Route:
Wenchang is a county-level city in the northeast of Hainan province, China. Although called a city, Wenchang refers to a large land area in Hainan - an area which was once a county. The urban center and the seat of government of Wenchang is officially known as Wencheng Town which is also colloquially referred to as Wenchang City.
Wenchang is the source of most overseas Hainanese migrants, with the majority of Singapore's Hainanese population having ancestral roots in Wenchang. The Wenchang dialect is considered the prestige form of the Hainanese language and is used by the island's provincial broadcasting media.
Tianmeidong, a village located in Wenchang, received international attention in 2007 when they changed their name to Tianweiban; officials were unsure how to type the final character of the new name on computers, causing various difficulties for villagers. It was promoted from a county to a city on November 7, 1995, and had a population of 86,551 in 1999 (estimated 2006: 115,000).
Located in the northeastern part of Hainan, Wenchang covers a total area of 2,403 square kilometres (928 sq mi). The east side has a long coastline along the South China Sea while the west borders Dongzhai Harbor, Haikou's Meilan District, Qionghai, and Ding'an County. The land is mostly hilly and contains both forest and agricultural areas. The entire area is populated with countless towns, farms, and villages.
The Wenchang Satellite Launch Center is located in Wenchang. This is China's fourth and southernmost space vehicle launch facility and because of its low latitude, the Wenchang Satellite Launch Center has been selected to launch China's space station. On 22 September 2007, CCTV officially announced the construction of an expanded Wenchang Satellite Launch Center has been approved by the State Council and the Central Military Commission of the People's Republic of China [4] after decades of postponement due to political concerns.

Famous Confucius Temple in Tainan and Foguangshan Monastery
There was one last sight in Tainan that travelers visit, Confucius Temple. It sometimes seems that everyone has a twisted Confucius quote. Heavens knows, Marine Steve does but joking aside, the Confucius Temple in Tainan was built in 1666 and was the highest official institution of learning in Taiwan. Reconstructed more than 30 times due to war and natural disasters, there are 15 structures inside the temple including a museum.
And just like Universities and Colleges today, only those who passed a stiff examination were allowed to study here. Confucius was a thinker, political figure, educator, and his teachings formed the foundation in China on education and how an individual should live his life and interact with others. A man of his times...
Lord Wenchang Hall: Guide of Taipei Guandu Temple
Lord Wenchang Hall of Taipei Guandu Temple
Lord Wenchang (God of Literature) Hall is positioned on the right of the main hall. After worshippers pay their respect to Guanyin Buddha, they will pass by the incense burner of Mazu before reaching here. After offering incense to Lord Wenchang, visitors will have completed the first praying procedure at the main hall of Guandu Temple.
Lord Wenchang is also known as Imperial Lord Zitong or Lingying who is in charge of literary success and official rank. Hence, worshippers often seek the deity’s advice on matters related to their studies, various kinds of examinations, job transfer or promotion.
Particularly during the examination period, the Lord Wenchang Hall is filled with examination candidates and parents flocking here to request for blessings in matters related to examination success.
Also worshipped inside the altar is the deity Wenkui who is seen holding a brush dipped in cinnabar on his right hand that represents the selection of the Top Scholar by the Emperor; his left leg is seen kicking backwards, while his right leg stepping on the top of a codfish. All these representations symbolize the auspicious meaning of examination success and emerging as Top Scholar.
The interior of Lord Wenchang Hall is also spacious and brightly lit with ‘Wenchang Lamps’ on the walls behind the altar and on both sides. By lighting the Wenchang Lamps, worshippers hope to be blessed by the God of Culture and Literature in their studies and career advancement.

Wenchang Tower & Gallery at the Summer Palace / 文昌阁 / 文昌閣 (颐和园 / 頤和園)
Wenchang Tower / 文昌阁 / 文昌閣: Built to resemble a city gate. It served as an important entry point into the Summer Palace from the east and south during the Qianlong Emperor's time.
The Wenchang Hall / 文昌院 beside Wenchang Tower has thousands of artifacts (on display in its six halls) extracted from the Summer Palace, covering some 3,600 years from the Shang and Zhou dynasties to the fall of the Qing Dynasty in 1911. The exhibits include bronzeware, jewelry, chinaware, furniture, paintings, calligraphy, ancient books, enamels, clocks, handicrafts made of gold, silver, bamboo, wood, ivory, horn and lacquer, and other miscellaneous items, representing almost all types of Chinese antiques. As one would expect in an imperial garden, these artifacts demonstrate the highest techniques and craftsmanship of their times, and many were once highly important symbols of the state. Also on display in the halls are objects related to the everyday life of emperors and empresses in the Qing court. They are of great historical value and provide some of the most reliable material evidence of the court culture in imperial China.

