Destination WA - Wedge Island
Far out in Western Australia lies a beach that is truly unique. It has all the typical beachside attractions – great surf, fishing, kite-surfing, swimming, sand boarding. But what makes it really different are the iconic beach shacks.
Wedge Island Western Australia over nighter. Fishing/Camping
Got invited on a weekend over nighter at Wedge island, a small settlement on shacks juts north of Pert Western Australia.
This is just a short clip of the trip out and a bit of fishing and a look around the spot.
Its great than in western Australia you can still drive a short way out of the city, on to the beach, and be by yourself.. and best thing there is no payment, permits etc (dont worry, that will come no doubt)

Surfing Wedge Island in Western Australia
While the east coast of Australia might be the first place to come to mind when thinking about surfing in the land down under, there is a magic place called The Wedge in Western Australia, where the bleached white fine sand, isolated dunes and peacefulness will take your breath away. And the warm aqua blue surf with its consistent sets will leave a smile on your face! Read more about it in this post:

Wedge Island, Western Australia: escape to the Turquoise Coast
Wedge Island is a shack settlement nestled in the dunes about 150kms north of Perth, and slightly south of Cervantes, WA. While there is an actual island that goes by this name, the term ‘Wedge’ is used to describe the surrounding area of huge sand dunes and miles of relatively empty beaches. The area used to be only accessible by 4WD via a rough track that wound through the dunes, whereas now the new bitumen Indian Ocean Drive passes very close and a spur road connects to the settlement. Whether this development is a good or bad thing depends on your perspective. It’s quite possible and indeed likely to be able to have a huge portion of beach to yourself, whether for surfing, kitesurfing, swimming, fishing or snorkeling. Dolphins and seals can be spotted in the clear waters. Although dirt bikes and unlicenced offroad vehicles have been banned due to regular fatalities, it’s still possible to get in some ‘hooning’ if you use your imagination…

Warroora Station on Ningaloo Reef, WA - camping in paradise!
???????? WARROORA STATION, WESTERN AUSTRALIA ????????
We spent two and a half weeks at Warroora Station (pronounced Warra), situated on the Ningaloo Reef. It was awesome! ???? We had 11 nights at 14 Mile Beach, followed by 6 nights at Steven's Camp.
????A week on a beachfront campsite here will only set you back $50 per adult???? Or if you are here for a shorter stay, it's $10 pp/pn.
ℹHere is some info on the station, for those who want to know more:
???????? There are no toilet facilities. You must bring your own chemical toilet or you can hire one at the Homestead or 14 Mile Campsite for $10 per day/$50 per week. There is a dump point at the rubbish tip about 5 mins drive from 14 Mile. There is also one down the Southern end of the station.
???? The rubbish tip is well organised and also collects cans for RFDS
???? Bring in all of your own wood for fires or purchase some from the caretakers/homestead. Campfires allowed May through October.
✅???? Pet friendly, but there is 1080 on the property
✖ There is no drinking/bore water available at 14 Mile so you must bring in everything that you need. There is limited potable water and artesian water showers available for a small fee at the Homestead. They also sell cold drinks and ice creams ????????
???? Coral Bay is only a 20 minute drive away (from 14 Mile). Although expensive, there is lots available there to stock up on - fuel, groceries, bakery, cafes etc. We suggest stocking up before heading to the area.
???? At this time of the year it's pretty windy! Some days have been good, others have been crazy windy. There is camping available behind the dunes, which is a little more protected. We ended up moving from 14 Mile to Steven's to escape the wind a bit!
???? There are multiple beaches to explore along the station, with crystal clear water and snorkelling at most spots.
???????? The boys caught plenty of fish straight in front of the camps at 14 Mile and Steven's ???? Threadfin salmon, tailor, golden trevally and dart. There were also heaps of sharks sneaking around eating their bait.
Overall, it was an awesome stay at Warroora. If you can't already tell by the multiple pictures we've posted, we LOVED it ???? Make sure that you don't just stay at 14 Mile and go explore the rest of the station, even if only on a day trip - so many hidden treasures waiting to be discovered!

Wedge Island Western Australia
A collection of photographs taken on camping trips to Wedge Island, WA over several years. Well before the bitumen road went through from Lancelin, the trip involved a rufty tufty 4x4 drive along bush tracks through the dunes & scrub, leading to the shack settlement at Wedge itself. Including photos from Nambung NP and the Pinnacles Desert.
For Pete, Alfie & Eia, Clive, Damo, Sally, Arch & Joe and anyone else who's ever had the pleasure of spending some time in this top spot.

Preston Beach | Overnight Trip From Perth
In this episode, we see the arrival of our mate Harrison (Harry) and his new Land Rover Discovery 2012. We take Harry on a short overnighter trip close to Perth!
During this episode we put Harry's Disco to the test and show you some of the cool things that are close to Perth for those who want to get away for a short trip on the weekend. Preston Beach has plenty to offer with it's easy beach driving, it also has some challenging dune climbs for the more adventurous sorts out there :)
We drive down from Perth which takes 1 hour and 30 minutes (127km), we travel along the beach but have to make camp sheltered behind a dune system due to the 40kmph winds (sadly no fishing). Once we pack up and leave camp the morning after camp, we drive the beach down to Myalup.
This trip is definitely a great trip for those who wish to make a quick and easy getaway for the weekend....we will be back!!
If you have any questions about the trip, send us a message!
