Weifang in East China's Shandong province is known as the kite capital of the world due to its 2,400-year-long association with manufacturing and flying kites. It is also home to the International Kite Federation and the annual Weifang International Kite Festival.

On a recent trip to Weifang, the Kite Capital of China, we made a visit to the kite museum in the center of town. In the square next to the museum we came upon this old man whipping a top. Not the first time to witness this brutal sport, we quietly watched the display of power and concentration before entering the museum.

It doesn't really look like a factory. And there aren't that many workers in the buildings. It is more of a tourist attraction. We were told that most of the 'famous kites from Weifang' were made throughout the neighborhoods by small groups and individuals in their homes.
