From mid-June through mid-September, Watauga Lake is warm, refreshing and ready for your water activities. No waves, no salt, no chlorine – just fresh mountain water.
Your own private “resort” describes the Watauga Lake Cottage Rental On Watauga Lake: fish, swim, boat right from your backyard. Then take a hike on a nearby section of the Appalachian Trail, or rent a bike and coast down the famous Virginia Creeper Trail in nearby Damascus, VA. Visit the Butler Tennessee Museum to learn the story of “The town that wouldn’t drown”. If you are here during Old Butler Days the second weekend in August, enjoy small town music, games, food, vendors and even a “train ride” (for the kiddies).
The Watauga Lake Cottage Rental was built by the owner, Vikki Woods. The Cottage Rental is meant to be her retirement cottage once she decides to retire from innkeeping at the Iron Mountain Inn B&B also in Butler TN. So guests will find little touches not normally found in other cottage rentals, such as, a dumb waiter to take luggage and laundry upstairs; fully equipped kitchen a gourmet chef will enjoy; a two person jetted tub and a steam shower; a handicapped bedroom and bath on the first floor; and an open floor plan so everyone visiting can participate in the fun.
The Watauga Lake Cottage Rental will sleep 6 people comfortably in 3 bedrooms each with ensuite bath. There is an alcove at the end of the upstairs hall with a Queen bed which will use the first floor bathroom. Please no more than 8 guests.

Pulling onto a dry, half dirt, half gravel road, we came to the parking location. Exiting the vehicles, we prepped for the hike. Knowing this would be one of the more difficult hikes we would be taking on, the group hydrated and double checked each other’s gear bags. These hikes are dangerous as is, when you add the camera gear we haul, they can become even more sketchy. It’s important to have a great team of people working together that you can trust in these situations. Communication both vocally and visually can save a life.

History
Established in 1998.
Created at the edge of the Cherokee National Forest, the Iron Mountain Inn B&B was designed and built by the Innkeeper, Vikki Woods, to be a respite from the real world for guests wanting comfortable luxury while they explored the beauties of the Watauga Lake district, the Appalachian Trail and other of Johnson County's charms.
Although running a bed and breakfast was not a lifelong dream of Vikki, she knew she wanted to live in a beautiful mountain area, and since she comes from a long line of women who took in boarders and/or rented their homes, she felt that running a B&B was the perfect life for her. And so it has proved.
After over 13 years (in 2010) Vikki still enjoys providing Pampering Perfected service and friendship to those wonderful people who arrive as strangers and leave as friends. This is the job she had been looking for all her life.
