Military Funeral, Medal of Honor Recipient, Ret. US Army Col. James L. Stone Jr.
Dallas, TX Nov. 14, 2012, retired US Army Col. James L. Stone Sr., 89, a Medal of Honor Recipient, died Nov. 9, 2012 at his Arlington, TX home, and was laid to rest with full military honors at the Dallas Ft. Worth National Cemetery.
Friends and family along with a couple of hundred attendees including Korean War veterans, gathered to pay their final respects to an extraordinary patriot.
The veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars had been ill for some time, family friends said.
At sundown on Nov. 21, 1951, Colonel Stone, then a first lieutenant was leading about 50 men from the First Cavalry Division of the Eighth Cavalry Regiment when Chinese forces began firing white phosphorous shells to mark the American position above the Imjin River, near Sakogae, North Korea. About 9 p.m., after an artillery barrage, Chinese troops swept up the hill.
Within minutes, the Chinese were nearly on top of Stone's platoon, wrote Peter Collier in his 2003 book, Medal of Honor: Portraits of Valor Beyond the Call of Duty. After the Americans repelled the assault and five others, the Chinese added another battalion. The 48 U.S. troops now faced perhaps 800 of the enemy, Mr. Collier wrote.
Shot twice in the leg and once in the neck, he carried the platoon's only working machine gun from place to place on the hilltop and repaired a flamethrower by himself while under fire, according to his Medal of Honor citation. When it was over, half his unit had been killed and most of the survivors were wounded.
Only because of this officer's driving spirit and heroic action was the platoon emboldened to make its brave but hopeless last ditch stand, the citation states.
The next day, advancing American troops found hundreds of enemy soldiers dead. But they didn't find Lt. Stone.
Captured along with six other survivors, Lt. Stone spent 22 months in a prisoner-of-war camp near the Manchurian border. He was freed in September 1953.
You can't imagine what it's like to see that flag again. It's like being reborn, Col. Stone said in a Star-Telegram interview. It really makes you appreciate your country.
He went on to serve in Germany, was in charge of ROTC units in Fort Worth during the mid-1960s and did a tour of duty in Vietnam in 1971.
He always tried to instill in the young folks, 'Of course you're patriotic and you're doing this for the right reasons,' Carr said. But he'd also say you should enjoy your time in the service, wear your uniform around.
The Rev. David Mosser, senior pastor of First United Methodist Church of Arlington, said Col. Stone was a very faithful church member. And he was a celebrity -- an outgoing, gregarious, friendly kind of human being.
James Lamar Stone was born Dec. 27, 1922, in Pine Bluff, Ark., and grew up in Hot Springs. He studied chemistry and zoology at the University of Arkansas, where he was in the Army's Reserve Officers' Training Corps.
He graduated with a bachelor's degree and worked for General Electric in Houston before being called to active duty in 1948. He was sent to Korea in March 1951 and was repatriated in September 1953 in a prisoner exchange. A month later, on Oct. 27, 1953, President Dwight D. Eisenhower presented the medal to him and six other men.
He retired from the Army after nearly 30 years and went to work with his son, James Stone Jr., in the home-building business.
He and Mary Stone met after Col. Stone had retired from the Army. She said she didn't know about the Medal of Honor until after the wedding.
He was a humble person and didn't talk about that part to me, she said.
Last year, 60 years after the battle at Sokkogae, the Army 90th Aviation Support Battalion in Fort Worth dedicated the Col. James L. Stone U.S. Army Reserve Center in his honor. Korean War veterans joined soldiers and Stone's family to honor him.
Besides his wife and son, survivors include son Raymond Stone of Euless; stepdaughter Amy Rodriguez of Arlington; one grandchild; and two step grandchildren.
Special Thank You

Marine Sgt. Zachary J. Walters KIA - Military Funeral Honors
June 18, 2010 (Dallas, TX) on a partly cloudy day with temperatures reaching into the upper 90's Sgt. Zachary J. Walters family and close friends attended his inurnment ceremonies at DFW National Cemetery.
The procession was led by the North Texas Patriot Guard Riders and escorted by the Dallas Police Department from the funeral home to the cemetery.
Once the procession arrived at the cemetery the ring of the Texas Liberty Bell could be heard throughout the 638 acres and beyond. An honor guard from the 1st Marines, 14th Regiment conducted the full military honors ceremony, which included a 3-volley salute, playing of Taps and folding the American flag and presentation to his parents.
Afterward family members made their way over to the Texas Liberty Bell to ring it in memory of Zachary.
He told me the reason he stayed in, his mother said. He said, 'I prepared these guys; I want to be with these guys.'
He went as their advance man and was killed by a roadside bomb. Friday morning, his family tried to comfort his fiancée, Victoria Falcon, with photos from happier times. Only family and faith have kept the pain from being overwhelming.
I wanted to be a part of his life, his grandmother said. He is my only grandchild and I wanted him to know that we loved him so much.
I've never been prouder in my life, she said. My precious boy made the ultimate sacrifice. He would not have had it any other way.
Thank You

