Places to see in ( Columbus - USA )
Columbus is Ohio’s state capital. The city’s Scioto Mile is a string of parks on both sides of the Scioto River, with a huge interactive fountain and trails. On the west bank, the COSI science center offers hands-on exhibits and a planetarium. Downtown, the Columbus Museum of Art includes American and European paintings and a sculpture garden. The German Village area has restored brick houses built by 1800s settlers.
Columbus is the capital of the American state of Ohio and is located centrally within the state in the Mid-Ohio region. Sited in an area where the Rust Belt, Bible Belt, Appalachia, and the Plains meet, Columbus is a fusion of many different parts of America. It is the home of Ohio State University. The combination of Ohio Government and Ohio State University has fueled amazing growth both financially and physically in Columbus. It has created a business and research enviroment that has provided substantial employment opportunities to the diverse ethnic and local graduates of Ohio State University, and other academic institutions in Columbus. The Ohio Supercomputer Center (OSC), is projected to be one of the top 50 supercomputers in the world and among the top 10 supercomputing academic centers.

What Ohio's capital city (and largest city) lacks in mega sights and wild quirks it makes up for with unexpected food and arts scenes. Better yet, Columbus is easy on the wallet, an influence from Ohio State University's 59,000-plus students (the campus is the nation's second largest). A substantial gay population also has taken up residence in Columbus in recent years.
Named after the Italian explorer who sailed under the Spanish flag (In 1492, Columbus sailed the ocean blue), this city is the largest in Ohio in terms of population with 787,033, and the 15th largest city in the United States—though with only 1.7 million people, the metropolitan statistical area is relatively small (the 31st largest in the nation and the 3rd of 4th largest in Ohio). Major area employers are state government (as the state capital), Ohio State University (the largest student population in the nation) and numerous Fortune 500 companies headquartered here (Cardinal Health, Nationwide Insurance, Limited Brands, etc.). It is a day's drive from one half of the U.S. population and is located at the intersection of I-70 and I-71.

Michael Graves - At RIBA
Lecture date: 1987-05-01
As an introduction to a discussion of several museum and gallery projects by his own practice, Michael Graves discusses the typology of museums, reflecting on a series of plans including Schinkel's Altes Museum; McKim, Mead, & White's Brooklyn Museum; Soane's Dulwich Picture Gallery; and the adaptation of the Palazzo degli Uffizi into the Uffizi Gallery. Graves then presents a selection of his own work, including the remodelled Michael C Carlos Museum at Emory University, Atlanta, Georgia; the Youngstown Historical Center of Industry and Labor, Ohio; a competition project for the Wexner Center for the Arts in Columbus, Ohio; the much-delayed Newark Museum, New Jersey; and his controversial proposal for an addition to Marcel Breuer's original building for the Whitney Museum, New York.
After establishing his practice in Princeton in 1964, Michael Graves proved himself to be one of the most significant figures in the theory and practice of architectural design throughout the succeeding decades. As an architect and designer, Graves famously described himself as a 'general practitioner'. He began teaching at Princeton University in 1962, becoming the Robert Schirmer Professor of Architecture. He has been a visiting professor at numerous other universities throughout the United States.

Cartoon Crossroads Columbus - CXC
Who knew that Columbus is cartoon central? Columbus is home to the largest and most comprehensive research facility of printed cartoon art, it is home to historic and current cartoonists and it is becoming the home to an annual festival celebrating the art of the cartoon - Cartoon Crossroads Columbus (CXC). This CMC featured the leaders of Cartoon Crossroads Columbus including cartoonist Jeff Smith, creator of Bone and president & artistic director of CXC, Tom Spurgeon, editor of The Comic Reporter and director of the CXC and Lucy Caswell, professor emeritus and founding curator of the Billy Ireland Cartoon Library and Museum at OSU. Sherri Geldin, director of the Wexner Center for the Arts, moderated the discussion.
“The number of cartoonist from Ohio is ridiculous,” said Jeff Smith, creator of the popular cartoon Bone, who was raised in Columbus, honed his skills and training at OSU, ventured west and returned home to Columbus. Both CCAD and Ohio State offer training for all types of cartoonists and many people who came to Columbus for those programs have stayed or returned to Columbus. Columbus also has a rich history of cartoonists including Milton Caniff, his mentor James Thurber and Jeff Smith.
Cartoon Crossroads Columbus, or CXC, aspires to become just like Sundance, The Tribeca Film Festival, The Arnold Classic or South by Southwest by attracting people to an annual festival celebrating an art form. This is not a comic con-like event with costumes and celebrating pop culture, Cartoon Crossroads Columbus celebrates the art and history of cartoons.

