-- About this video –
Today we are starting the day with a short and classic New Zealand bush walk in the White Pine Bush Scenic Reserve in Awakeri, just outside of the Bay of Plenty city of Whakatane. This Whakatane walk is a great forest walk in the North Island especially if you are low on time. This forest walk in the Bay of Plenty takes only about 30 minutes to complete through stunning forest.
After the White Pine Bush Walk in Whakatane we go to the Awakeri Hot Springs to bathe in the naturally heated geothermal pools. These hot pools in Whakatane are affordable or even free if staying at the Awakeri Hot Springs Holiday Park. We spend the rest of the afternoon in these North Island hot pools in the Bay of Plenty. They are one of the hot springs in New Zealand worth trying.
So what do you think of these New Zealand hot pools? Would you add this walk in Whakatane and Awakeri Hot Springs to your Whakatane travel itinerary? LUK in the comments!

Continuing my walk from the Whakatane Gardens. I walked along the Whakatane River path into town, it took about a 10 minutes or less walk from the gardens. I plan to go back there in Winter to see how different it is. I hope you like it.

Whakatane and surrounding area.
Flying my U580 Quadcopter over this area was quite challenging as the wind at times went from a light breeze to being gusty so had to manually pilot the Quadcopter at certain times so was not able to work the camera as much as I wanted to, but I still got some good video footage from the flight.

Whakatane Rock Walk 2014
Our famous 'Rock Walk' in Whakatane that starts at the heads & ends at West End - A Summer Tradition for the extended King whanau....
This particular walk took us just over 3 hours because the boys were finding all sorts of islands to jump off and chose to swim from island to island while we watched them from the shore (rocks) and followed them round on foot.
The random clip at the end is an inside thang...
So, If you're in WHK in the Summer - you must do eeeettt! #memories

Whakatane North Island New Zealand
the best east coast beach in New Zealand
LIFE'S a BEACH WHAKATANE NZ
Music by Kevin MacLeod
Ohope Beach is a beach in the eastern Bay of Plenty, on the northeast coast of the North Island of New Zealand, six kilometres east and over the hill, from Whakatane.
It is a popular holiday destination during the New Zealand summer, and features several kilometres of safe swimming beaches. The western end of the beach, named 'West End' is a popular surfing area during the summer and Christmas period.
Coastlands Beach is located just before Whakatane, taking a left hand turn before going over the Whakatane bridge. It is a great place for landbased fishing and for putting the kontiki longline out. Snapper, kahawai, trevally and yellowtail kingfish are the main fish species caught here. Also an ideal place to go for a relaxing walk with the family and the dog.
