Xiyu fort and coastline, Penghu 在澎湖堡
The Qing dynasty fort at the Southern end of Xiyu island, and a bit of clifftop scenery from Xiaomen island, near the Whale Cave. Still very curious about the shipwreck near here and can't find any info online about it.

The Penghu Archipelago is surrounded by the seas. All of its islands are constantly eroded by the forces of waves, tides and oceans currents. The effect creates all kinds of wave-eroded terrain, such as wave-eroded cliffs, platform, gutters, caves, arches and columns. The best example of a wave-eroded arch is the Whale Cave in Hsiaomenyu (Hsiaomen Isle). It was once a basalt cliff. The basalt was constantly eroded by pounding waves that finally pierced the basalt cliff and created and arch.

We visited places on the main island and the smaller islands of Qimei and Wang'an. Unfortunately an approaching typhoon messed up our original plan of visiting another island, Jibei. We rented scooters which is the best way to get around. The double heart stone weir was indeed beautiful, the whale cave was impressive too. There was less people on the fine sand beach than we expected. Overall a nice trip.

Travel in Taiwan (2015, 9/10)
By Rick Charette
We woke up bright and early this day to catch an early-morning ferry to Qimei, the southernmost South Sea island. Hopping on scooters right at the pier (rental included in ferry-ticket price), we headed out on the very quiet coastal road – more goats than cars. Qimei’s iconic symbol is the Twin Hearts Stone Weir, made of stones piled laboriously, which fills at high tide and leaves fish stranded at low. The Tomb of the Seven Beauties – “Qimei” means “Seven Beauties” – is built around a well down which seven chaste Ming Dynasty maidens are said to have thrown themselves on the approach of nasty-intent Japanese pirates. Among the other must-visit Qimei attractions we checked off our to-do list were the picturesque Little Taiwan and Waiting for Husband Rock, two coastal rock formations viewed from above.
Rather than traveling straight back to Magong, we stopped off at Wang’an for a few hours’ exploration of this island. The highlights of our meander along the sleepy round-island coastal road? Tiantai Hill and the village of Zhongshe. Your walk up Tiantai Hill, the island’s highest point, leads to wonderful panoramic views over Wang’an and its numerous nearby islands. Wonderful Zhongshe is an old narrow-lane fishing village, almost all homes stone/coral-built. Be sure to stop in for the homemade ice-cream at the shop – shade is at a premium in the village – under the huge Penghu-renowned “Wang’an Township Tree,” an Indian almond tree planted by the shop owner’s mother in 1928.
Penghu is home to many long, fine-sand beaches. Four of the most popular are on the island of Penghu’s south side – Lintou, Aimen, Shanshui, and Shili. On the morn of this day we visited each in turn. I especially like Lintou and Shanshui. Lintou and Aimen are connected by a long beach-edge boardwalk; behind Lintou Beach is Lintou Park, a shady, aesthetically laid-out tree park in which you can sit yourself down to alfresco coffee at a bright and breezy café. At Shanshui’s entrance is a bustling cluster of beach-bum-style eateries and cafés, and backing its west side is an attractive protected lagoon area traversed in part by a long boardwalk. This leads to a high promontory that drops into the surf at the beach’s west end. Topped with a large lookout, formerly part of an off-limits military zone, the promontory is dotted with abandoned camouflaged bunkers, pillboxes, and other facilities, one outfitted with heritage photos and information boards (Chinese) on this spot’s military and ecological past.
Near Shili, pretty much at Penghu’s southwest tip, is the compelling, still-being-developed Qingwan Cactus Park. There are two foci. Cacti, yes – the archipelago’s dry, flattish, windswept environment is perfect for cactus growth. And military history – the park site is a former Japanese military base rich in ruins, notably hidden big-gun emplacements, bunker barracks, and command posts.

