The band played music of famed jazz musicians, including trumpeter, singer and composer Dizzie Gillespie, who was born John Birks Gillespie on Oct. 21, 1917, in Cheraw, SC. He was one of the more recognizable faces of jazz music, with his swollen cheeks and signature trumpet's bell, as well as one of the most influential figures of jazz and bebop. He attended Laurinburg Institute, and played with Charlie Parker, developing the music known as bebop. Gillespie's best-known compositions include Oop Bob Sh' Bam, Groovin' High, Salt Peanuts, A Night in Tunisia and Johnny Come Lately,” according to online sources.
On the 85th anniversary of his birth, a seven-foot bronze statue of Gillespie playing his bent horn was erected on the Cheraw Town Green. The Dizzy Gillespie Home Site Park features modern sculpture, eclectic stainless steel benches and a funky stainless steel fence.

CPreports 12.12.12. - 12.12.12 Concert, North Korea Rocket Launch, FBI busts Facebook Gang
Today is the day! For many special things looks like! 12.12.12 is pretty much the last time we will see a repetitive date, and many people are seeing it as a very special day. To mark its speacialness, many have taken to the betting stations and casinos to see if 12.12.12 will bring them luck, some have taken to wedding chapels to get hitched at 12:12pm. In New York's Madison Square Garden. The charity show for Superstorm Sandy victims has been nicknamed the 12-12-12 concert and will include musical greats such as Bruce Springsteen, Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Eric Clapton, Billy Joel, Kanye West, Alicia Keys and Bon Jovi. I myself am thinking about going out there to get me a lottery ticket! So happy 12.12.12 to everyone! Make it special!
North Korea also decided to take advantage of this special day of 12.12.12 and successfully launched a rocket today, boosting the credentials of its new leader and stepping up the threat the isolated and impoverished state poses to opponents. The rocket, has been labeled by the United States, South Korea and Japan as a test of technology, that could one day deliver a nuclear warhead, capable of hitting targets as far away as the continental United States. In June 2009 a UN resolution passed, banning Pyongyang from ballistic missile tests, after North Korea had carried out a second nuclear test. The United States condemned the launch as provocative and a breach of U.N. rules, while Japan's U.N. envoy called for a Security Council meeting. However, diplomats say further tough sanctions are unlikely from the Security Council as China, the North's only major ally, will oppose them.
An alleged cybercrime ring said to be responsible for losses of $850m, looks to have been foiled by the FBI - by using Facebook. In a statement, the US authority said 10 suspects had been arrested globally, including from the US and the UK. A gang was said to be using a botnet to steal credit card, bank account and other personal identifiable information from victims. Facebook worked with authorities to reveal the alleged source of the attacks, as well as identifying which users may have been hit. Other suspects were arrested in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Macedonia, New Zealand and Peru.
But not to worry, Newberry College in Newberry, South Carolina, seems to have a plan to prepare our next generations for such scenarios as Facebook crimes, where some students are taking up a major that will be sure to confound parents who are shelling out thousands for their kids' college educations: Social media. It's a blended major of graphic design, communications, business and marketing, psychology, and statistics. It's also a smart way to entice entrepreneurial-minded students to stay in school. And a great excuse to tell parents all those texts and tweets aren't a waste of time--they're homework. Well I don't think this idea is too far fetched! So far we have seen mountains being moved with social media, so maybeit would be good to understand how it works.
