12b Brampton Alston Hexham
These 38 films from the 1920's & 1930's often feature the Wright, Hawks, Parry & Slater families who were either close friends or related through marriage.
Though the quality is poor and there is no audio, you can just about hear the brass bands and shrieking children.
Some films show Edith Mary Hollway (born Tynemouth 1891) marrying William H Hawks over Easter 1926 in Brampton and a 1930 film goes on to show their son Freddie (Frederick W Hawks born June 1928).
Another film shows Agnes Cleghorn marrying William H Wright in Tynemouth sometime between April & June 1933 and they went on to have a son Peter who was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1936. Some of their descendants are now raising their own families in California.
Edith A Wright (sister/cousin of William?) is marrying William G Slater in 1926

Market Street Hexham Where Illegal Advertising Is Permitted
It is 2012 and here we go again, new year but same old problem. Further to Northumberland County Councils letter of 6 October 2011 and with reference to the Local Government Ombudsman's direction in respect of the complaint against Northumberland County Council (reference 10 011 286), I again find myself with this reoccurring problem.
On 26 October 2011 Mark Ketley, Principal Planning Officer at Northumberland County Council, stated that once the said survey has been completed I can confirm that the Council will proceed with enforcement action to ensure that advertisement consent, and listed building consent, applications are submitted for all existing flags and flag mounts that are installed unlawfully. Three months later its more of the same. Traders on Market Street remain in breach of The Town and Country Planning (Control of Advertisements) (England) Regulations 2007 and in direct contravention of the enforcement notice issued by Council in October 2009. Mr Ketley, you are either incompetent or a lier.
The flags/banners were removed by traders on 20 November 2011.
The flags/banners were reinstated by traders on 15 January 2012.
Traders are engaged in a wilful infringement of the law.
This situation is now into its fourth year and will no doubt require another site survey. Another waste of tax payers money.
Will Council confirm that it will now proceed with enforcement action?
I think not, it will just allow these determined breaches of parliamentary law to continue unabated.
In Hexham Abbey Wilfrid Gibson (poem), Stephen Brown (composer)
Poem by Wilfrid Gibson (1878 - 1962), written in 1941
Musical setting by Stephen Brown First performance 1st September 2019, Penzance, UK
Soprano: Elinor Chapman, Baritone: Jesse Giuliani, Conductor: Nigel Wicken
Helston Chamber Choir & Orchestra of St Mary's. Sound: Chris Doggett
Poem:
Like spirits resurrected from the tomb
We stept from the dark slype's low-vaulted gloom
Into the transepts' soaring radiancy
Where from the lancets of the clerestorey
Noon-sunshine streaming charged the pale sandstone
Of wall and pillar with a golden tone
Rich as the colour of the rock, fresh-hewn
From sheer Northumbrian hillsides to the tune
Of clinking hammer and chisel, in the days
When the aspiring spirit in life's praise
Soared in exultant fabrics of delight-
Earth-quarried stuff exalted to the height
Of man's imagination, heaven-entranced.
And, as with eager footsteps we advanced
Through the South Transept with enraptured eyes,
From off our hearts fell the perplexities
Of these calamitous times; and we forgot
Awhile the warring of nations and the lot
Of the battalioned youngsters doomed to march
Into annihilation - pier and arch
Springing in sunshine seeming still inspired
With the adoring ecstasy that fired
Those early craftsmen: and we recalled how man,
Builder and breaker since the world began,
Betrayed by frailties of the mortal flesh,
Is yet a phoenix soul that springs afresh
Resilient to the imperishable gleam
Out of the self-wrought havoc of his dream,
From devastation fashioning anew
His vision; and that to his best self true
Man, the destroyer, is Man, the builder, too.
