Travel Germany - Visiting Wernigerode Castle
Take a tour of Wernigerode Castle in Wernigerode, Germany -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Wernigerode Castle, overlooking a city of the same name, sits atop a hill in northern Germany.
The castle was used as a fortress and safe haven in medieval times as a rest stop for German nobles on hunting retreats.
The castle has been renovated three times in the 15th, 16th, and 17th centuries and has incorporated Baroque, Renaissance, and Gothic style architecture.
After damage from the Thirty Years' War, the castle was transformed into a charming retreat.
Among the last restorations made to the castle was the round shape given to the now romantic palace.
Visitors can now tour parts of the castle's grounds as well as its impressive, ornate interior.

Wernigerode, Saxony-Anhalt, Germany - November, 2013
Architecture, Steam Trains, a Castle and a Wedding, Wernigerode seemingly has them all, or at least this film suggests that. I visited Wernigerode in the German state of Saxony-Anhalt in November 2013, in order to ride the acclaimed Brockenbahn narrow gauge railway up to the summit of the Brocken mountain - the highest peak in the Harz Mountains. I stayed there for two full days and made this film of the town during my stay.
The film begins on Marktstraße, before moving to the market square and town hall, where a young couple have just got married, ornamental bells ring along one of the towns quaint streets, before I go by the Western Tower or Westerntor towards the Brockenbahn level crossing. Here I wait for a returning steam train pulling coaches back to Wernigerode Bahnhof, the train passes and I walk along the line to Wernigerode Westerntor station, which is quiet as it is out of season. Nearby some relics of a bygone railway age sit and rust.
I walk on to the new pedestrian / cycle bridge over the railway line, which offers views towards the Brocken, Castle and main railway station. Here I film a couple of passing trains, both new and old. I then make my way along Station Road seeing along the way, a couple of the narrow gauge steam locomotives maouvering and one being filled with coal. I then move on to the station itself where I film a couple of departing services.
From here I walk back into the town centre via St. John's Church, and head for the artistically decorated Nicolaiplatz, and the busy shopping street of Breite Straße. From the end of there I take a road train up to Wernigerode Castle, taking time upon arrival to film the castle, the castle terrace, and then the lovely Wintery views over Wernigerode and the surrounding countryside. The film ends with a view from here directly towards the Brocken - the feature which brought me to this part of Germany in the first place.
Fairytale Castle in Wernigerode - A weekend in the Harzgebierge - Beautifully Vlogged
Back in February, Gary and I travelled to Germany's magical Harzgebirge for my Grandma's 80th birthday. We stayed there for three days.
This is a vlog of our last day in the Harz. In the morning we re-visited the neo-Viking Gustav Adolf Stave Church. We then drove to Wernigerode, where we explored first the medieval town and then it's fairytale castle. Truly one of the most beautiful buildings I have ever seen. Wernigerode Castle is a Schloss located in the Harz mountains above the town of Wernigerode in Saxony-Anhalt, Germany. The present-day building, finished in the late 19th century, is similar in style to Schloss Neuschwanstein, though its foundations are much older.
We ended the day in Goslar, where we had a hot chocolate in a German Gaststätte.

ABOUT THE HARZ
The Harz is the highest mountain range in Northern Germany and its rugged terrain extends across parts of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, and Thuringia. The name Harz derives from the Middle High German word Hardt or Hart - which translates to mountain forest.
The Harz Mountains is the land of German fairy tales: steep-roofed houses with tiny windows and narrow, cobblestone streets, dark forests, rushing streams and stormy mountains.
The highest mountain in the Harz is the Brocken, setting for one of the most famous scenes in Goethe's Faust.
The devil takes Faust up on the Brocken on Walpurgis Night to tempt him, where he watches a wild night of revelry among the witches and other evil creatures.
According to local legend, witches gather on April 30 every year on top of the Brocken for a German version of Halloween.

Wernigerode Castle - 4k FPV with DJI Inspire
We spend a weekend in Harz and visited Wernigerode. The day was very gusty and cloudy so that we have to wait until the end of the day to get some good footage from the castle. In the end I flown one of the bigger batteries but had 17 minutes of material to work with.

Travel Germany - Visiting the Town Hall of Wernigerode
Take a tour of Wernigerode Town Hall in Wernigerode, Germany -- part of the World's Greatest Attractions travel video series by GeoBeats.
Deep in the heart of the Harz mountain region in central Germany sits the ancient town of Wernigerode.
In the central square of this municipality, amidst colorful houses, stands the eminent town hall.
It is still used as the main meeting and decision making locale of the town, and as such is not usually open to the public.
The Wernigerode Town Hall displays classic 16th century half-timbered German Gothic architecture.
The ornate architecture, oriel windows, and many small spires, aid in creating a grand focal point of the town.
Visitors to the structure often pass through a bustling market that thrives in the square outside the building.