confucius temple and taiwan art museum in tainan city (TAIWAN) #taiwan #tainan #taiwanartmuseum
The Taiwan Confucius Temple, also called the Scholarly Temple, was built in 1665 during the Koxinga dynasty, when Zheng Jing (Koxinga's son) approved of the proposal by Chief of General Staff Chen Yonghua [zh] to construct the Temple on the right side and the National Academy (to be called Guo Xue hereafter) on the left side of a hill, with both facing the south. On the east (left) side stood Ming-Lun Hall (Hall of Ethics), built as a place for instructors to offer lectures and cultivate intellectuals. On the west(right) side was the sanctuary called Ta-Cheng Hall of Great Achievement), housing the mortuary tablet of Confucius, as well as those of his distinguished disciples. The Wen Miao and Guo Xue compound, the first of its kind in the history of Taiwan, was thus called the First Academy of Taiwan.
In 1685, soon after the island of Formosa was annexed by the Qing dynasty, the first Taiwan Regional Chief Administrator Chou Chang and Taiwan Prefecture Magistrate Chiang Yu-ying began their efforts to have the Wen Miao renovated and the Ta-Cheng Hall reconstructed into Taiwan Prefecture Academy. Since then, the compound has been renovated and expanded several times. In 1712, following a major renovation by Taiwan Chief Administrator Chen Ping , the compound retained its original layout of Wen Miao to the right and Guo Xue to the left. In the Wen Miao, in addition to its Ta-Cheng Hall, a gate named Ta-Cheng Gate (Gate of Great Achievement) was erected at its front yard and a shrine named Chung-Sheng Shrine (Shrine of Confucius' Ancestors) was built in its backyard. The Ta-Cheng Hall was flanked by East-Wu and West-Wu, two chambers in the worship of ancient scholars, while the Ta-Chen Gate stood between Wen-Chang Shrine (Shrine of Scholars) to the left and Tu-Di Shrine (Shrine of the Land) to the right. Also built on both sides of the yard of the Ta-Cheng gate were two walls with the addition of Li Gate (Gate of Rites) and Yi Road (Path of Righteousness). In the academy, a gate named Ju-Te-Chih-Men (Gate of Involving in Virtue) was erected as a main entrance to the Ming-Lun Hall, the main hall of Taiwan Prefecture Academy. Situated between the gate and the hall was a courtyard flanked by Chambers of the Six Arts, while seated behind the hall were residential chambers for faculty. To the east of the Ming-Lun Hall was the Chu Tzu Altar in worship of the scholar Chu Hsi. At this point, the construction of the Wen Miao had developed approximately into its current shape and scale.
The Wen Miao continued to undergo several renovations in the wake of major renovation by Chen Ping. In 1777, Taiwan Prefecture Magistrate Chiang Yuan-shu undertook a major renovation. When Taiwan was established as a province in 1887, Taiwan-fu (modern-day Tainan) became the seat of the newly created Tainan Prefecture, and was renamed Tainan-fu. Thus, the Wen Miao was renamed Tainan Prefecture Academy. After 1895, Taiwan was under Japanese rule, the Wen Miao was once again used as a public school and military barracks and was considerably damaged. A major renovation in 1917, under which some parts of the construction were torn down, resulted in the scale and structure of the Wen Miao as it is today. The temple has been renovated several times over the past 300 years, most recently between 1987 and 1989.
Taiwan art museum
The construction of the museum building 1 was completed in November 1931 and originally opened as Tainan Police Department. After the handover of Taiwan from Japan to the Republic of China in 1945, it was renamed to Tainan City Police Department. The police forces then moved out its operation from the building in 2011. The building is the earliest existing police station in Taiwan.
The museum will be opened to the public on 15 December 2018 with some soft opening of its exhibitions opened in October 2018.

Temple strikes it rich with record fortune money repayment
Last year a biotechnology firm entrepreneur borrowed NT$600 in fortune money from a Nantou temple. Recently he returned and paid back nearly NT$3 million, a record 4,800 times the amount borrowed. As cash counting machines take over the duty of tallying bills, the sound they make is music to the ears. When believers borrow fortune money from temples, they often pay back several times the amount they took. But nobody expected this bonanza, the biggest loan repayment to the temple in three centuries since its founding.NT$2.9 million was placed on the table in front of the god. It was offered by a Taipei biotechnology entrepreneur who borrowed NT$600 last year then struck it big.Chuang Chiu-anZi Nan Temple ChairmanThis is the most money anyone has ever returned to our temple. The amount returned was more than 4,800 times the initial fortune money borrowed. It easily surpassed the past record of around a 1,000-fold repayment. Following the windfall, the chairman of the temple reminded believers that besides favor from the gods, hard work is needed to make money.
