Welford Arm and Bosworth Tunnel , Summer Daze | Ep 32 Life in a Nutshell
E32 Summer Daze Vlog of Life in a Nutshell narrowboat travels.
We left Crick and headed north on the Leicester Arm of the Grand Union Canal. A toss of the beer chip took us down the Welford Arm to the delightful little village of Welford. A quick stock up at the shop at the top of the hill in the little town of Welford followed by a night at the Wharf Inn pub. A couple of ales later, then it was back to Nutshell to crank the fire for a lovely warm evening. The next day we headed back up the Arm and took a right back on to the Leicester Arm, through the Bosworth Tunnell and onwards towards the top of the Foxton Staircase Locks’ flight.
See you on 13th July for our first Questions and Answers live from Nutshell, 7pm London Time.

30. A trip to Welford by narrowboat: part 1 (Grand Union canal, Leicester Arm)
In advance of leaving the marina for the summer and going touring non-stop, I decided to have a practise run / warm-up. So marina manager Neil and I took our boats in convoy up the Grand Union Canal Leicester Arm to the Welford Arm and down the end (to the pub again). This is part 1 of the account of that trip.

British Festival on Queens Wharf
It is a 3-day festival taking place over the Queens Birthday weekend. Of course, us City of Auckland Morris Dancers are there, but so is the Auckland City Pipe Band and some Scottish dancing groups, the anglo-celtic band Tamlin, some acts I have not seen yet, and lots of Mini cars. This was Day 1 of 3.
065 Up the Welford Arm on our Narrowboat and nearly running out of food.
In this vlog, we leave the Foxton locks behind and have a peaceful countryside cruise on our Narrowboat, further down the Grand Union Canal and then up the Welford Arm.

Anyone for a drink? The Blue Lias beside the canal near Stockton Hundreds of pubs can be found alongside Britain’s inland waterways, many of them historic rural locals offering the perfect place to eat, drink and relax on a canal boat holiday. With names like the Lock, the Navigation, the Narrowboat and Bridge, canalside pubs often date back to the construction of the canals over 200 years ago, when they provided a place for navvies and canal builders to live, and later for the boatmen running c...

064 Our First Staircase Locks and Exploring the Foxton Incline Plane.
Today we leave Market Harbour and retrace out steps down the arm. Jo and George take a short cut to avoid some of the twists and turns of the canal.
Foxton Locks are buzzing, It's a busy spring, Sunday lunchtime, and the Foxton Lock Inn's garden is full of people enjoying the sunshine. The canal side too is rammed with people watching the Narrowboats come and go. Luckily there are not too many boats waiting to go up the locks and we are advised by the lock keepers that we will just need to wait 45 minutes for our turn.
The lock keeper is incredibly helpful and friendly, and seems to be as busing marshalling all the gongoozerlers as much as he is helping us.
Once we are up the 10 locks we moor up and go and have an explore. We visit the little museum and go and see the famous incline plane.

Through Foxton Locks - Blacking Beckons (Part 1)
On this trip, I am taking the boat to Debdale Wharf to get the hull blacked, this being necessary every few years to preserve the steel work, particularly on the water line. This journey takes me from Welford Junction through Husbands Bosworth Tunnel (my first solo tunnel) and down Foxton Locks, two flights of five staircase locks. These are the longest and steepest staircase locks in the UK. I stop on way to look at Theddingworth Station, which closed in 1966.
Please also look at my earlier video published on 5th April 2018 entitled ‘Foxton Locks Repairs’.

P.olice ‘should not stop and search you for smelling of weed’, report advises.
Police should not stop and search people just because they smell of weed – and that’s the official advice given to police officers.
But some cops aren’t happy after the advice was reiterated in an Inspectorate of Constabulary report on Tuesday.
Police can ‘stop and search’ if they have reasonable grounds to suspect that someone is carrying drugs, weapons or stolen property.
.@HMICCunningham: #stopsearch can be used appropriately to prevent arrest. Police chiefs say it’s an important tool & we wouldn’t disagree with that
