Wellington botanic garden, New Zealand
Wellington botanic garden, New Zealand
After visiting Zealandia, the free shutter van dropped us at the Cable car station. We walked through the Botanic Gardens from the top of hill down to the main entrance gate.
On the way we stopped at the Treehouse visitor centre and the duck pond. At the entrance of the Treehouse we saw an interesting sculpture called the Bee Lady. The platforms/balcony surrounding the visitor centre gave us a great view of the Botanic Gardens as well as Wellington. Along the way, we also saw many different kinds of flowers and plants.
The information below is from the website
Over 26 hectares of unsurpassed views, unique landscape, exotic forests, native bush, colourful floral displays and gorgeous specialist gardens.
Visit the Duck Pond, Begonia House, award-winning Lady Norwood Rose Garden, Treehouse Visitor Information Centre, Sundial of Human Involvement, Children's Play Area and the historic Bolton Street Memorial Park, where many of the city's pioneers are buried.
Gardens open daily sunrise to sunset. Garden tours are available by prior booking or prior request.

New Zealand Honeymoon || Exploring Wellington - Oriental Bay, Te Papa, & Botanic Gardens
November 10, 2019
We woke up in our campground in the town of Ashhurst, and despite the cemetery next to us and the natural disaster alarm going off at 2 am, we had a great night of sleep!
The rain started on our drive South to Wellington, the capital of New Zealand. I desperately needed a shower so thank goodness Owen surprised me with a cute AirBnb in Oriental Bay.
We explored Wellington, despite the rain, and had amazing food and drinks on the water. We explored a couple exhibits at the Te Papa Museum and I honestly don't think I have ever been so impressed by a museum. It is free admission and still one of the coolest things I saw while in New Zealand!
We ended our night taking the Wellington Cable Car up a huge hill to get a great view of the city below, and we walked back to our AirBnb through the Botanic Gardens.
We also planned many of our South Island adventures because tomorrow, we head SOUTH! :)

Weta Workshop Tours in Wellington - New Zealand's Biggest Gap Year – Backpacker Guide New Zealand
Day 76: Today we are checking out not one but two Weta Workshop Tours in Wellington to see the behind-the-scenes of The Lord of the Rings and Thunderbirds Are Go!
Yesterday - Day 75 ➜
Tomorrow – Day 77 ➜
30 Tips for Backpacking in New Zealand ➜
-- About this video --
Today we are jumping on a bus from Wellington City Centre in New Zealand and heading over to Miramar, the home of Weta Studios, Weta Cave and the Weta Workshop!
Weta are the props and special effects team behind huge movies and TV shows, most famously The Lord of the Rings and Avatar, so visiting the Weta Workshop is a must for a Lord of the Rings in New Zealand experience. #realmiddleearth
We arrive at the free portion of Weta’s offerings in Miramar, The Weta Cave. At the Weta Cave you can take a look in their mini museum of Lord of the Rings props and figurines. There is also a behind-the-scenes video to explain the work that Weta Studios and Weta Digital do.
For a more in-depth look at Weta’s work, we join a Weta Workshop Tour which takes us to one of their prop rooms and has windows looking into Weta workers creating props for their next movie. The Weta Workshop Tour allows no photography or filming but it’s a great insight into the movie industry.
After our Weta Workshop Tour, we head on one more tour to see how miniature effects are made with the Weta Thunderbirds Are Go tour. Although we don’t know much about the Thunderbirds Are Go! TV show, we are surprised to be amazed by the miniature worlds created by the Weta New Zealand team. We might even go as far as to say that it was our personal favourite Weta Tour of the day!
So what do you think of the Weta Workshop Tours in Wellington? Would you add the Weta Cave or Weta Workshop Tours to your New Zealand bucket list?

???? QUI SUIS-JE ? - WHO I AM ?
My name is Julien Calabro, I was born in the south of France and I strarted to travel around Europe with my family when I was 12 years old. I enjoyed it so much my only thoughts were about travel. At 21 I moved to Paris where I lived by myself for about 5 years. During that time, the pace of my travels has very rapidly increased. I have been to New York, and Canada, then for the first time in Asia in 2012. I also went to Morocco in Africa in 2014. After all these trips my life has been changed a lot and I feeled depressed when I was working in France. At 27 years old I took a radical decision and left my job, my flat and then, my country... I moved to Sydney in Australia for about 2 years, and then now, in Auckland, the biggest city of New Zealand. I don't know what I will do and where I will be tomorrow, but I love my random life around the world.

-- About this video --
Today on New Zealand’s Biggest Gap Year web series we are visiting Zealandia in Wellington. Zealandia is a wildlife sanctuary in New Zealand with a protective predator proof fence. Native birds are abundant here where it is safe from invasive pests. We learn a lot about the native ecosystem and the threat of introduced pests at the Zealandia Museum.
After being given a map of multiple walks around Zealandia in Wellington, we start walking to see more and more New Zealand birds. We see kaka, tui, takahe, North Island robin, shags and so much more!
Feeding stations in Zealandia allow you to see New Zealand native birds up-close.
We also bump into one of the Zealandia Ecosanctuary volunteers who gives us a quick tour of Zealandia to explain more about the native plants and birds of New Zealand. We even see the weta, a giant New Zealand insect.
If you want to learn about New Zealand’s eco-system, it’s native wildlife and the New Zealand birds, then Zealandia Ecosanctuary in Wellington is a great place to start to get informed.
So what do you think of Zealandia in Wellington? Is this wildlife sanctuary in Wellington a place you would put on your New Zealand bucket list?

-- About this video --
Today we are going to the Te Papa Museum in Wellington! Not only is it a great thing to do in Wellington on a rainy day, it’s also a free activity in Wellington.
But first, we arrive at the campervan to hilariously find that it’s trapped by the Sunday Market next to the Te Papa Museum, so we pick up some veggies before heading to the Te Papa Museum in Wellington.
We first check out the “secret” exhibition about the earthquake-proofing of the building before entering the Te Papa Museum.
Inside we are spoiled for choice with the amount of exhibitions, from Maori culture to World War exhibitions to natural history. We almost spend the whole day inside the Te Papa Museum as there is so much to see and do here. There are even interactive displays so it’s an awesome way to learn more about New Zealand.
Te Papa Museum in Wellington is a free thing to do in Wellington city centre. So what do you think of the Te Papa Museum? Is the Te Papa Museum somewhere you would check out in Wellington?
