UK - Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway, 7/8/13 (or The Cat Sat on the Track)
GWR 0-6-0 No.823 Countess is doing the day's work on the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway in central Wales. No.823 was one of the original locomotives built by Beyer Peacock to operate the line in 1903. The W&L has now operated as a heritage line for only 3 years less than it operated as a commercial operation, originally with the Cambrian Railways and later the GWR. Filmed on 7/8/2013.

An in-depth look at the delightful Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway 25 Aug 2019
I spent the day videoing the Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway and was not disappointed. The line follows the contours of the land so has many tight curves and gradients and the locomotives are worked hard. For my visit I stuck to the two terminal stations but did manage to include all of the intermediate stations. A further visit to explore more of the countryside rather than just the road crossings is for a future date. Many thanks to the operations team at the W&LLR for providing this magnificent show and for those of you that haven't visited the railway I would recommend that you do.

Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway (Part 1):
My first visit to this lovely 2'6 guage eight mile long line was not a disappointment. This video takes a look along the line each way on a two hour round trip from Llanfair to & from Welshpool behind GWR 823 'Countess'.
This was the 10.00 first service on Sunday 8th September 2019 as we were en route to Snowdonia in North Wales.
On our return journey I was able to capture the final service of the day on Wednesday 11th September and will be uploaded seperately as 'Part 2'.........
Further information on the line can be found here...

Great Little Trains of Wales #1:
In this first part of this series of videos, we take a look at the Welshpool and Llanfair light Railway in mid-wales.
This 2ft 6inch gauge line runs for 8 and 1/2 miles from the town of Welshpool to Llanfair Caerinion through some beautiful Welsh countryside. Opened in 1903, the line was originally operated by the Cambrian Railway before being absorbed into the GWR in 1923. Freight traffic lingered through BR days until 1956 when the line was closed, however the preservationists re-started the line 1963 and the line is now operating at their original length.
On this particular day, their orange timetable was in operation with two trains running including a vintage mixed set. Kerr Stuart 0-6-2 'Joan' and line original Beyer Peacock loco 'Countess' were both in action.
The sun was in and out all afternoon but with plenty of time left in the day, there was lots to see and do as we explored this lesser known narrow gauge railway. Hope you enjoy!

Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway 2012
My very first visit to the Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway was in 1988. At the time, I had no idea that locomotive No. 12, 'Joan' was a survivor from the West Indies. On the day of my visit, she was in steam but had failed at Castle Caerenion. It was then, during a chat with a member of the railway, that I first became aware of her remarkable providence.
'Joan' was built in 1929 by Kerr Stuart of Stoke at their California Works. She was exported to Antigua, in the British West Indies, where she worked on a large Sugar estate. In 1971 she was discovered by W&LLR Trustee Tony Thorndike and repatriated to the UK.
After many years of failed plans to visit the W&LLR it was a great pleasure and privileged to reacquaint myself with 'Joan' after so many years and to see her steaming again after two decades in the workshop.
My thanks to the volunteers and staff at the W&LLR for the job you have done on 'Joan' and indeed your wonderful railway. I hope that you enjoy this short video.

Welshpool Steam - Railfilms
Set in the heart of the rural Welsh Marches, the 2ft 6in gauge Welshpool & Llanfair Light Railway possesses a quiet charm and unspoiled friendliness unique amongst Britain's preserved lines. Alone amongst the Great Little Trains of Wales, this Edwardian gem was built not for slate, minerals or visitors, but for the everyday needs of the local farming community. Welshpool and Llanfair Light Railway - Sept 2017
On the final day of my Welsh holiday in 2017 I visited the Welshpool and Llanfiar Light Railway.
I managed to get two round trips but didn't get much film from the lineside. Couldn't resist a bit of onboard film however from the front balcony.
Also thank you very much to the Guard who took me round the workshops!
