Andy's National Trust Travel Blogs: West Green House Garden, Hook, Hampshire
There are 500+ places of interest in the UK under the National Trust banner and I will be attempting to visit as many as I can, reporting as I do all the important stuff relative to accessibility.
In this episode I visit West Green House and Garden although the house isn't part of the deal because it is occupied by tenants and unavailable to view.
The main and deal breaking problem is the gravel, which made my scooter trip around the garden very uncomfortable. If you recall my scooter even has suspension!
The majority of the West Green House Gardens is flat and suitable for persons with walking difficulties. However the Lake Field parkland has uneven surfaces and some of the paths around the various gardens are gravel and may be difficult for wheelchair users.
Refreshments are available from The Tea Room which serves light lunches, cakes, biscuits, tea, coffee and cold drinks. For special occasions, Special Afternoon Teas may be pre-ordered with 24 hours notice.
Our toilets are located in the Courtyard Garden. We have one toilet cubicle with wheel chair access.
It is a beautiful formal garden laid out around the 18th-century country house at West Green in Hartley Wintney in the English county of Hampshire. The house is listed Grade II*. It is well known for its gardens and for its summer season of opera.

Andy's National Trust Travel Blogs: Clyston Mill, near Exeter

The miller had an 'eye' for the flow of the water, an 'ear' for the sound of stones grounding, a 'thumb' for the quality of flour and a 'feel' for the slow working of the mill.
There has been a mill named Clyston at Broadclyst for many hundreds of years. The first mention of it was first made in The Domesday Book in 1086, where it was referred to as Clistone/tona mill. Its location was a mystery at this time, but it was thought to be on a stretch of a river north of where the mill is today.
In 1806, Samuel Flood had the mill and a windmill ion the other side of the village. Proof of it in this location was given in 1859 when tenant miller Richard Burton was unable to mill flour on many occasions due to the lack of water, so he bought a steam engine from London to power the mill.
In 1862, a disastrous fire started in the mill stable and ruined the dwelling house, but luckily the mill and its machinery were saved. The waterwheel used to drive the millstones was a low-breast shot wheel made mainly of cast iron and wooden cogs.
In the 1930s, the mill was a very busy place, active into the early twentieth century. It pressed apples from 1915, ground corn into the 1930s and pumped water until the 1940s when the water tower was built.
The mill’s machinery was also used to drive equipment for pulping and pressing apples for cider. The cider press, apple crusher and some barrels are on display in what was the pump house.

Bristol (Listeni/ˈbrɪstəl/) is a city, unitary authority area and county in South West England with an estimated population of 442,500 in 2015.[5] It is England's sixth and the United Kingdom's eighth most populous city,[6] and the most populous city in Southern England after London. Bristol is one of the eight largest regional English cities that make up the Core Cities Group, and is ranked as a gamma world city by the Globalization and World Cities Research Network, the fourth highest ranked English city.[7] People from the city are known as Bristolians.[8] It borders the counties of Somerset and Gloucestershire, with the historic cities of Bath and Gloucester to the southeast and northeast, respectively. The city has a short coastline on the Severn Estuary (which flows into the Bristol Channel).
Iron Age hill forts and Roman villas were built in the area near the confluence of the Rivers Frome and Avon, and around the beginning of the 11th century it became known as Brycgstow (Old English the place at the bridge). Bristol received a royal charter in 1155 and was part of Gloucestershire until 1373, when it became a county.[9] From the 13th to the 18th century, Bristol was among the top three English cities after London (with York and Norwich) in tax receipts.[10] Bristol was eclipsed by the rapid rise of Manchester, Liverpool and Birmingham during the Industrial Revolution. Its prosperity linked to the sea since its earliest days, Bristol was the base for the early voyages of exploration to the New World: on a ship out of Bristol in 1497 John Cabot, a Venetian, was the first European since the Vikings to land in North America, and in 1499 William Weston, a Bristol merchant, was the first Englishman to lead an exploration to North America. The Port of Bristol has since moved from Bristol Harbour in the city centre to the Severn Estuary at Avonmouth and Royal Portbury Dock.
Bristol's modern economy is built on the creative media, electronics and aerospace industries, and the city-centre docks have been redeveloped as centres of heritage and culture.[11] The city has two universities, the University of the West of England and the University of Bristol and a variety of artistic and sporting organisations and venues including; The Royal West of England Academy, The Arnolfini, Spike Island, The Bristol Pavilion and The Memorial Stadium. It is well connected to London and other major UK cities by road, rail, sea and air including the M5 and M4 (which connect to the city centre by the M32), Bristol Temple Meads and Bristol Parkway mainline rail stations, and Bristol Airport. One of the UK's most popular tourist destinations,[12] Bristol was selected in 2009 as one of the world's top-ten cities by international travel publishers Dorling Kindersley in their Eyewitness guides for young adults.[13] In 2014 The Sunday Times named it as the best city in Britain in which to live,[14] and Bristol also won the EU's European Green Capital Award in 2015.[15]

Charlecote Park (grid reference SP263564) is a grand 16th-century country house, surrounded by its own deer park, on the banks of the River Avon near Wellesbourne, about 4 miles (6 km) east of Stratford-upon-Avon and 5.5 miles (9 km) south of Warwick, Warwickshire, England. It has been administered by the National Trust since 1946 and is open to the public. It is a Grade I listed building.
The Lucy family owned the land since 1247. Charlecote Park was built in 1558 by Sir Thomas Lucy, and Queen Elizabeth I stayed in the room that is now the drawing room. Although the general outline of the Elizabethan house remains, nowadays it is in fact mostly Victorian. Successive generations of the Lucy family had modified Charlecote Park over the centuries, but in 1823, George Hammond Lucy (High Sheriff of Warwickshire in 1831) inherited the house and set about recreating the house in its original style.
