Places to see in ( Nuremberg - Germany ) Weissgerbergasse
The Weißgerbergasse is a street in Nuremberg . It is one of the few predominantly preserved historical monument ensembles of Nuremberg's Old Town . It is lined with bars, restaurants and galleries. The Weißgerbergasse is located in the Nuremberg district 0 - 06 in the north of the Pegnitz Sebalder old town. It leads from the south in Pegnitz near Maxplatz first northeast, then east towards Sebalduskirche to the wine market. To the north run the Geiersberg and the Irrerstraße parallel to the Weißgerbergasse. The Irrerstraße begins at the wine market. The south side of the corner house Irrerstraße 1 is located on the Weißgerbergasse.
About twenty medieval half-timbered houses in the Weißgerbergasse have the heavy air raids on Nuremberg over. The Weißgerbergasse therefore reflects a part of the historic Nuremberg, especially an old artisan quarter within the Burgviertel . The name of the street comes from the White tanners , which in the Middle Ages were located there and in contrast to the Rotgerbern using alum to fine raw hides, salt, flour, eggs and tree oil, light leather, the so-called white leather, processed Since the tanning of the animal skins at that time claimed a great deal of water and also represented a not inconsiderable odor nuisance, it is no accident that the craft houses almost all had a private well and were located at the outskirts near the outflowing Pegnitz.
It is thanks to the Nuremberg Old Town friends and the homeowners that most of the houses have been lovingly renovated and you can gain a glimpse of what old Nuremberg once looked like. At the houses Weißgerbergasse 16 and 25 you can even find two of the Nürnberger Chörlein, d. H. Bay window on the house facade, which loosened the strict picture of the Nuremberg house facades. At the same time they served to observe the events on the street.
Erich Mulzer wrote about the Ensemble Weißgerbergasse and its sights: With 22 old houses, the Weißgerbergasse is the best preserved street in the old town. In contrast to the Füll, however, there are narrower houses that are mostly built of timber framing. Despite the similar width of the street and the height of the houses as in the Füll, it creates a much more moving and colorful picture - characteristic of the artisan lanes of the old city, in which a diverse and active life always took place. Works of art, on the other hand, return to the overall impression: there is only one single old chörlein (at no. 25), and the dormersusually remain unadorned. Typical for craftsman houses are instead the white tiger emblem of 1708 and the locksmith's sign from about 1820 (both at no. 24) as well as the small Biedermeier door with carved fruit cornucopias (no. 28). The corner figure of St. Egidius with the Hindu (No. 26) is a copy of a ruined similar half-timbered house elsewhere. Some charming and picturesque courtyards (Nos. 19, 21, 23 and 35) are not generally accessible. This is also true of a striking Baroque garden room with rich Stuckierung (in the passage behind the entrance next to no. 27).
A Nuremberg townhouse usually included front building, narrow side wings, courtyard and rear building . The courtyard with fountain , staircase, elevator and sometimes a small garden was often the center of everyday life. At least the side wing carried on all floors open galleries (called corridors) as a combination of front and rear building. Often these galleries also moved on two or three sides or on all sides the yard. The ornamental architecture of the galleries was a mixed Nuremberg style of Gothic tracery in the balustrades and later Renaissance columns and baroque consoles, The form of balustrade ('dock') balustrades, which corresponds more to the Renaissance, can be found in wood in the Weißgerbergasse 23. The timelessly simple parapet of the brigades is provided by the Weissgerbergasse 35.

10 Things to do in Nuremberg, Germany travel guide video transcript:
We started our day by taking the U-bahn to the centre of town and getting off at Lorenzkirche. This put us on the south bank of the Pegnitz River, where we took the opportunity to browse some markets before visiting St Lorenz Church.
This is a beautiful gothic church complete with pointed vaults, stained glass windows, and sculptures.
From there we walked across one of the city’s many bridges and continued on to the Beautiful Fountain (yes, that’s the name), searching for a bit of good luck.
One of Nuremberg’s most famed attractions is the Imperial Castle located in the northwest end of the Old Town. The castle is a testament to the power of the Holy Roman Empire during the middle ages.
And we couldn’t come all the way to Nuremberg and not try the famed Nuremberger sausage! We went to Bratwursthäusle, right in the heart of the Old Town by St Sebaldus Church.
Later that afternoon we went into Nuremberg’s deep underground on a tour of the historic beer cellars. Nuremberg has been a beer brewing city for centuries.
While in town, we also took a walk down Weißgerbergasse, which may just be one of the prettiest streets in Nuremberg. This curved cobbled street is lined with half-timbered houses.
Albrecht Dürer’s one time home is now a museum dedicated to his life and work. He was a German Renaissance artist across many mediums, but he is best known for revolutionizing printmaking and elevating it as an art form. At certain times of day, they offer a guided tour with an actress who plays the role of Agnes Dürer, the artist’s wife.
The bridge we were looking for is the Heilig-Geist-Spital, or the Holy Spirit Hospital. It’s not a bridge in the usual sense of the word, rather a medieval building that sits across part of the Pegnitz River.
On a more serious note, we couldn’t leave Nuremberg without also visiting the Dokuzentrum, also known as the The Documentation Center Nazi Party Rallying Grounds.
And that’s a wrap for a our guide to Nuremberg, Germany. If you have any other suggestions of cool things to do in Nuremberg, feel free to share those with fellow travellers in the comments below.

