Walks in England: Exploring Ely in Cambridgeshire
Today, my guides Simon and Sharon Brown take me to the fabulous city of Ely in Cambridgeshire. We are here to explore what is sometime described as the Ship of the Fens, the amazing Ely Cathedral.
The cathedral has its origins in AD 672 when St Etheldreda built an abbey church. The present building dates back to 1083, and cathedral status was granted it in 1109.

Ely Cathedral is one of the great medieval churches of England, and rising up above the flat fens, it's also one of the easiest to spot.

All occupants of the cathedral were safely under our control.
Flying indoors presents more of a challenge as we have no GPS signal for position so must rely on pilot ability.

Ely - A beautiful City
Messing about with some old video clips I had taken and thought I would make them into a movie showing some of the highlights of Ely, Cambridgeshire. This includes Oliver Cromwell's House, St Mary's Church, Ely Park, Ely Porta, Ely Riverside and, of course, Ely Cathedral!

Secrets Of Ely Cathedral (Country Tracks BBC)
Michael White introduces some of the lesser-known features of Ely Cathedral, including the Prior's Door and the carvings, stained glass and acoustics of the Lady Chapel. Taken from BBC Country Tracks (Cambridgeshire Episode), first transmitted Sunday 27 November 2011. Michael's book A Promise of Beauty: The Octagon Tower and Lantern at Ely Cathedral details the history and meaning of the unique octagonal central tower of Ely Cathedral, and is available from bookshops. It can also be ordered online from or by visiting amazon.co.uk
Wicken Fen, near Ely
This Cambrigeshire fenland has been restored and is now maintained as a nature conservancy giving shelter to over 8000 species of plants, birds and insects, notably, dragonflies (pictured at the start of the video is a four-spotted chaser, or as I would call it, Libellula Quadrimaculata). You can do a short or long walk round and for a bit of peace and quiet, it's great!

Chippenham Park Wedding Videos Cambridgeshire Adam and Eunice
We took a trip down the road to Cambridgeshire for the wedding of Eunice and Adam. The morning was nice and relaxed as both Adam and Eunice prepared for the day in nearby hotels. This is a beautiful part of the world and we were blown away by the natural beauty on offer as we arrived at Chippenham Park for the wedding. We were able to enjoy an outdoor ceremony by the lake as the weather was perfect, and the view was incredible as Eunice and her father made their way across the lawn to meet Adam.
The rest of the evening would typically be in the Marquee but as the weather was so good, family and friends spilled out onto the lawn to enjoy the evening, wish marshmallows cooked over fire pits.
What a wonderful wedding to be a part of. Thank you to Eunice and Adam and all the wedding planners at chippenham park

On the edge of the lake our waterside wedding venue is our most romantic ceremony spot. Walk down the aisle surrounded by trees and flowers. Then say your vows in the pretty Summer House, complete with climbing roses. And if the sky refuses to be your something blue? The Old Ballroom is all yours. Seats up to 120 wedding guests.
Newly decorated and furnished with antique paintings, the Old Ballroom is an aisle with style. Walk in to the tinkle of the grand piano and exchange vows in front of the floor-to-ceiling windows. Then stroll straight onto the lawn through the French doors. Seats up to 85, or 120 wedding guests when combined with the Tharp Hall.
