West Ham is an intermodal interchange station in West Ham, east London, served by London Underground, Docklands Light Railway and National Rail main line trains. On the Underground network it is on the District and Hammersmith & City lines between Plaistow and Bromley-by-Bow and the Jubilee line between Stratford and Canning Town. On the DLR it is on the Stratford International branch between Abbey Road and Star Lane. On the main line West Ham is 4 miles 7 chains from the London terminus at Fenchurch Street and is situated between Limehouse and Barking, with services currently operated by c2c. The station was opened in 1901 by the London, Tilbury and Southend Railway on the route from Fenchurch Street to Barking that was opened in 1858. It was known as West Ham from 1924 to 1969. The station was rebuilt and significantly expanded in 1999 with the addition of four platforms, a new ticket hall and connecting passages. North London Line services were withdrawn in 2006 to make way for the DLR Stratford International branch, which opened in 2011.

I went to France and Belgium, partly to take pictures and film of 'war graves', for a piece of work that I want to put together. The weather went bad on me, and I made use of some time taking images of the small cemetary at Adinkerke, in Belgium.
What I found was a set of surprises that will require some research.
There are British and German graves from WW1, Russian graves from 1919, Czech graves from WW2, as well as the graves of many men who died in May 1940, defending the Dunkirk pocket.
The real surprise was the grave of 'Mungo-Park'. I was born and grew up near 'Mungo-Park Road', Hornchurch, Essex, which was named after this pilot, who died in WW2. I didn't know that this was where he was buried. I wonder how many people from that road even know who he was.
In some ways, it is good that old enemies are together in peace, but some of these graves pose questions that I cannot, at present, answer. Why are there Russians here? Who were the Czechs? What was the poor Egyptian doing getting killed in WW1?
I will do some research.

Keiller's London first walk - Vauxhall to Strawberry Hill (4K)

This is the first walk in Patrick Keiller's seminal film London, shot in 1992, where Robinson and the unseen narrator set out from Vauxhall to walk to Strawberry Hill in Twickenham which Robinson declares is the birthplace of English Romanticism.
My walk took me from Vauxhall Park through Stockwell and Clapham North to Clapham Common, then Wandsworth Common and Earlsfield. I then passed between Putney Heath and Wimbledon Common and through Alton Estate, Roehampton to Richmond Park.
