Western Development Museum, Saskatchewan, Canada
The Western Development Museum in Saskatoon represents the 1910 Boomtown Era. This museum has reconstructed a typical main street from a thriving prairie town during this era. Walk through 1910 Boomtown and visit old time shops, churches, doctor's offices and banks. Each building is filled with antiques that would have been in service in 1910. In behind the main street is a comprehensive collection of massive farm machinery in the agricultural and transportation galleries that complement the main museum.

Western Development Museum - Back to 1910 - Saskatoon, Saskatchewan
A Peek back in time...
When we walked into the Western Development Museum and met Josh Hourie the Development Marketing Assistant he fit in perfectly to the museum he worked at and is so proud of. Surrounded by old farming machinery, steam locomotives, horse and buggy cars, old sepia snapshots of prairie life, and all sorts of other Saskatchewan memorabilia his top hat and tails costume fit right in. And, after a little change of clothes in the museums antique costume photo studio, the GCAT crew were all decked out in old 10 gallon hats, blazers and frilly dresses, and we looked as if they had gone back in time to the early 1900's along with Josh. It's all part of the wonderful experience you'll have at the museum, which recreates a quintessential prairie town at the turn of the century and details the rich history of the province.
Like Josh told us, 'Saskatchewan is a young province but has a lot of interesting history.' Nowhere tells this history better than the Western Development Museum in Saskatoon (one of a network of four Western Development Museums in the province that make up one of the largest museum complexes in the country).
The museum in Saskatoon is a huge building full of intriguing artifacts and fun, interactive exhibits, rides and games detailing the history of the province. It also has 'Boomtown' which is a fascinating indoor street featuring all the shops that you would have found on any main street in Saskatchewan back in the early 1900's. From a post office and bank to a telegraph office and photo studio you can duck into any of these shops for a peek back in time.
Old or young, local or tourist the museum is a place that as Josh says The people of Saskatchewan should be proud to have such a gem in their province.' The GCAT crew have been there and enjoyed all it has to offer, and we can agree with Josh, it is a gem! Go and have a look for yourself.
See you on Boomtown Street back in 1910!

Western Development Museum in Moose Jaw, SK
Did a little visit to the WDM when I was in Moose Jaw awhile ago. I loved trains as a kid. Part of me still does. Lots of old cars and airplane stuff in here too. Makes one appreciate history a little. This is more of a slide show with some vid.
