Bacharach, Germany - Wernerkappelle ruins, hillside old city wall & various towers
In addition to the stunning views of Bacharach, Germany below, along with the sweeping Rhine River & Gorge, there are some great hillside views as well. Vineyards fill the landscape, that is also dotted with remnants of the old city wall, along with quite a few remaining wall towers. The gothic ruins of Wernerkapelle dominate the landscape (building began on it in 1287, and it was severely damaged & left to ruin in 1689). The protestant church St. Peter's also stands out to complete the views.
On the very top of the hill sits Stahleck Castle (Burg Stahleck) which is now a thriving hostel.
As always, Ed did the camcorder video filming and narrations heard, while I did the still photography, chose the music heard during the slide show, edited everything and uploaded to You Tube, etc.

Romantic Rhine: Bacharach | Germany #12
A visit to Bacharach. One of the many gems along the Middle Rhine, also known as the 'Romantic Rhine'. Bacharach is a small town with a well preserved medieval centre. Sights include the timber-framed 'Altes Haus', built in the second half of the 14th century, and the castle Stahleck. Tip: walk the circular tour along the town walls, this path leads you to the castle and provides fine views over the town.

Bacharach is Just another adorable, historic, medieval city founded by the Celts and the occupied by Romans. The main sights are Peterskirche (Church of Peter), Wernerkapelle (rhine of former Saint Werner Chapel, and the fortifications.

Bacharach, Germany - old world charm, jewel on the Rhine River
If you are looking for the old world charm of Germany, then Bacharach is one of those jewels on the Rhine River that will fit that bill. It really is a step back in time strolling through the old town district. There will be a separate video devoted to the higher areas above the town, which includes remnants of the old wall, along with some surviving towers, beautiful vineyards growing up into the hills. And, of course, some breathtaking views of the town below, along with the vast Rhine River Valley.
Documentation for the town of Bacharach dates back to the early 11th Century, though many historians also believe that it has existed there since the 7th century. Stahleck Castle sits high on the hill above town; it is now a youth hostel.

Bacharach and the Rhine River Valley , Germany .
The beautiful medieval village of Bacharach with its half timbered houses and cobblestone streets is situated on the Rhine River and is home to the renowned Riesling grape.
Since the Middle Ages, Bacharach, named for Bacchus, the ancient Roman God of wine, has been the most important wine village in the Middle Rhine Valley. At one time, when the riverbank was higher, the medieval defense tower in the center of town was on the waters’ edge and loaded wine barrels from a crane onto ships.
