Named after a British explorer, Weddell Island is located towards the southwest of the archipelago. It is the largest offshore island and has widely varying terrain from open plains to rocky hills, white sand beaches to sheltered coves. The highest peak is Weddell Mountain at 383m (1,256 feet).

Weddell Island is the third largest of the Falkland Islands.Weddell Island is located to the west of West Falkland and is 265.8 square kilometres in area.The length of the coastline is 175.7 km .Until the late 19th century, it was known as Swan Island, a name which is not to be confused with the Swan Islands on the other side of West Falkland.

Saunders Island is the fourth largest of the Falkland Islands, lying north west of West Falkland. The island is run as a sheep farm. The island has an area of 131.6 km² and a coastline of 106.8 km.

The islands in the south Atlantic are a point of dispute between Argentina and the United Kingdom. The southernmost marathon in the world is an annual event there since 2005.
But whether they are called Malvinas or the Falklands, the event brings runners from all over the world together to endure the challenge.

North Arm is a settlement in Lafonia, the southern part of East Falkland, in the Falkland Islands, It is on the south coast, on the shore of the Bay of Harbours, and overlooks Sea Lion Island in the distance.In 2007, the population was 25 people, six of them children.It is the largest settlement on East Falkland south of Goose Green.North Arm is 90 miles from Stanley, and it takes four and a half hours to drive there.