Places to see in ( Nuremberg - Germany ) Fleischbrucke
The Fleisch Bridge (German: Fleischbrücke or Meat Bridge) or Pegnitz Bridge (Pegnitzbrücke) is a late Renaissance bridge in Nuremberg, Germany. The bridge crosses the river Pegnitz in the center of the old town, linking the districts St. Sebald and St. Lorenz along the axis of the main market. The single-arch bridge was built between 1596 and 1598 and replaced an earlier mixed construction of stone and wood which had been repeatedly destroyed by flood.
The Fleisch Bridge is notable for several technical features that were advanced for its time. These include an unusual large width of 15.3 m, and a clear span of 27 m which made it the largest masonry bridge arch in Germany at the time of its construction. With a rise of only 4.2 m, the arch features a span-to-rise ratio of 6.4 to 1, giving the bridge an almost unprecedented flat profile.
This, however, came at the cost of high lateral thrusts even for a segmental arch bridge. This problem was solved by a particularly innovative construction of the abutments which were built onto 2000 wooden piles, 400 of which were rammed obliquely into the grounds. A very similar arrangement of the abutments had also been implemented slightly earlier at the Rialto bridge, leading to speculations about a technology transfer from Venice, with which Nuremberg shared close trade links. A recent in-depth research, however, stresses the originality of the Fleisch Bridge on grounds of technical differences between the two bridges.
The Fleisch Bridge has practically remained unchanged since the addition of a portal in 1599 and survived World War II almost unscathed. A Latin inscription at the portal reads: Omnia habent ortus suaque in crementa sed ecce quem cernis nunquam bos fuit hic Vitulus. (All things have a beginning and grow, but the ox upon whom you now look was never a calf.

Places to see in ( Nuremberg - Germany ) St Sebaldus Church
St. Sebaldus Church is a medieval church in Nuremberg, Germany. Along with Frauenkirche and St. Lorenz, it is one of the most important churches of the city, and also one of the oldest. It is located at the Albrecht-Dürer-Platz, in front of the old city hall. It takes its name from Sebaldus, an 8th-century hermit and missionary and patron saint of Nuremberg. It has been a Lutheran parish church since the Reformation.
The construction of the building began in 1225. the church achieved parish church status in 1255 and was completed by 1273-75. It was originally built as a Romanesque basilica with two choirs. During the 14th century several important changes to the construction were made: first the side aisles were widened and the steeples made higher (1309–1345), then the late gothic hall chancel was built (1358–1379). The two towers were added in the 15th century. In the middle 17th century galleries were added and the interior was remodelled in the Baroque fashion. The church suffered serious damage during World War II and was subsequently restored. Some of the old interior undamaged includes the Shrine of St. Sebaldus, works by Veit Stoss and the stained glass windows. In the church the famous epitaph of the Tucher family can be found.
The church had an organ by the 14th century, and another by the 15th. The main organ had been built in 1440–41 by Heinrich Traxdorf, who also built two small organs for Nuremberg's Frauenkirche. Until its destruction in the 20th century it was one of the oldest playable organs in the world, and all the more notable because Traxdorf was one of the first organ builders to depart from the gothic Blockwerk organ by dividing the windchests and separating the front stops into Flute (Principal) and Octave (see pipe organ). The Traxdorf organ was rebuilt in 1691. The modified case was destroyed by the Allied forces during a bombing raid on 2 January 1945.

Places to see in ( Nuremberg - Germany ) Altstadt
The old town of Nuremberg is situated below the hill of Nuremberg castle and is divided in half by the river Pegnitz. The part of the old town south of the river is called the Lorenzer Altstadt while the northern part is called Sebalder Altstadt. The names are derived from the largest churches in each of the sections.
Nuremberg's old town is divided by the river Pegnitz. The northern half is called Sebalder Alstadt, the southern Lorenzer Altstadt. The castle dominates the north-western corner of Nuremberg's old town. In the west (on the right, when coming from the city) the castle starts with Luginsland tower. Between it and the five-cornered tower is the Kaiserstallung. It was built in 1495 in only one year and served originally as a storehouse for grain. Today it is used as a youth hostel. The five-cornered tower was constructed before 1050 and is the oldest building of the castle and city.
Originally Nuremberg's city wall had a length of five kilometers and five gates: Laufer, Spittler-, Frauen-, Neu- und Tiergärtner Tor. From the 13th to the 16th century the wall was continuously strengthened and is one of the reasons why the city withstood all attacks during this time. Nearly four kilometers of the wall are still standing.
he street Fuell with its sand stone houses is a typical merchant's street. The craftsmen lived in timber-framed houses, many of which have been restored in Weissgerbergasse. More timber-framed houses can be seen in Obere and Untere Kraemersgasse. In Untere Kraemersgasse 16 you can often look into the tiny courtyard.
For many hundreds of years, the sandstone bedrock of Nuremberg's castle hill has been riddled with vaulted cellars and secret passageways. Rock-Cut Beer Cellars, Casemates, Water Supply Conduits. The total square footage today known 20.000 m2.
