Weoley Castle Ruins
Weoley Castle was a fortified manor house built 750 years ago. The ruins are one of the oldest buildings still visible in Birmingham, and it is classified as a scheduled Ancient Monument of national importance.
Ruins can be viewed from the viewing platform which is open every day. Direct access to the ruins and the community education centre is available on event days or for groups and schools by a pre-booked guided tour. Find out more about Weoley Castle ruins:

The ruins at Weoley Castle are over 700 years old and are the remains of the moated medieval manor house that once stood here. The site has been inhabited from the 12th century and, according to the Domesday Book, was part of the estates of William Fitz Ansculf.

Man jailed after high speed pursuit through Birmingham
A man has been jailed for dangerous driving after a high speed pursuit through Birmingham in February this year.
Traffic officers attempted to stop a silver BMW 1 Series that was believed to have been stolen on Weoley Castle Road.
The car pulled over and a passenger got out and attempted to obstruct the police car as the BMW drove off at high speed.
Officers pursued the car as the 29-year-old driver sped through red lights and drove on the wrong side of the road - narrowly missing oncoming traffic.
The BMW eventually came to a stop on Bristol Road as the driver drove onto the pavement and got the car wedged between a bollard and the front of a shop.
Appearing at Birmingham Crown Court on 30 March the driver was sentenced to 14 months behind bars.

Birmingham's Quran - The Performance
POWERFUL PERFORMANCE BRINGS BIRMINGHAM QUR’AN TO LIFE AS BMAG DISPLAY COMES TO AN END
Birmingham Qur’an performance – captivating performances will take place on 25th July, curated by internationally acclaimed artist Mohammed Ali (MBE) and performed by Birmingham children
Last chance to see one of the oldest Qur’an manuscripts in the World at Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery before it leaves the Faith Gallery on 4th August
Young community voices will fill Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery (BMAG) as part of a set of unique performances, curated by iconic Birmingham artist Mohammed Ali MBE, which celebrate the significance of the Birmingham Qur’an, as its display at the city centre museum comes to a close.
The immersive performances, involving 18 children from mosques and community groups from around the city, will see a layering of sound, visuals and voices come together in unison to bring the Qur’an to life.
Taking place on Monday 25th July from 7-9pm, the event will mark the final days of the Birmingham Qur’an display at the Faith Gallery at BMAG, which finishes on 4th August.
By reciting one of the verses from the sacred scripture, the children aged 6 to 18 years old, will create a dynamic choral performance from the four corners for the gallery, focusing on the Qur’an which will take centre stage in the middle of the room. Translations of the text will also adorn the walls of the gallery via video projection, so all audience members can understand the importance of the words.
Soul City Arts, Birmingham Museums Trust, Birmingham REP and the University of Birmingham have come together in partnership to stage the performances. The evening will celebrate the importance of this Qur’an to Muslim communities in the city, highlighting the part that Islam plays in shaping the country and Birmingham, alongside other faiths and cultures.
Pages from the celebrated Birmingham Qur’an, which is one of the oldest surviving manuscripts of the Islamic holy book, were famously unveiled in 2015 by the Cadbury Research Library at University of Birmingham. The pages have been on display at BMAG since February and will be returned to the care of the Cadbury Research Library once its display at the Museum & Art Gallery comes to an end.
Mohammed Ali MBE, Artistic Director of Soul City Arts, said: “For such a manuscript to exist here in my home city and to be able craft this performance with the voices of the people, is very personal to me. This is something that will be remembered and will go down in history and I’m honoured to be a part of this epic moment in time which celebrates the Birmingham Qur’an in such style.”
Dr Rebecca Bridgman, Curator of Islamic & South Asian Art, at Birmingham Museums Trust, said: “The Birmingham Qur’an is so important to the Muslim community within Birmingham and we are honoured to have been able to display it to so many visitors since it came to us from the Cadbury Research Library. At Birmingham Museums Trust we are committed to fostering mutual respect for differing cultural traditions and we will continue to welcome people from a range of backgrounds to experience and enjoy our Faith Gallery.
“The performances by Soul City Arts are a fantastic way to bring the pages of the Qur’an to life in a unique and mesmerising way, and it’s only right that young people are the focus of the evening as they are the future of the Birmingham Muslim community.”
