The trials imposed upon the West Somerset Railway seem to be unrelenting of late, as the line suffered a vandalism attack in late April rendering one of their BR Mark 1's unserviceable for the time being. Nevertheless, testament to the determination of all the staff and volunteers at the WSR, all services and operations carried on as normal over the bank holiday weekend.
Running their Blue timetable, Bank Holiday Monday saw 4 trains in service along the railway, with an even split between steam and diesel traction. Partaking in the diesel services was visiting Class 37 - D6948; currently on-loan from the Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway.
Locomotives:
Ex-S&DJR 7F Class - 53808
BR(W) 7800 'Manor' Class - 7828 Odney Manor
BR Class 37 - D6948
BR Class 33 - D6575
All footage filmed on Monday the 6th of May 2019.

Just a short one from us this week, back next week with an epic little adventure. So during the summer we spent a day at the West Somerset Railway. We ended up nattering for most of it, and subsequently didn't film as much as normal. Hopefully you'll forgive us this week.

Take a journey on England's longest heritage railway - the West Somerset Railway.
We travelled by steam from Bishops Lydeard to Minehead in February 2018, as guests of the West Somerset Railway. Our journey took around 90 minutes and visited eight stations in between. We then had a 30 minute break at Minehead, before heading back to Bishops Lydeard.

The West Somerset Railway - Tour travelling from Minehead
A ride along the West Somerset Railway from Minehead.
The West Somerset Railway (WSR) is a 22.75-mile (36.6 km) heritage railway line in Somerset, England. The freehold of the track and stations is owned by Somerset County Council; the railway is leased to and operated by West Somerset Railway plc (WSR plc); which is supported and minority owned by charitable trust the West Somerset Railway Association (WSRA). The WSR plc operates services using both heritage steam and diesel trains.
It originally opened in 1862 between Taunton and Watchet. In 1874 it was extended from Watchet to Minehead by the Minehead Railway. Although just a single track, improvements were needed in the first half of the twentieth century to accommodate the significant number of tourists that wished to travel to the Somerset coast. The line was closed by British Rail in 1971 and reopened in 1976 as a heritage line.
It is the longest standard gauge heritage railway in the United Kingdom. Services normally operate over just the 20.5 miles (33.0 km) between Minehead and Bishops Lydeard. During special events some trains continue a further two miles to Norton Fitzwarren where a connection to Network Rail allows occasional through trains to operate onto the national network.

The West Somerset Railway | '40th Anniversary Weekend' | 8th June 2019
The West Somerset Railway first started to run trains over the former GWR branch line from Mineahead to Blue Anchor in June 1979, and since have expanded back to the original line length all the way to the GWR mainline at Taunton.
As Britains longest preserved standard gauge line, thew WSR has all the charm of a typical GWR Branch Line that starts up in the hills of the Quantocks, running through small villages and woodlands to the coastal resort of Minehead bringing holiday makers from far and wide!
40 years, and the WSR held an Anniversary Weekend to celebrate the re-opening of the line all those ago, and to show off the way it's been run ever since. With Steam, Diesel & heritage DMUs running in an intensive timetable, the event had some flare yet smoothness with the highlight being the 14 coach evening special with double headed Manors.
With the weather recovering from the previous couple of wet days, there was rather a large level of wind in the exposed areas, but none the less it blow what cloud there was away and helped to make a fantastic day overall! Hope you enjoy!
