Waverley Abbey, the first Cistercian Abbey built in Britain
Waverley Abbey near Farnham in Surrey was the first Cistercian Abbey built in the British isles. This video shows the remaining parts of the Abbey as well as tell the story of when Waverley dowsers spent some time dowsing the site and provides the conclusions of this investigation.
This is an historic site which still contains wild herbs from the days of when the abbey was functioning alongside fairy rings demonstrating the purity of the environment and is a lovely place for a picnic.
This investigation found that there were two small ancient stone circles on this site a long time before the Cistercian Abbey was built. We found the main Altar (just to the left of the ancient Yew Tree, with the blue flags) which was mapped out and the raised platform was dowsed and marked out by Don Bryan from the Archaeology dowsing group.
An article providing further information about this Waverley Abbey and the dowsing conclusions with diagrams can be found by following this link:

Today I am at the ruins of Waverley Abbey in Surrey with film maker Marq English. A paranormal investigator and maker of travelogues himself, Marq was keen to show me some of the sights of this heritage rich county, including these fine ruins.
Waverley Abbey was the first Cistercian abbey in England. It was founded in 1128 by William Giffard, Bishop of Winchester. Located in Farnham, Surrey, about 2 miles southeast of the town centre, the abbey is situated on a floodplain, surrounded by current and previous channels of the River Wey. It was damaged on more than one occasion by severe flooding, resulting in rebuilding in the 13th century. Despite being the first Cistercian abbey in England, and being motherhouse to several other abbeys, Waverley was slenderly endowed and its monks are recorded as having endured poverty and famine.

First monastery in Britain, 12th Century Waverley Abbey
Waverley Abbey in Surrey was the very first monastery founded in Britain by the reforming Cistercian religious order. A small group of monks from France settled in this quiet spot by the River Wey in 1128, and Waverley soon became the springboard for Cistercian settlement in southern England. The impressive remains include the fine 13th century vaulted refectory or dining hall for the lay brothers, the Cistercians' labour force.

A little breezy in places today but lovely skies on a crisp, post snow melt day.
Usual issues with formatting in iMovie but lots of nice shots means much tighter editing giving this a bit more energy than previous uploads.
Enjoy!
Waverley Abbey
Waverley Abbey was the first Cistercian abbey in England. It was founded in 1128 by William Giffard, Bishop of Winchester. Located in Farnham, Surrey, about 2 miles (3.2 km) southeast of the town centre, the abbey is situated on a floodplain, surrounded by current and previous channels of the River Wey. It was damaged on more than one occasion by severe flooding, resulting in rebuilding in the 13th century. Despite being the first Cistercian abbey in England, and being motherhouse to several other abbeys, Waverley was slenderly endowed and its monks are recorded as having endured poverty and famine.
The abbey was closed in 1536 as part of King Henry VIII's Dissolution of the Monasteries. Subsequently largely demolished, its stone was reused in local buildings, including Waverley Abbey House, which was built in 1723 in the northern portion of the former abbey precinct.
Waverley Abbey House, the ruins of the abbey and the surrounding land are all part of a conservation area. The house is a Grade II* Listed building and the ruins a Scheduled Ancient Monument.
The ruins of the abbey are currently managed by English Heritage and open to the public.
Please Note:- There have been recent acts of vandalism on this preserved historical site. Visiting public to help protect this abbey for future generations to see, phone the police if you see any vandalism being committed.

Waverley Abbey
Hooray etc ! It's my first video where I'm not massively embarassed by the piloting. Was making a bit more of an effort to try cinematic stylee moves.
Had a great time today at Waverley, and no crash action despite taking more risks than usual. Even flew down the river for a bit, but didn't have time to get it in this vid. GPS assistance disappeared whenever I went into the ruin buildings, so that was all additional fun.
Nice panorama at the end; you can never have enough of those.
Next up, a convent among other things.
