San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge
The San Francisco–Oakland Bay Bridge, known locally as the Bay Bridge or as the Emperor Norton Bridge, is a complex of bridges spanning San Francisco Bay in California. As part of Interstate 80 and the direct road between San Francisco and Oakland, it carries about 260,000 vehicles a day on its two decks.[3][4] It has one of the longest spans in the United States.
The bridge has two sections of roughly equal length; the older western section, officially known as the Willie L. Brown Jr. Bridge (after former San Francisco Mayor and California State Assembly Speaker Willie L. Brown Jr.), connects downtown San Francisco to Yerba Buena Island, and the newer unnamed eastern section connects the island to Oakland. The western section is a double suspension bridge with two decks, westbound traffic being carried on the upper deck while eastbound is carried on the lower one. The largest span of the original eastern section was a cantilever bridge. During the 1989 Loma Prieta earthquake, a portion of the eastern section's upper deck collapsed onto the lower deck and the bridge was closed for a month. Reconstruction of the eastern section of the bridge as a causeway connected to a self-anchored suspension bridge began in 2002; the new eastern section opened September 2, 2013, at a reported cost of over $6.5 billion, a 2,500% cost overrun from the original estimate of $250 million.[9][10] Unlike the western section and the original eastern section of the bridge, the new eastern section is a single deck with the eastbound and westbound lanes on each side making it the world's widest bridge, according to Guinness World Records,[11] as of 2014. Demolition of the old east span was completed on September 8, 2018.

No Wind Turbines to be built in Western Maryland State Fores
Governor Martin O'Malley held a news conference in the Savage River State Forest this morning to announce that his administration will not allow commercial wind turbines to be built on Maryland State Forest Land. O'Malley Stated that While we must continue to explore and make progress on creating a more sustainable and independent energy future for Maryland, we will not do so at the expense of the special lands we hold in the public trust
The debate to build wind turbines in Garrett State forest became popular to all Maryland Residents when the Baltimore Sun published its Dec 6th 2007 article stating A Pennsylvania company is asking the O'Malley administration for leases in two Western Maryland state forests so it can clear up to 400 mountaintop acres to build about 100 wind turbines.
After today's news conference David Dishneau of WTOPnews.com wrote that Opponents had claimed that allowing 40-story windmills on state-owned land in mountainous western Maryland would reduce its recreational value, spoil the landscape and lower property values, especially in the thriving Deep Creek Lake resort area of Garrett County.

Maryland High Point Hoye-Crest - Backbone Mountain - Our Lady of the Pines Tiny Church
Spent the day (mostly driving) way up North to Backbone Mountain and Hoye-Crest, the tallest point in Maryland! This 2.6 mile round trip, 600’ascent, is pretty easy, although very muddy at the bottom. Parking is easy and labeled on the side of the road and the trail is marked well too. The woods on the North side of the trail near the bottom have been harvested, so it looks a bit of a mess right now. Near the top is an interesting boundary marker between MD and WV. I would not like to have been the one to carry that thing up there! The peak is nice, with a bench, sign-in log, and a nice view. There are a couple geocaches up there too. Both are pretty easy to find if you use the hints. I’ll tell you, on the one at the summit, work it from the WV side!! On the way home, we stopped at Our Lady Of The Pines Catholic church. This church has the honor of being the smallest tiny church in the lower 48. Right next to it is the World's Smallest Mailing Office, the tiny post office serving the community of Silver Lake. What was very welcome was the not so tiny outhouse out back, which I assure you, is functioning well….and a geocache right behind too!

Historic home built in 1845, that has been renovated but still has plenty of historic charm with a large foyer, wood floors and staircase, second floor balcony and large windows. Turn right or left inside the entry for the family or living rooms, one with a wood burning insert, the other with a fireplace. Lovely windows provide lots of natural light. Modern, gourmet kitchen with stainless steel appliances that includes and induction stove. Lovely granite counters and back splash, large island and lots of cabinets. Beautiful double farm sink and a separate prep sink. Room for a small dining table in front of the wood stove and entry into the separate formal dining room. From the kitchen, one can access the large three season sun room where you can enjoy the mountain breezes and the lovely mountain and pastoral views. Also off the kitchen is a useful butler's pantry/mud room with lots of storage space in cabinets, closet, and hooks. There's also a mini fridge you can grab a cold one from and head outside or to the sun room or patio. Separate laundry room with wash sink, front loading machines, shelving, cabinets, and a drying rack is accessible through the pantry. There is a great home office space on the main floor with a built in desk, cabinets, and shelving. A powder bath is tucked into a small space under the stairs. Upstairs there are five bedrooms and three full baths. One bath is contained in one of the larger front bedrooms and the other two are Jack and Jill baths between two bedrooms. In true historic fashion, one of the bedrooms was once the servants quarters with a stairway down to the kitchen.
Landscaped with a variety of trees, shrubs, and perennial flowers including peonies, hydrangeas, rhododendron, lilies, lilacs, and irises. Brick parking area in the front of the house, brick sidewalks and brick front patio. Lovely two tiered stone patio on the side of the house. Lots of space for vegetable, herb, and flower gardening.
Beautiful setting with Evitts Creek flowing through the 189 acre property that is a mix of fields and forest. Hay fields or pasture, there is plenty of space for horses or livestock. Approximately 80 acres are tillable agricultural soil. Outbuildings include a 3 bay garage, 40x60 pole building for equipment storage, dairy house, corn crib and bank barn.
The property is on the National Register of Historic Places with the historic name of Big Bottom Farm or common name of Clauson Farm. Evidence in attic structures and local lore indicate that the property was part of the underground railway. This is truly a unique historic treasure in Western MD.