Hello everyone! Welcome to Penghu. We are your tour guides.(介紹自己)
Now, were going to introduce you the Sea-Crossing Bridge.
If you ride a motorbike, scooter and bicycle across the sea-crossing bridge, you will feel a gentle cool breeze. This is a very long bridge.
F:How long is the bridge?
In fact it is the longest bridge in Penghu stretching for 2494 meters. This bridge joins the only roads between Xiyu and Baisha .The view from the bridge is one of the most beautiful views in the world. From the bridge, the sea stretches as far as the eye can see and the sky is especially blue. Visitors always like to come here to take pictures and enjoy the wonderful scenery.
Ever since this bridge was built, the people of Xiyu have been able to go to Magong by road rather than only by boat. Although many people were killed during the building of the bridge their sacrifice is much appreciated by all the people who live in Xiyu as they can now drive a car to Magong.
There is a special cactus ice cream roadside stall just nearby the Sea-crossing Bridge and it is the most famous and delicious one in Penghu.
E:Where can I buy delicious cactus ice cream?
I:Oh!Just over there. Can you see?
E:Where?Where?
I:Just follow me!Lets go!
Cactus ice cream is unique to Penghu. When you come to Penghu you must try cactus ice cream.
If you have free time, you might like to invite your friends, classmates or your family to visit the bridge. I believe that you will have a very good time. A trip to this bridge will leave you with many unforgettable memories.
It's our pleasure to interpret for you today. Thank you very much!. Bye, bye~
Hsiaomen Geology Hall-Group 2
Tour guides are Lily, Shannon and Hank. They are going to show you Hsiaomen Geology Hall...
LSH:Hello, everyone! Were group 2. We are youre your guides today.
L: Im Lliy. S:Im Shannon. H: Im Hank.
LSH:Today we are going to go to Hsiaomen Geology Hall.
S:ㄏㄟˊ, where are we? H:I know. We are at the Whale Cave.
L:No, youre wrong. Look at the sign. Its Hsiaomen Geology Hall. So were at the entrance of Hsiaomen Scenic Spot nearby the Whale Cave, which is also a famous scenic spot.
S:Oh~ I understand. But what are the functions of this hall?
L:ha ha.. When it comes to that, I know the best. The hall provides a lot of geological data about Penghu that include terrain, culture, samples and rocks. And most of important thing is that it includes lots of pictures and information in detail(詳細說明).
H:O~I know that. Ive heard that the information in here is very clear and easy to understand. And the hall has many samples. Therefore, it seems if you were in the scene.
S:I cant wait to visit right now.
L:So, lets go now. By the way, we can avoid the strong sunshine by going inside the hall.
H:OKOK. Its very hot, lets get in and enjoy the air conditioner with us.
S:No, you should follow me, right?
LSH:hahaha Lets go.
The Hall includes special facilities to ensure ease of access for all. For this reason, disabled tourists and those with young children in prams can also visit. Hsiaomen Geolgy Hall was finished in April, 2001. It has eight exhibitions that. There are guide maps in the Hsiaomen island exhibition, exhibits of the Penghu archipelagos terrain, landscape models, rock exhibitions, ecology exhibition and ocean ecology exhibition, culture exhibition and samples exhibition. To ones surprise, the toilets in Hsiaomen Geology Hall are pretty clean and cleaned regularly. As a result, the hall has gained governments praise for several continuous years. If you would like to understand more about Penghu, Hsiaoment Geology Hall is a good place to visit.
We have taken our tourism students on an excursion to Hsiaomen Geology Hall. This experience gave us a good opportunity to commend the beauty of Penghu to them. For example, there is an observatory building on top of Hsiaomen Geology Hall where you can feel the sea breeze. At nightfall, tourists can enjoy a great view of the sea and the sunset at the same time. If you look to the right, you can see examples of the traditional vegetable gardens of Penghu that are surrounded by coral stone fences. These coral fences help protect crops from being harmed by the Northeastern winter wind. After visiting Hsiaomen Geology Hall, tourists can eat some of Penghus delicious and famous products. Local shops sell squid noodles, cactus ice cream among other local Penghuese specialties.

The Sea-crossing Bridge
The Sea-crossing Bridge-Group 4. Tour guides are Karen, Ching and Falco. They are going to show you The Sea-crossing Bridge.. Yes, We Can!! Yes, You Can!!
Hello, everyone. Welcome to Penghu. We are your tour guides Ching, Falco and Karen. Now, we are introducing the Sea-Crossing Bridge. This bridge is also named the Great Bridge. The bridge links the islands of baisha and Xiyu.
The Sea-Crossing Bridge is one of the longest bridges in Taiwan. It took a lot of time and money to build. The Sea-Crossing Bridge was first built from 1965 to 1970. This first bridge was five thousand five and fourty-one meters long. At that time it was an one-way bridge.
After 14 years, it was too old and dangerous to drive on. So the Sea-Crossing Bridge was reconstructed in 1984, and it was completed in 1996. After reconstruction the bridge became a straight two-way road. Many old people always said the bridge was three thousand meters long, in fact, the bridge was only two thousand four hundred and ninety-four meters long.
The Sea-Crossing Bridge has not only improved the traffic but also saved Xiyu residents a lot of money and time. The bridge has also improved the social life of the island is. Although the bridge is often very windy it is a wonderful place to take photos. Enjoy your trip.

The Penghu or Pescadores Islands are an archipelago of 64 islands and islets in the Taiwan Strait between China and Taiwan. The largest city is Magong, located on the largest island, which is also named Penghu. Covering an area of 141 square kilometers, the archipelago collectively forms Penghu County of Taiwan. It is the second smallest county in the country after Lienchiang.
