A Fantasyland of Taoist Temples Kaohsiung, Taiwan
Southern Kaohsiung is Taiwan's largest port and second largest city. Travelers in Kaohsiung usually find time to visit Lotus Pond, a riot of colorful Taoist and Buddhist temples both large and small. Each temple or pavilion is dedicated to a different god and decorated in an uber-Disney style.
Walk into the dragon's throat and out a tiger's mouth which symbolizes turning bad luck to good fortune while inside, paintings depict China's 24 obedient sons, and scenes of heaven and hell. Chinese temples certainly manage to liven up the entire religious scene!
Wenchang Temple in Taipei
When schools hold exams, Taiwanese head to the nearest Wenchang Temple. Who exactly is this deity known as Wenchang Dijun? In Taiwan, there are five deities who help students with their exams: Wenchang Dijun (the Spirit of Zitong), Kuei Hsing (the Great Master Kuei), Confucian Scholar Ju Si, Wenheng Dijun ( Kuan Yu), and Lü Tung-Pin.
