake Lure resident.
“If you've traveled in European countries, and you've been on rivers and huge lakes in Geneva, Switzerland, you see these mountains rising up out of the water, and I think that that is what we have in Lake Lure,” says Paula Moore. “It's like a little piece of Europe right here in the United States, and we feel like we live on vacation, and that is one of the pluses.”
“Now, Lake Lure has just magnificent mountains, the rock cliffs, every kind of vegetation you can dream of, and of course, that's why a lot of folks come and why a lot of movies have been filmed here,” says Proctor. “Dirty Dancing was filmed right down the road, at what used to be Camp Chimney Rock. That was really fun. And then, of course, several years later, The Last of the Mohicans was filmed at Chimney Rock up the hill.”
“We love living around the lake, have a lot of friends who live here, spend time with them,” says Mr. Moore. “We can get to their houses by boat. We can get to the restaurants, to Larkin's and the restaurants downtown by boat, or the restaurants up at the resort.”
“There was an opportunity here in Lake Lure to live on the lake and run a restaurant that's also on the lake, that has its own boat docks, and we've been here, now, 15 years, and we still often commute to our restaurant by boat. Sometimes I even water ski to work,” says Mark Hammond, owner of Larkin’s Restaurant.
“Even when you consider, when I was growing up, there was probably 200 residents, and now there's 1,200, Lake Lure still doesn't have a signal light,” says Proctor. “We have one grocery store, one pharmacy. All the scenic beauty that was here when I was little is still here. It's remarkable that the mountain ranges are still just as scenic now as when I was growing up. The mountains that are literally surrounding this house, the vast majority of those mountains are now protected forever, and that's just real exciting for me.”

New Bern, NC from the Air - Beautiful Harbor Views! (EWN)
New Bern, NC is one of the most charming towns i've ever visited. I was blown away by the stately brick buildings and sense of preserved history. New Bern has a laid back and friendly feeling. It's not uncommon for complete strangers to say hello when they pass you on the street. The harbor is also stunning, and I was pleasantly surprised to see quite a few people living on thier boats! I look forward to returning to New Bern very soon!

New Bern (pronounced /ˈnjuːbərn/) is a city in Craven County, North Carolina with a population of 29,524 as of the 2010 census. It is located at the confluence of the Trent and the Neuse rivers. The city is 112 miles (180 km) east of Raleigh and 87 miles (140 km) northeast of Wilmington.
Formerly an Indian town named Chattoka, New Bern was settled in 1710 as a Swiss immigrant settlement, and the city is named after Bern, the capital of Switzerland. The Swiss connection (just as the Dutch in New Amsterdam, and German immigrants in Pennsylvania Dutch) with England was established by Marian exiles and marriages of the Royal House of Stuart, notable people in the history of Calvinism.
New Bern is the second oldest town in North Carolina. It served as the capital of the North Carolina colonial government and then briefly as the state capital. After the American Revolution, New Bern became wealthy and quickly developed a rich cultural life. In fact, at one time New Bern was called the Athens of the South.
Renowned in the South were the Masonic Temple and the Athens Theater, both still very active today.
New Bern is the county seat of Craven County and the principal city of the New Bern Micropolitan Statistical Area.
New Bern is the birthplace of the international drink, Pepsi Cola. It is also the setting of the Nicholas Sparks' book, The Notebook. A segment on NBC's The Today Show which aired March 16, 2005, mentioned that New Bern was one of the best places in the United States to retire which has been a haven for retirees from the northern states.
New Bern has four historic districts with homes, stores and churches dating back to the early eighteenth century. Within easy walking distance of the waterfront are more than 164 homes and buildings listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Also nearby are several bed and breakfast inns, hotels, restaurants, banks, antiques stores and specialty shops. The historic districts also are home to many of the town's 2,000 crape myrtles — New Bern's official flower — and glorious gardens.
At Union Point park, located downtown borders both the Neuse and Trent Rivers, the city's major celebration spot for events such as Neuse River Days and the Fourth of July. In 1979 local government gave Swiss Bear Downtown Revitalization Corp — a nonprofit corporation of civic leaders — the authority and responsibility to capitalize on the potential of the failing downtown area. Today, art galleries, specialty shops, antiques stores, restaurants and inns have resurrected downtown and the waterfront into a social hub. Improvements are continuously underway. Built and dedicated in 1995 through the efforts of Swiss Bear, James Reed Lane is a downtown mini-park and pedestrian walk-through on Pollock Street across from historic Christ Church. Private restoration efforts return many of the downtown buildings to their turn-of-the-twentieth-century elegance.

