Salt Air Exclusive Helicopter Tours bay of Islands
Departing from central Paihia or from the helicopter landing areas available at selected luxury lodges in Northland, we fly for approximately 40 minutes via Northlands spectacular harbours, such as the Whangaroa Harbour and Rangaunu Harbour. We also pass across some beautiful beaches such as Coopers Beach, Doubtless Bay and of course the famous Ninety-Mile Beach. Passengers are offered the option of making a stop on Ninety-Mile Beach to spend some time exploring the beach itself before proceeding to our landing area at Waitiki Landing, 20km from Cape Reinga.
Once landed an exclusive vehicle will meet the helicopter to begin the ground tour. As this tour is a sole charter, it is for an unspecified time, however the duration is approximately four hours around the top of New Zealand in a comfortable air-conditioned vehicle. During the tour, a gourmet picnic lunch will be served at a sheltered and secluded spot recommended by your guide on the day. The tour will take you to the Cape Reinga Lighthouse, Tapotupotu Bay, then across to the Te Paki stream with its giant sand dunes. The opportunity to enjoy some exhilarating sand tobogganing is also available.
The flight back to your departure point includes some of the most spectacular coastal scenery Northland has to offer. You will fly over the Parengarenga Harbour and Great Exhibition Bay, which are only visible by air or by sea. This area is very remote and without a doubt one of the most beautiful places in New Zealand with it's pure white sand and crystal clear water. There are other secluded private beaches where we are able to stop for a stroll or swim if passengers chose this option. The flight also passes across the Houhora Harbour, the Cavalli islands, Kauri Cliff's golf course and the spectacular Bay of Islands if this is your original departure point.
Other options which can be included in the Helicopter VIP Tour:
Tane Mahuta in conjunction with Footprints Waipoua.
Footprints is operated by local Maori on Northlands rugged West Coast. Let Kupe's (NZ's first discoverer) descendants take you on a guided walk of the largest kauri forest in the world and introduce you to their relationship with mother nature, both spiritually and culturally. This ecologically significant environment, in former times a home and playground to Maori, is brought to life by not only the sounds and potential sightings of its inhabitants but by friendly experienced local Maori guides who willingly share their knowledge, stories, song and musical instruments to enlighten and enhance this tranquil and spiritual location. A highlight of your experience with Footprints will be an introduction to Tane Mahuta - God of the Forest. (Forest Tour duration approx. 2 hours). Your flight path will then continue north via the Hokianga Harbour, remote and beautiful west coast areas via the Herekino Harbour to the world famous 90-Mile Beach.
4WD Quad Bikes on Ninety-Mile Beach
Again, a guided tour for approximately 1½ hours on 4WD Quad Bikes around Shipwreck Bay and the reefs at the southern end of 90-Mile Beach. This tour is definitely for the young at heart, and requires the passengers to ride their own 4WD Quad Bikes - great fun for all ages.
