Way of the Roses August 2017 - UK Cycle Touring
Continuing our theme of riding around the UK we decided with little annual leave left to complete a short coast to coast from Morecambe to Bridlington.
After catching a train from Manchester to Lancaster on a wet Friday night we headed out first thing Saturday morning.
The first day of the ride was tough, not just because of the mixed weather but also the steep climbs of the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.
The second day was a welcome relief with flatter open roads and wonderful sunshine.
We finished the ride by heading down to Hull to get the train back to Manchester.
This is a fun ride and a great way to see some of the best scenery the UK has to offer.
We used a hybrid bike and a steel cross bike with big tyres to complete the ride. Most of the surfaces are pretty good but there are a few very short off road sections, so those using a road bike should take that into consideration.
We also took way too much stuff which made it much harder hauling so much weight up the steep hills. Pack light travel far.

My Complete Video Footage Of The Way Of The Roses Cycle Trail
I am pleased to say that this is my complete video footage of me cycling all sections of The Way Of The Roses Cycle route during the Spring and Summer of 2017 in various stages. It is a very popular Northern England Sustrans route developed for the National Cycle Network in 2011 That stretches 170 miles from the East Yorkshire seaside resort of Bridlington to Morecambe in Lancashire. My route is also extended about 20 miles along Morecambe Bay to the lovely coastal village of Arnside in Cumbria which is on part of a new National route called The Bay Cycle Way. I wish you all the pleasure of watching some of my stunning cycling through The Yorkshire Wolds and Dales taking in some of Yorkshire's most scenic villages. More pictures of my rides around these areas of Yorkshire and Lancashire can be found at my following webpages and more on the Yorkshire Dales section can be found at

Way of the Roses | Coast to Coast by Bike | Day 3: York to Bridlington
The final days ride was to be 65 miles from York to the east coast town of Bridlington which we anticipated would be an easier ride with very few hills.
...
The route took us down on to the promenade as our hysteria reached a peak and we stretched our necks like Meer Cats looking for the finish line and my awaiting family. Finally, we saw them and rode right up to the official “Way of the Roses” sign post for a photo opportunity and a chance to congratulate each other. We were duly informed that we stank and would have to ride home in the back of the car.
We performed the ritualistic dipping of our wheels in the sea just like we had 3 days ago on the other side of the country. Then we headed into town for some well-deserved fish and chips and endless chatter about the adventure before embarking on the long drive home. We had seen every possible type of English countryside, met many friendly people, lost and found a wallet, had a surprise encounter with a friend, drank far too much beer and spent come great quality time together. I learned that it can be enjoyable to chat with complete strangers, that I am capable of long distance cycling 3 days in a row even with a hangover, and that there are surprisingly few cafes in the English countryside.

EUIV Rights of England 2 [War of the Roses]
I've left EUIV alone for about six months because I had a few crashes with 1.17 and Stellaris and HoI IV came out, but with the Prussia/Rights of Man DLC and patch released, it's time to circle back to this time period. As always with new DLC, I'm playing as England for the first campaign, so let's see how all the changes and new features will shake out on the Isles...
Since we're mighty England, we're going to try for the whole range of new general achievements, which are (in no particular order):
• Fanatic Collectivist - Own all Institution Origin provinces
• All That's Thine Shall Be Mine - As a Greedy ruler, take all of a nation's ducats in a peace deal
• We bled for this - Win a war with at least one million dead on both sides
• Queen of Conquest - Conquer land while in a Queen Regency
• Gentle Persuasion - Have a Siege Specialist general win a siege in a province with a fort
• Combined Arms - Have both an Admiral and a General with a trait
• AAA Credit - As a Great Power, take on over 1,000 ducats of another nation's debt

Cycle England - Yorkshire Wolds
The Yorkshire Wolds is a broad crescent of rolling chalk hills and valleys, south of the North York Moors, arcing from the coast at Flamborough westwards towards Malton and then south to the Humber Bridge. Known as the 'king of the wolds', both Driffield and the ancient market town of Beverley lie on lower ground within the arms of the crescent. The magnificent, unspoiled scenery, beautiful market towns, outstanding country houses and sweeping coastline ensure that many visitors return year after year.
