Accrington is a town in the Hyndburn borough of Lancashire, England. Accrington lies about 4 miles east of Blackburn, 6 miles west of Burnley, 13 miles east of Preston, 20 miles north of Manchester city centre and is situated on the mostly culverted River Hyndburn. Commonly abbreviated by locals to Accy.
Accrington is a former centre of the cotton and textile machinery industries. The town is famed for manufacturing the hardest and densest building bricks in the world, The Accrington NORI (iron), which were used in the construction of the Empire State Building and for the foundations of Blackpool Tower; famous for Accrington Stanley F.C. and the Haworth Art Gallery which holds Europe's largest collection of Tiffany glass.
Accrington is a hill town located at the western edge of the Pennines within a bowl and largely encircled by surrounding hills to heights of 300-400m. The Hyndburn or Accrington Brook flows through the centre of the town. Hill settlements origins were as the economic foci of the district engaging in the spinning and weaving of woolen cloth. Wool, lead and coal were other local industries.
The town has strong local travel links as Accrington railway station lies on the East Lancashire Line serving trains running locally and trains running from Blackpool to York. However, recent changes to the train timetables have been a disservice to Accrington, increasing the journey time to Preston (a vital link to London or Scotland) by up to 1.5 hours. However, there are still buses to Manchester every thirty minutes as well as more frequent services to other towns in east Lancashire.
Accrington Library, on St James Street, is a Carnegie library that opened in 1908. It is noted for its stained glass window designed by Gustav Hiller and as a place of inspiration for the young Jeanette Winterson. Near the Tesco supermarket, there is Accrington Skate Park which is popular during the school holidays. On Broadway, Accrington Police Station serves the Borough of Hyndburn.

I feel physically sick - Liverpool-born manager's outburst against Moss
Accrington Stanley manager John Coleman has slammed referee Jon Moss after his side lost their FA Cup fourth round match against Derby County. The match finished 1-0 with Rams attacker Martyn Waghorn's strike the only difference between the sides. Accrington did however have a man sent off on the hour mark before Frank Lampard's side were reduced to 10 men as the match approached full-time. It was a record crowd at the Wham Stadium with Moss in charge of proceedings. Liverpool -born Coleman, though, was clearly not happy with some of the decisions being made by the officials and his side tried to find an equaliser. I am rapidly falling out of love with football, he told reporters after the match. Each week you get stiffed by a decision. It's a tackle, it's not dangerous [for Accrington's red card]. It happened two minutes before on our lad and the referee said it was a coming together. The best thing I can say is that you couldn't tell we were playing with 10 men for the last 25 minutes. Even the most ardent Derby fan would say they didn't deserve a win - a draw at best. I sometimes feel like packing in. I feel physically sick. The sense of injustice is burning inside me.

having not had much oppotunity to get out with the drone due to the excellent lancashire mill town weather (it wasnt a coincidence they chose Lancashire for the cotton mills, its because its always damp!)
I grabbed the drone and went for an early morning wander, met lots of friendly dog walkers, most people show interest in the drone and want to have a chat, and ask the usual questions, never met anyone who was hostile to the fact Im flying a drone & filming, maybe is just because thats Lancashire folk!