Scape: Paintings by J. Domingo

Artist Reception & Performance

Artist Statement:
In this series of paintings, I was very interested in starting with romantic notions of lone figures in heroic landscapes. After quickly becoming uninterested in landforms, the paintings explore the conceptual and internal landscapes of dreams and epic fantasy stories. Have fun trying to create a narrative connecting the paintings; I have a hard time arriving at a happy ending.
About J. Domingo:
J. Domingo's work ranges from semi-abstract paintings to electronic noise performance and video installations to custom piñatas. He was raised in Vidalia, Georgia, and actually started college in East Georgia. He received his BFA from University of Georgia and MFA from the Ohio State University. He has exhibited and performed work in group exhibitions across the country, most notably the New Museum of Contemporary Art (NYC) and the Wexner Center (Columbus, Ohio). He spends his time away from art as an arts and crafts teacher at a Metro Atlanta middle school. He lives with his wife and son in the small hamlet of Covington where he enjoys learning about gardening like his literary hero, Candide.

OSUWMC: Multidisciplinary Team-Based Approach to Neuroendocrine Malignancy Theranostics
Traditionally the bulk of radiology and nuclear medicine practices have focused on diagnostics. The advent of multiple emerging agents in the theragnostic spectrum are changing practice focus to allow not only targeted diagnosis of disease, but also paired focused therapy. OSUWMC has been an early leader in this exciting frontier, starting to offer Ga-68 Dotatate PET/CT in 2016 to clinical patients for a targeted approach to staging and restaging of Neuroendocrine malignancies shortly after FDA approval. The first to offer this diagnostic tool in the region, OSU has continued to be a leading center in number of patients staged, with over 450 completed to date. With the recent availability of Lu-177 Dotatate, starting in late 2017, OSU was the first and only institution in the region to offer a theragnostic program for late stage patients suffering from well-differentiated neuroendocrine tumors. By engaging on the forefront of this clinical service, OSU developed a multi-disciplinary, team-based approach, incorporating leaders from Oncology, Nursing, Radiology, Pharmacy, and Radiation Safety to offer a well-coordinated, efficient, and unique opportunity to patients who previously had very few options.

Teaching art or teaching to think like an artist? | Cindy Foley | TEDxColumbus
What is the purpose and value of Art education in the 21st Century? Foley makes the case the Art’s critical value is to develop learners that think like Artists which means learners who are creative, curious, that seek questions, develop ideas, and play. For that to happen society will need to stop the pervasive, problematic and cliché messaging that implies that creativity is somehow defined as artistic skill. This shift in perception will give educators the courage to teach for creativity, by focusing on three critical habits that artist employ, 1. Comfort with Ambiguity, 2. Idea Generation, and 3. Transdisciplinary Research. This change can make way for Center’s for Creativity in our schools and museums where ideas are king and curiosity reigns.
Cindy Meyers Foley is the Executive Assistant Director and Director of Learning and Experience at the Columbus Museum of Art. Foley worked to reimagine the CMA as a 21st century institution that is transformative, active, and participatory. An institution that impacts the health and growth of the community by cultivating, celebrating and championing creativity. Foley envisioned and led the charge to open the 18,000 sq. ft. Center for Creativity in 2011. In 2013, the museum received the National Medal for Museums in recognition of this work. Foley guest edited and wrote chapters for Intentionality and the Twenty-First-Century Museum, for the summer 2014 Journal of Museum Education.
In 2012, Foley received the Greater Columbus Arts Council Community Arts Partnership award for Arts Educator. She was a keynote speaker for the OAEA (Ohio Art Education Association) 2012 Conference. She is on the Faculty of Harvard University’s Future of Learning Summer Institute.
Foley is a graduate of the University of Kentucky and The Ohio State University. Prior to joining the Museum, she was with the Institute of Contemporary Art at the Maine College of Art, the Portland Museum of Art, and the Wexner Center for the Arts.