Knoxville Center, marketed as East Towne Mall; located in Knoxville, Tennessee, is a super-regional shopping mall serving the Knoxville metropolitan area. The mall opened in 1984,[1] and is located at Exit 8 on Interstate 640. The mall's primary target is the fastest growing area in the market.[2] In 1998, Sam’s Club opened its doors for the first time on the southeast corner in the mall’s outlot area. The mall was sold to Simon Property Group spin off Washington Prime Group(now under the name WP Glimcher) On May 29, 2008, Dillard's announced their plans to close due to declining sales. The store closed in September 2008. [3] in 2014. Retaining Simon Property Group as the manager of the mall. On February 18, 2016 it was announced that the mall had been placed up for sale once again.[4] The mall was sold in August 2016 to Knoxville Partners LLC.[5] As of August 2017, Knoxville Partners LLC has changed the name of the mall back to East Towne Mall. Signage at the mall remains unchanged, the mall is still marketed as Knoxville Center. JCPenney announced on March 17, 2017 that they would be closing as a plan to close 138 stores nationwide. The store closed on September 17, 2017. [6] The mall currently has 2 anchor stores open, Belk and Regal Cinemas. Sears announced on May 31, 2018 they would also be closing as part of a plan to close 72 stores nationwide. The store closed September 2, 2018.[7] As of October 2019, the mall has only 12 stores, a dentist's office, an event center and 2 restaurants. The largest of those stores, Belk, announced that they would be closing in mid-November, leaving the mall with no anchor department stores left. [8] On October 31, 2019, Knoxville Center Mall's owners announced that the entire mall would close and all tenants' leases would end on January 31, 2020. The Regal Cinema theatre location closed without any prior warning the same day as the mall's planned closure was announced.[9]

North Carolina: Biltmore Estate
Biltmore Estate is a historic house museum and tourist attraction in Asheville, North Carolina. Biltmore House, the main residence, is a Châteauesque-style mansion built for George Washington Vanderbilt II between 1889 and 1895 and is the largest privately owned house in the United States, at 178,926 square feet (16,622.8 m2) of floor space (135,280 square feet of living area). Still owned by George Vanderbilt's descendants, it remains one of the most prominent examples of Gilded Age mansions.
In the 1880s, at the height of the Gilded Age, George Washington Vanderbilt II began to make regular visits with his mother, Maria Louisa Kissam Vanderbilt, to the Asheville area. He loved the scenery and climate so much that he decided to build his own summer house in the area, which he called his little mountain escape. His older brothers and sisters had built luxurious summer houses in places such as Newport, Rhode Island, and Hyde Park, New York. Vanderbilt named his estate Biltmore, derived from De Bilt, Vanderbilt's ancestors' place of origin in the Netherlands, and More, Anglo-Saxon for open, rolling land. Vanderbilt bought almost 700 parcels of land, including over 50 farms and at least five cemeteries; a portion of the estate was once the community of Shiloh. A spokesperson for the estate said in 2017 that archives show much of the land was in very poor condition, and many of the farmers and other landowners were glad to sell.
Construction of the house began in 1889. George Vanderbilt opened his opulent estate on Christmas Eve of 1895.
In an attempt to bolster the estate's financial situation during the Great Depression, Cornelia and her husband opened Biltmore to the public in March 1930 at the request of the City of Asheville, which hoped the attraction would revitalize the area with tourism.
After the divorce of the Cecils in 1934, Cornelia left the estate never to return; however, John Cecil maintained his residence in the Bachelors' Wing until his death in 1954. Their eldest son, George Henry Vanderbilt Cecil, occupied rooms in the wing until 1956. At that point Biltmore House ceased to be a family residence and continued to be operated as a historic house museum.
The Biltmore Company is privately held. Of the 4,306.86 acres that make up Biltmore Estate.
Vanderbilt commissioned prominent New York architect Richard Morris Hunt, who had previously designed houses for various Vanderbilt family members, to design the house in the Châteauesque style. Hunt used French Renaissance chateaus as inspiration.
The Banquet Hall is the largest room in the house, measuring 42 feet wide and 72 feet long, with a 70-foot-high barrel-vaulted ceiling. The table could seat 64 guests surrounded by rare Flemish tapestries and a triple fireplace that spans one end of the hall. On the opposite end of the hall is an organ gallery that houses a 1916 Skinner pipe organ. Left unfinished with bare brick walls, the Music Room was not completed and opened to the public until 1976. It showcases a mantle designed by Hunt, and a large engraving by Albrecht Dürer called the Triumphal Arch commissioned by Holy Roman Emperor Maximilian I. The mantle had been stored in the stable for over 80 years.
The basement level featured activity rooms including an indoor 70,000-gallon (265,000-litre and 265-cubic meter) heated swimming pool with underwater lighting, a bowling alley, and a gymnasium with once state-of-the-art fitness equipment. The service hub of the house is also found in the largest basement in the US, as the location for the main kitchen, pastry kitchen, rotisserie kitchen, walk-in refrigerators that provided an early form of mechanical refrigeration, the servants' dining hall, laundry rooms and additional bedrooms for staff.

There was also a bowling green, an outdoor tea room, and a terrace to incorporate the European statuary that Vanderbilt had brought back from his travels. At the opposite end of the Esplanade is the Rampe Douce, a graduated stairway zigzagging along a rough-cut limestone wall that leads to the grassy slope known as the Vista, topped with a statue of Diana, the goddess of the hunt.
