Doi Tung or Mae Fa Luang is a mountain in the Thai highlands of Chiang Rai Province, Thailand. One of our favorite flowers and plants grow among rock formations. 1389m mountain with a Buddhist temple, a tribal culture museum in a royal villa & botanical gardens.

Doi Tung (ดอยตุง) is a mountain in the Thai highlands of Chiang Rai Province, Thailand.
Doi Tung Royal Villa
The Doi Tung royal villa, former residence of the princess mother Srinagarindra is also high up on the hill.
Thanks to the princess mother's interest and encouragement, the hills were reforested.She was also instrumental in fighting against the opium trade, as a result the local hilltribes stopped growing poppies and began to grow other crops.
The royal villa was originally built as a summer residence for the princess mother and now houses a museum and displaying her work to improve the life quality of local tribal people.
The Mae Fah Luang Gardens are a botanical park on the slopes below the royal villa. Flowers and plants grow among rock formations.
The royal residence of HRH the late Princess Mother formerly served as her base of operations to monitor the work progress at the Doi Tung Development Project. It has since been transformed into a symbol of the Princess Mother's commitment to improving the local people's quality of life.

Trip to the beautiful Mae Fah Luang Garden (สวนแม่ฟ้าหลวง) on Doi Tung (ดอยตุง) mountain in Chiang Rai Province (เชียงราย), northern Thailand (ประเทศไทย) on Saturday, April 26, 2014.
The nearly 10-acre landscaped garden is located about an hour’s drive north of Chiang Rai City.
Other attractions in the area:
1. Doi Tung Royal Villa (พระตำหนักดอยตุง) is located on km 12 on Hwy 1149, to the west of Hwy 1. It was the former residence of 'Princess Mother' Somdej Phra Srinagarindra (ศรีนครินทรา), the mother of former Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej/ภูมิพลอดุลยเดช). The magnificent villa was built on the mountain overlooking the surrounding hills and valleys in a unique mix of Swiss and Lanna architectural styles.

3. Wat Phra That Doi Tung (วัดพระธาตุดอยตุง) is located atop Doi Tung mountain. Dating to the 10th century (built from around 911 AD), this temple has a stupa believed to contain Buddha's collarbone, making it a major pilgrimage site. Wat Jong Klang temple in Mae Hong Son was built nearly 200 years ago by Thai Yai (Shan) people, who make up about half of the population of Mae Hong Son Province.
Is one of Thailand’s most famous pilgrimage sites. The temple lies at an elevation of 3,520 feet (1,073 m) on the slopes of Mount Suthep, one of Thailand’s highest peaks (5,528 feet [1,685 m]), just outside the city. The Doi Pui National Park occupies 40,000 acres (16,000 hectares) around the mountain. King Kue-Na built the monastery of the complex.
Mae Hong Son town is capital of Mae Hong Son Province. It is in the Shan Hills, near the border with Burma along the banks of the River Pai.

據說皇太后生前樂做善事，生性節儉，深受人民愛戴，1994年往生後，
1997年開放參觀，可以看的出來皇太后極喜歡花，跟生性簡樸的一面。
皇太后行宮(Doi Tung Royal Villa) 在1988年建成，目的是讓當時長年旅居瑞士的皇太后在泰國也有一個適合她居住的地方，而這位皇太后就是現今泰王的母親。皇太后為人樂善好施，非常關心泰國人民，特別對於泰北地區發展不遺餘力，令清萊這個毒品集散地改頭換面，搖身一變成為農業地區，為少數民族提供工作機會並改善生活質素，促進當地人民的收入，因此皇太后深受泰國人民敬重。

2018年6月末到7月初在泰國清萊府「睡美人洞」（泰語：ถ้ำหลวง，英語：Tham Luang，或譯「探鑾」）的洞窟救援行動。起因是該年6月23日，清萊府的少年足球隊「野豬隊」（Moo Pa）12名少年和教練，因睡美人洞遭暴雨灌入而受困洞內。為尋找失蹤的13人，在兩週的時間裡，來自世界各地的數百名志願者投入救援，其中不乏軍警人員、潛水專家、醫療人員、工程公司、救難團隊等，來到救援工作中協助或提供援助。除了泰國政府傾力投入，同緬甸、寮國派出大量搜救人員前往救援，還有美國（含軍方）、英國、澳洲、加拿大、歐盟諸國、俄羅斯、以色列、中國、日本、印度及東協諸國等，共二十多國的團隊並肩合作，及非政府組織的公益團體，都有派人到現場協助救援。7月10日，受困第18天，全員救出。
7月6日，受困第14天，前泰國海軍精英海豹部隊成員薩瑪恩（Samarn Poonan）殉職，他在布置潛水逃生路線時，因氧氣不足溺斃洞內。
英籍洞穴救援人員史丹頓（Richard Stanton）和沃蘭登（John Volanthen），兩人分別是56歲和47歲，隸屬「南部與中部威爾斯洞穴搜救小隊」。他們聯同第三名英方專家哈珀（Robert Harper），代表「英國洞穴救援協會」來到清萊投入救援任務。
2018年7月24日，在清萊美塞縣的「巨蠍寺」（Wat Phra That Doi Wao），11名少年和教練舉辦公開剃度儀式，剃掉頭髮和眉毛。因短期出家是泰國傳統習俗，他們希望能在短期出家期間，為歷劫歸來之重生祈福，並報答救援的恩情，全員預計於8月4日出關。惟有一少年因為是基督徒，未一同出家。

เที่ยวกันเถอะ Doi Inthanon
Doi Inthanon (Thai: ดอยอินทนนท์ (Pronunciation)) is the highest mountain in Thailand. It is located in Mae Chaem District, Chiang Mai Province. This mountain is an ultra prominent peak and was also known in the past as Doi Luang (meaning big mountain) or Doi Ang Ka, meaning the crow's pond top. Near the mountain's base was a pond where many crows gathered. The name Doi Inthanon was given in honour of the king Inthawichayanon, one of the last kings of Chiang Mai, who was concerned about the forests in the north and tried to preserve them. He ordered that after his death his remains shall be placed at Doi Luang, which was then renamed.
Today, the summit of Doi Inthanon is a popular tourist destination for both foreign and Thai tourists, with a peak of 12,000+ visitors visiting the summit on New Year's Day. In addition to a range of tourist facilities on the summit, there is also a Royal Thai Air Force weather radar antenna on the summit.

There was more to see than I first thought which was a good surprise.
So I walk around the various glass houses,gift shops , museum and other areas.
I spend a few hours here enjoying this and the good weather.
