Wellingborough
Wellingborough is a market town and borough in Northamptonshire, England, situated 11 miles from the county town of Northampton. The town is situated on the north side of the River Nene, most of the older town is sited on the flanks of the hills above the river's current flood plain. Due to frequent flooding by the River Nene, the town was mostly built above the current level of the flood plain. Originally named Wendelingburgh, the town was founded in the early 6th century Saxon period by a Saxon leader called Waendel and is mentioned in the Domesday Book under the name of Wendelburie. The town was granted a royal market charter in 1201, by King John of England.
As of 2011 the census states the borough has a population of 75,400, which the town itself accounts for 49,087. The town of Wellingborough is governed by The Borough Council of Wellingborough, with their office located in the town centre. The town is twinned with Niort in France, and with Wittlich in Germany.

Welcome to Wellingborough.
Welcome to Wellingborough, Northamptonshire, UK.
Take a close look at the name on some of the rubbish and you will see what the problem is in Wellingborough.
Latvia must be such a tidy place.
UK should be able to bill the EU to clean up this mess as it was their rules which forced this scum on the UK.
The Volta Tower Display at Wellingborough Museum, May 2012
This incredible display at Wellingborough Museum is of salvaged stones from the Volta Tower collapse site in 1951. These stones include a cherub from near the top, a shield bearing the Mackworth Dolben arms from above the porch, and the name stones from either side of the front door. The display also features a digital photo framed postcard of the tower, a large high quality background image of the tower and an A4 write-up from the Wikipedia page that I established.
For more information on this display, please visit the page on my website with reference to this magnificent display: thevoltatower.weebly.com/wellingborough-museum.html
The Volta Tower was a building in the town of Finedon, England built in 1865 by Mr. William Mackworth-Dolben. He built the tower to commemorate the death of his son, William Digby, a naval officer, who drowned at sea in 1863 while serving on the ship HMS Volta. The tower stood far back with a long driveway in front, along Station Road in Finedon. Not much changed within the surroundings of the Volta Tower apart from the New Cemetery being constructed alongside in 1892. The tower sadly collapsed on 16th November 1951 after standing for 86 years. At the time of its collapse, Mrs. Florence Northen and her husband lived there. Mr. Northen was outside at the time of its collapse and survived but Mrs. Northen was inside and killed by the tower's collapse. It was suggested after its collapse that no mortar had been used in its construction, causing the untimely disaster, however underground quarrying close-by is also suggested to having being a contributor to the building's demise.
Older residents of the town who remember the day of the Volta Tower's collapse describe hearing a loud rumble as it collapsed and describe seeing a huge dust cloud in the air over where the Volta Tower had been standing. Today, the driveway up to where the Volta Tower stood still exists and a farm has been built on top of the Volta Tower's location as well as a bungalow. All that exists of the tower today is the stones featured in the video and another cherub which was auctioned to a Finedon lady in recent years and is now in her front garden wall. Sadly, it is only the older generation or those who have been told about the Volta Tower who know of its past existence but for many of Finedon's residents, they will have never heard of it. It was one of Finedon's landmarks and does appear on Finedon's town sign alongside the church and the windmill. Incidentally, both are close to where the Volta Tower stood.

Wellingborough Museum, 6th Annual Bus Rally & Irchester Narrow Gauge Railway Museum 21/4/2018
A fantastic rally of old buses held at Wellingborough Museum, held by the 794 group, here's a link to a Documentary on their bus 794 I recommend you watch it.
I went on several old buses up to Wollaston, Earls Barton, Irchester Country Park Narrow Gauge Railway Museum and back, throughout the day for free, but made a little donation. The event is in April at the Museum each year and has been since 2013.
As I say I went up to Irchester and looked around the Narrow Gauge Railway Museum. The Irchester Narrow Gauge Railway Museum is a small railway museum and metre gauge railway near Wellingborough in Northants, England. The area around Wellingborough was rich in iron ore. A quarry opened in Irchester around 1872 to extract the iron ore, which was mainly processed in the local iron works. Ironstone continued to be mined up until closure of the quarries in 1969.
In 1971 the Northamptonshire County Council opened the Irchester Country Park, which is located on the site of the former opencast ironstone quarries. The park has a network of walks, a visitors centre and a children's play area in a grass and woodland setting. The museum was set-up within the park in 1987, inside a purpose built building to the west of the original ironstone railway maintenance yard. Access to the museum is along a footpath which follows the line of the ironstone railway trackbed. There are over 40 items of narrow gauge railway rolling stock including four steam locomotives and six diesel locomotives. A 250-metre long demonstration track with a gauge of 1,000 mm (3 ft 3 3⁄8 in) has been laid in the park.[1] The original water tank has been recreated using a tank of similar design, complete with lettering matching the original, to show the visiting public how it would have looked .
The event was over the weekend I was 21st April 2018 on the Saturday, buses include:
