Panda Rayakan Festival Kue Bulan

Festival pertengahan musim gugur jatuh pada tanggal 15, bulan kedelapan kalender lunar China.

Orang China menikmati kue bulan, kue bulat berbentuk bulan purnama dengan macam-macam isi. Tak terkecuali, kedua panda di Provinsi Shandong.

Qinchuan dan Lele, dua panda berumur tiga tahun, dari Taman Hewan Firdaus Jinbao di kota Weifang, juga menikmati kue bulan khusus dalam perayaan ini.

Bahannya juga berbeda, sesuai dengan selera panda.

Isinya dari delapan bahan khusus, termasuk daun bambu dan makanan favorit mereka lainnya. Kue bulannya dibuat khusus, untuk mereka menikmati Festival Pertengahan Musim Gugur.

Kuenya dibuat ekstra besar karena selera makan panda tinggi. Masing-masing makan lebih dari 23 kg rebung dan satu setengah atau dua kilogram apel setiap hari.

And New Tang Dynasty Television wishes you a happy Mid-Autumn Festival. Here's hoping you enjoy it as much as the two pandas in our next story.

The Mid-Autumn Festival falls today in the Chinese lunar calendar -- it marks the beginning of the long slide towards winter.

But for now, the thoughts of many Chinese are on mooncakes, the full moon shaped filled pastries often enjoyed today. And two pandas in Shandong Province are no exception.

The two three-year-old pandas, Qinchuan and Lele, were able to enjoy special mooncakes in celebration of the holiday. They reside at the Jinbao Paradise Animal Park in the city of Weifang.

The ingredients were also modified, just a bit, to suit the pandas' tastes.

[Li Peiying, Panda Director, Jinbao Paradise Animal Park]:
The stuffing is made with eight special ingredients, including bamboo leaves and other kinds of their favorite foods. We made mooncakes especially for them so that they can enjoy the Mid-Autumn Festival.

The cakes were prepared extra-large because the pandas have rather large appetites; each eats over 50 pounds of bamboo shoots and three or four pounds of apples every day.

The Kite Museum Printing Shop - Weifang.AVI

Located in the City of Weifang, the Kite Museum has more than just kites. These artists are in a small kitchen-size room with a potbelly stove burning coal in the corner of the room. The strong smell of burning coal fills your nose as the artists are practicing a craft that has been in use for over 600 years. The wooden reliefs are carved to accomodate one color. The paper is pressed with the one relief and color and then the next piece of wood is carved and dyed to press the paper until the final picture is finished.
