Weardale Outdoor - Visit County Durham
This week Supreme Adventure Sports have been providing Archery and other activities with their partners at Weardale Outdoor as part of Durhams Outdoor and Active Week.
Archery is fun for the family and is only one of the activities Supreme offer throughout the County including 4x4 Driving, Abseiling, Quad Treks, Clay Target Shooting and Team Building and for larger groups Paintball.
As the video shows it is good fun and there is something for just about everyone although some age and capability restrictions may apply.
Gorge Walk: YMCA Weardale House
Enjoy this video our trip to Hell Gill (to Hell and Back) in August 2013. It's a magical journey into a limestone gorge which is littered with the most incredible fossils. The only soundtrack is that of the children splashing, screaming, enjoying themselves and complaining of freezing boxer shorts!!!
YMCA Weardale House (weardalehouse.co.uk) is a charity who's purpose is to provide access to adventurous activities and outdoor education at a price that is affordable to all. By sharing this video on social media with people who will enjoy it, you can help us to keep our marketing costs down.
So if you like it, please share it: something that will take you just 30 secs could make all the difference to us. Thank you!

Naughty Farmer on the Weardale Way (Section 4)
11th February
This part 2 of our 12 mile hike covering sections 3 and 4 of the Weardale Way. In this video we cover section 4 from Rookhope to Stanhope.
I spent a bit more time exploring the old buildings at the mine site but nowhere near enough time to reveal all of their secrets. Definitely a site to go back to.
At Eastgate I forgot to mention the significance of Stanhope Park... but I will pick up on that at Stanhope and include a shout out to a Youtuber who will be able to give more information for those interested in Border history. So look out for that one on the next Weardale Way video.
For those who were concerned about us trespassing on the railway... The Weardale Railway heads in the opposite direction from Stanhope and currently does not use these tracks. The tracks were used by Eastgate cement works until 17th March 1993 and have not been used since... although I believe there are hopes that the Weardale Railway will one day reopen to Eastgate. We would've kept to the sheep fields but were faced with a stone wall without a visible means of crossing it.
From the UK Government Health and Safety Executive (HSE):
Bulls of recognised dairy breeds (eg Ayrshire, Friesian, Holstein, Dairy Shorthorn, Guernsey, Jersey and Kerry) are in all circumstances banned from being at large in fields crossed by public rights of way. Do not keep them in fields with public rights of way, statutory or other types of permitted access.
The water crossing the stepping stones doesn't look so deep on my camera but trust me that it would've been over my boots. Between 15-30cm (6-12) deep depending on the stone. We will see if we can get away with starting our journey next time on the stones.

Spennymoor Flashback 2010 -1991 County Durham
Including 'flashbacks' to Bella Dents, Gordon Marshall butcher & the Outdoor Market just a small selection from many videos, which I recorded in 1991.
The fashions may have changed but one thing that stands out to me is just how busy both the market & shopping precinct were back in 1991.
Then the pessimists were already saying, that the market & town centre were finished, can any decline be reversed?
The USA leads the way & the UK now follows, in the States Market Street is now empty but shopping malls flourish, let's hope that the same isn't true for the U.K because whatever happens we can't go back.
'The Players Navy Cut' in part of the video was an original advertising poster that had been posted onto the ceiling of Bella Dents in the early 20th Century. The shop was an off license in King Street Spennymoor. The poster was approx. 8ft x 5ft & had a gas light suspended from the ceiling at the centre of it, Bella Dents ceased trading in circa 1994-95.
I believe that Bella Dent died in the late 1970's; I can remember her standing outside of the shop or sweeping up but never serving me. She I suppose represented the last the of the Edwardian era in Spennymoor & this also included her dress It was very unusual in the 1970's to witness Bella wearing clothing from a bygone era.
I visited the shop many times in my life & eventually purchasing some of the drawers from the shop when it was being converted into the Royal Balti.
Legend has it that the original poster is still beneath the suspended ceiling of the Indian restaurant that it later became.
There was also 'Mucky Bella', as a child in the early 1970's I would play along the former railway cutting at the rear of Kenmir's factory / Rosa School.
The cutting was then being used as the local dump. We had loads of great fun making camps & lighting fires but we always scattered to a safe distance whenever we saw Bella walking along the line towards us, wearing a plastic carrier bag on either foot, poverty was still rife in Spennymoor even in the early 1970's.
