Otis 2000H Hydraulic Lift @ Whanganui War Memorial Hall
This lift is an Otis 2000H @ Whanganui War Memorial Hall. It's rather fast for a hydraulic and has classic leveling. This lift is fitted with the Otis UK voice. At the time of filming it was rather busy as there was an event going on. I haven't seen many Otis 2000's in New Zealand, let alone Whanganui. Opposite the war memorial hall is the Whanganui Regional Museum which also has an Otis 2000H but is currently closed until October. Thanks for watching!

Extract from Pictorial Parade No 113 The First Golden Shears Competition (1961) (W3471 2845)
New Zealand National Film Unit presents The Golden Shears (Pictorial Parade no. 113 extract)
Founded in Masterton, the first Golden Shears competition was held on 9 March 1961 at the Masterton War Memorial Stadium. The inaugural event attracted some 300 shearers from New Zealand and Australia, including the legendary Godfrey Bowden. Bowden's brother, Ivan Bowden, was the very first champion.
The idea for a championship came about in 1958, when members of the Wairarapa Young Farmers' Club planned their event for the annual Agricultural and Pastoral Show (A&P Show). The competition was such a success, the organisers decided to take it to the next level. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, the Golden Shears competition became a hugely popular event, with fierce rivalry between some of the great shearers of the land. The inaugural Golden Shears of 1961 surpassed all expectations with crowds so great, the local Army was called upon to control crowds around the stadium.
As the popularity of the contest grew, so did the professional attitude toward shearing. Many shearers were involved in training programmes and fitness courses. More than that, the Golden Shears became more than just a simple shearing competition. It became a foundation, a centre point, and arena, where many constitutional meetings were held and our world champions were founded. For the shearers, the wool handlers and wool pressers, the dreams are still the same as those pioneers in 1961 -- to strive, compete fairly, win your grade and become supreme champion of GOLDEN SHEARS.

This film is a segment of Pictorial Parade 113 produced by the National Film Unit. The National Film Unit was established to publicise New Zealand's participation and achievements during the Second World War. After 1945 the Film Unit expanded from producing weekly newsreels to making documentaries and films to the order of Government Departments. During its existence the Film Unit produced films for national organisations as well as many films on its own initiative. The private film industry in New Zealand relied heavily on the National Film Unit's extensive film processing facilities.

Welcome to Bulls
Welcome to Bulls. The quintessential small New Zealand town with a long history and a great community feel. It's true - approximately 14,000 cars pass through Bulls every day, and those who stop find a wonderful selection of shops, cafés and eateries.
For the outdoors type, the beautiful Rangitikiei River offers great walks and riding. Maybe take the drive down to the sea at nearby Scott's Ferry or pull over and take in the sights and sounds of Ohakea Air Base; an important part of the Bulls community, bringing a real vibrancy and attracting aviation buffs from around the globe!
Bulls was named after James Bull, a carpenter from Chelsea, who arrived in 1857. Bulls became a township in 1873. The rest is history.
A testament to the popularity of the town is the fact that a new retail development is under construction, incorporating a large supermarket and new service station.

Flyer:
For New Zealand, along with Australia and Turkey, the Gallipoli campaign played an important part in fostering a sense of national identity. Summed up by highly decorated New Zealand infantryman Ormond Burton, somewhere between the landing at Anzac and the battle of the Somme, New Zealand very definitely became a nation.

Prince Harry's NZ itinerary: Where can you find him?
Prince Harry touches down for the first time in New Zealand tomorrow, after a month-long secondment with the Australian military.
During his Kiwi tour he will be visiting towns and cities across the country, including Stewart Island.
His first stop will be Wellington, where he will be formally welcomed by the Governor-General at Government House.
Woman's Day associate editor Sebastian Van Der Zwan will be on tour with the prince, and joined Paul Henry this morning to discuss his itinerary.
It's pretty full-on, he says. You are on a plane constantly and waking up first thing in the morning following him around.
The royals are huge for Woman's Day. We just put out our royal baby issue, we turned that around in a day. We were the first magazine in the world to have pictures of Princess Charlotte.

Cemetery Circuit History 2014 - Full
Of international fame and over 60 years old, this is the Southern Hemisphere’s “TT Isle of Man” and it captures the hearts and minds of motorcycle enthusiasts and spectators everywhere! Formula 1, BEARS, classics and side cars, international and national legends, this street circuit is one mile long with eight corners, two railway crossings, an over-bridge and blind “S” bends beside the old Whanganui cemetery. If you have just a sniff of petrolhead in you, you won’t want to miss this.
We went to capture a little of the inside running and history of the event and talked to a few people in the know. Rod Coleman, the first Kiwi to win the Isle of Man TT and international GP racer, Ray Whitham, Cemetery Circuit archivist and historian, Allan (Flea) Willacy, event organiser and Brian Bernard, Bernard Racing and international and NZ National Champion share a few of their thoughts about the event and why it is special to Whanganui.