New York - Brooklyn (Part.1)
Brooklyn is the most populous of New York City's five boroughs, with approximately 2.5 million residents, and the second-largest in area. Since 1896, Brooklyn has had the same boundaries as Kings County, which is now the most populous county in New York State and the second-most densely populated county in the United States, after New York County (Manhattan). It is also the westernmost county on Long Island.
Brooklyn was an independent city until it was annexed by New York City in 1898. It continues to maintain a distinct culture. Many Brooklyn neighborhoods are ethnic enclaves where particular ethnic groups and cultures predominate. Brooklyn's official motto is Eendraght Maeckt Maght. Written in the (early modern spelling of the) Dutch language, it is inspired by the motto of the United Dutch Provinces and translated Unity makes strength. The motto is displayed on the borough seal and flag, which also feature a young robed woman bearing fasces, a traditional emblem of republicanism. Brooklyn's official colors are blue and gold.
---------------------------------------------------------

French Lake Classic Auto Junk Yard Tour by The Mod Zoo & Mnpctech.com
The Mod Zoo Munkys join Bill Owen from Mnpctech in exploring one of the best Classic Auto salvage & Junk Yards in the United States. French Lake Auto Parts, Inc. is located 60 miles west of Minneapolis and St. Paul in French Lake, Minnesota. We have over 100 acres of cars and trucks ranging from 1900 to present and in all makes in models. Specializing in older vehicles. FLAP, Inc. a world leader in the automotive recycling industry has been family owned since 1956. Specializing in classic auto and truck parts from the 1920 to the present.
Last Friday, I went to one of my top five favorite places: French Lake Auto Parts (FLAP) in Annandale, Minn. This 100-acre salvage yard always has a great selection of early iron that ranges in the thousands of cars, and the inventory is continually changing. Owners Floyd and Skip Nolan keep unearthing new stashes of vintage tin, so the rotating inventory requires frequent visits. Throw in the yard’s popularity and it also means that if you find a 1957 Chevy or 1941 Ford in the yard like your vehicle back home, be sure to get all the parts you need while you’re there, because the car may be gone by your next visit.
My visit was extremely successful. I found some parts for my 1981 Impala coupe that I had been searching for over the past several years and some 1962 Cadillac parts. Unfortunately, all of the 1955 Cadillacs I had previously picked parts off of were gone, but Skip assured me there’s a huge cache of mostly complete cars dating from as far back as the 1930s and up to the 1960s on its way to French Lake. I’ve learned my lesson and will be headed back very soon to check out the fresh vintage metal in hopes of finding a “new” ’55 Cadillac.
The photos below show some of the cars present during my visit on May 10, 2013. There are some shots of cars in the main part of the yard that are getting as long in the tooth as a 1950 Buick grille (thankfully), as well as some of the cars (mostly Mopars and postwar Packards) that were part of a recent 250-car acquisition of project vehicles and a few parts vehicles.

Coyote stalks and starts going in for attack on elderly lady and dog
Coyote stalks elderly lady and small dog in city. Caught on tape. Had to stop filming because I thought the coyote was going to attack the lady but she started yelling and waving the stick. Coyote backed off. Location Burnaby B.C. Canada.
I tried to scare off this coyote for 3 weeks (before this video) and called the conservation officer but the coyote kept coming around stalking and growling at kids. Conservation officer told me he could not do anything unless the coyote bites someone. So I captured this footage to prove just how aggressive this coyote was. I did not want to wait until the coyote attack a child. Coyote disappeared after media pick up the story.
Keeping Safe Around Coyotes
If you live in an area that has a coyote population, these items can help you stay safe:
Personal alarm or whistle -- deters the animal and can get help for you if necessary.
Carrying a cell phone for emergencies is also helpful.
Carry a flashlight and an umbrella, both are known to deter coyotes from approaching you (open and close the umbrella and shine the light at them)
Avoid letting your pet off leash to roam freely while you walk. Keep your pet leashed.
Avoid walking during heightened coyote activity times, dusk and dawn.
If you are approached, stretch out your arms and legs to make yourself appear large and make noise. Stay calm. Never run.
