We had a couple of days in Kaikoura. We visited the legendary Seafood BBQ, did a 3 hour coastal walk and went on the Whale Watch Kaikoura trip. A once in a lifetime experience.

Kaikoura is an incredible little town on the east coast of New Zealand's South Island, and it is definitey a New Zealand Hidden Gem. The resiliency that the residents have shown over the past year has been nothing short of admirable. I wanted to show you guys why you need to visit Kaikoura! It is a nature lovers dream destination, and actually, there is something for everyone here. The Kaikoura earthquake really took its toll on the town over the past year, but they are open and ready for you to come and see them =)

Whale Watch Kaikoura - January 2017
On the 14th November a 7.8 earthquake shook our wee town in the wee hours of the morning along with the surrounding districts around us. The earthquake was powerful enough to lift the sea bed floor along the Kaikoura coastline. It took 6 weeks before we were able to be back out whale watching. January 2nd 2016 was our first day back out at sea commercially, since then we have had such amazing sightings of whales, dolphins, NZ fur seals and marine birds. We are so thankful for the many people who have come to visit not only our business but our beautiful town. We hope you enjoy this video of images we have been able to capture over the last 3 weeks of being back in business.

Kaikoura is the Maori (indigenous people of New Zealand) word for 'Food of the Sea' and is situated on the Southern East Coast of the South Island. Kaikoura is the marine wildlife hubb, Having a huge underwater canyon where whales and dolphins will dive into the depths of it to feed. The canyon stretches for over 60 kilometres and reaches depths of up to 1200+ metres, it is part of the Kermadec Trench system which extends far out into the Pacific Ocean.
Kaikoura is home to Sperm whales, Dusky dolphins, NZ Fur seals, Albatross, Orca, Humpback whales, Blue Whales, Hector dolphins and many other coastal seabirds.
