Burlington to Niagara Falls - Rural Ontario Bike Tour - Day 1 of 9
This video summarizes day 1 of my 9 day solo bicycle trip through South-Western Ontario, Canada. All of the clips in the video were filmed on Saturday, May 19, 2018.
Starting in Downtown Toronto I rode to Union Station where I then caught a GO Train to Burlington. From there I joined the Waterfront Trail and followed in through Hamilton and Grimsby before heading south to pass through the Niagara Region's farmland. I then passed through Lincoln, Vineland, and Jordan, before reaching the City of St Catherines. I climbed up the Niagara Escarpment through the City of Thorold, and passed under the Welland Canal via the Thorold Tunnel which I really enjoyed! From there I followed country roads until I reach the Niagara Falls KOA on Lundys Lane which was my campground for the night.
Strava for Day 1:
The bike I used for this trip is a New York made Linear Recumbent Bike which I believe is from around 2004. I carried my gear in 2 Giant Waterproof Panniers, and mounted my tent and sleeping pad on the top of the rack.

I turned left and headed Southwest when I got to Mississaga St and passed through Orillia's historic downtown. I turned left onto West Street and then continued west on Coldwater st. After a quick stop at the bank and the grocery store I passed over highway 11 and continued west along Highway 12 until I got to Fairground Rd. Eventually this road merges with Upper Big Chute Rd where it crosses over the Black River. I followed the road all the way to the community of Honey Harbour which is an access point to Georgian Bay Islands National Park. I took a water taxi with my bike over to the Cedar Spring Campground on Beausoleil Island. After purchasing a camping permit, I dropped off most of my gear and then went to explore the island. I rode the Huron Trail north to Lighthouse Point, then hiked a loop of the Rockview, Portage and Massassaga trails. I returned to Cedar Spring just in time to join the Medicine Walk provided by the park. Afterwards I went for a quick swim, cooked some dinner on the barbeque and got ready for bed.

TIP - Thousand Islands Parkway - ON
The Thousand Islands Parkway or TIP is a parkway in the Canadian province of Ontario, which extends easterly from an interchange with Highway 401 in Gananoque for approximately 40 kilometres (25 mi) to the community of Butternut Bay, in Elizabethtown-Kitley, west of Brockville.
Evidence of its former use can be seen today in the wide right-of-way; the unused westbound lanes now serve as a bicycle trail and twin bridges span two locations along the parkway.

Langmaids Island for Sale - Muskoka Canada
Langmaids Island is a 128 acre property of distinction located near the south end of Lake of Bays in Muskoka, just a two hour drive north of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. The property has never before been offered for sale in the open market and the package includes smaller Pancake Island and a mainland property for access. This once-in-a-lifetime opportunity is now being offered for sale exclusively through Chestnut Park Real Estate Limited for $14,950,000 CDN.
PROPERTY:
AND UNIQUE FEATURES
The largest remaining privately owned undeveloped island in Muskoka.
128 acres
2 natural sandy beaches with southern exposure
5 kilometres of shoreline
granite jumping rocks
The sheer size, beauty and privacy offered by Langmaid's Island is breathtaking. Langmaid's is an island property on Lake of Bays in the District of Muskoka, Ontario that has been owned by the same family since the late 1800's. This island has been cared for and preserved in its natural state with honour and respect for the stewardship of the land. With 128 acres and almost 5 kilometres of shoreline this property is unlike any other that has recently been offered for sale and will surely be the last of its kind.
Langmaid's Island is located off the mainland just north of the town of Baysville in Lake of Bays. Three large hills reach to an elevation of 50 metre above the water and give an unparalleled opportunity for 360 degree views around the lake. A forest
of hemlock and cedar trees populate the undeveloped rocky shoreline and a small marshland occupies a small protected bay along the northern shore at the narrowest point of the island. But perhaps the most spectacular feature of Langmaid's Island is the two natural sandy beaches that stretch along the southern shoreline. These beaches are a rare feature in a cottage country property in Muskoka. A smooth shelving of pink granite rock highlights the southern edge with large jumping rocks adding to the mix.
A small, rocky, picturesque island called Pancake or Seagull Island is offered as well as part of the package being offered for sale. Pancake Island gives the owners of Langmaid's an opportunity to enjoy private picnics and have a charming destination for afternoon paddles.
Getting to Langmaid's Island from the mainland will be easy because of the land available at 3933 South Portage Road. This vacant .54 acre plot of land has 200 feet of lake frontage and will be the perfect spot for a private access point to the island.
The entire package offered for sale consists of Langmaid's Island, Pancake Island and the mainland lot.
