SUMBA WEEKURI LAKE - REAL ESTATE - 01ISLANDS
Interested in Sumba real estate? Find out more about our lands for sale:
Weekuri Lake (sometimes referred to as Waikuri lake) is an incredible salted water lake located near Mandorak, west Sumba.
Water is constantly flowing in and out of the lake with waves coming from the ocean through some holes underneath the rocks that separate the lake from the ocean. Because of that, there is no stagnating water in the lake.
The shallow part of the lake is sandy but sea life is quite abundant in the deepest part (2 to 3 meters) where some corals (SPS and LPS), crutaceans and fish can be found. The ecosystem is however very fragile and tourists are asked to be extremely cautious not to litter or walk on corals.
At 01islands, we go there for a quick swim as much as we can to check on the place and some land we own on the north shore
We endeavour to set up a preservation program together with the Bupati in order to keep this natural wonder intact.

Sumba on wikipedia:
Sumba (Indonesian: Pulau Sumba) is an island in eastern Indonesia, is one of the Lesser Sunda Islands, and is in the province of East Nusa Tenggara. Sumba has an area of 11,153 km2, and the population was 656,259 at the 2010 Census. To the northwest of Sumba is Sumbawa, to the northeast, across the Sumba Strait (Selat Sumba), is Flores, to the east, across the Savu Sea, is Timor, and to the south, across part of the Indian Ocean, is Australia.
Historically, this island exported sandalwood and was known as Sandalwood Island.
Before colonization by western Europeans in the 1500s, Sumba was inhabited by Australian and Polynesian people.[citation needed] In 1522 the first ships from Europe arrived, and by 1866 Sumba belonged to the Dutch East Indies, although the island did not come under real Dutch administration until the twentieth century. Jesuits opened a mission in Laura, West Sumba in 1866.
Despite contact with western cultures, Sumba is one of the few places in the world in which megalithic burials, are used as a 'living tradition' to inter prominent individuals when they die. Burial in megaliths is a practice that was used in many parts of the world during the Neolithic and Bronze Ages, but has survived to this day in Sumba, and has raised significant interest from scholars. At Anakalang, for instance, quadrangular adzes have been unearthed. Another long-lasting tradition is the sometimes lethal game of pasola, in which teams of often several hundred horse-riders fight with spears.
The largest town on the island is the main port of Waingapu, with a population of about 52,755. The landscape is low, limestone hills, rather than the steep volcanoes of many Indonesian islands. There is a dry season from May to November and a rainy season from December to April. The western side of the island is more fertile and more heavily populated than the east.
Due to its distinctive flora and fauna Sumba has been categorised by the World Wildlife Fund as the Sumba deciduous forests ecoregion. Although generally thought to be originally part of the Gondwana southern hemisphere supercontinent, recent research suggests that it might have detached from the South East Asia margin. Sumba is within the Wallacea ecozone, having a mixture of plants and animals of Asian and Australasian origin. Most of the island was originally covered in deciduous monsoon forest while the south-facing slopes, which remain moist during the dry season, were evergreen rainforest.

BAHASA INDONESIA:

WEEKURI LAKE , SUMBA BARAT DAYA, NUSA TENGGARA TIMUR. INDONESIA
Memang, sesampai nya di danau itu no signal at all.
Ini tuh no filter sama sekali yaa.. Memang keren parah tempatnya. Enjoy it..!! ;)
Thanks for wathcing. :)

Danau Weekuri salah satu destinasi keindahan d pulau sumba-Nusa Tenggara Timur
SUMBA ISLAND, Indonesia - The Secret Paradise
Searching for your next ultimate travel adventure isn´t easy right? Especially if you are looking for a remote paradise like a forgotten island. Just one hour by flight, southwest of Bali, I found a little island called Sumba. During my research, I couldn´t find a lot of information (in English language). Not many videos or Vlogs, no big Instagram hypes, even on Tripadvisor there are still many beautiful places missing. Exactly what I was looking for :)
A little bit of a TRAVEL ITINERARY and some basic information:
I was travelling solo, couldn´t speak the indonesian language and didn´t plan anything before (except the first accomodation). I flew from Bali, Denpasar to Sumba, Waingapu (Capital). There is another small airport called Tambolaka. If you have time, you can take also the boat from Sumbawa or Flores (I think). I rented a motorbike in Waingapu for the whole time (10 days). I just asked on the airport for it. It broke down two times within the first two hours after arrival. During this time I already noticed how extremly friendly and helpful the people are. All the information about the places and the things to do, I got from the locals. I drove first through East and than through West Sumba. If you are friendly to the locals, they will be friendly to you which means you are safe all the time. Didn´t have any problems there.
If you have any questions, feel free to comment below, thanks :)
- Some amazing places that you can find in the video: -

NORTHERN PART:

- Pantai Ratenggaro (In front of the historical village)
- Ratenggaro village (Historical village)
- Bawana beach (Beuatiful beach with the stone tunnel)
- Pantai Watu Malandong

--- A BIG THANK YOU TO / AND RECOMMENDED ACCOMODATIONS --

- Sumba Surf Camp (Basic but really relaxing place with a stunning view of the ocean of West Sumba), if you are surfing, you might be the only one on the wave)

Desa Adat
