In My Footsteps: Cape Cod - Marconi Wireless Site & White Cedar Swamp
The 6th video in the In My Footsteps: Cape Cod series features the history and natural beauty of the Cape in the same general location. The Marconi Wireless Site was the location of the first Transatlantic Wireless communication in 1903 between US President Theodore Roosevelt and King Edward VII of the UK. A short walk west is the eerily beautiful White Cedar Swamp which feels like a totally different world from the beaches of the National Seashore. These places and dozens more are featured in my first book In My Footsteps: A Cape Cod Travel Guide available in stores and online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Schiffer Books.

Here is our journey down the Cape Cod Cedar Swamp Trail. Visit my website at absolutelyentertaininginc.com Subscribe to my channel here on youtube!!
This mostly shaded loop, great on a hot day, explores one of the Cape's few remaining stands of Atlantic white cedar, located on the former site of Camp Wellfleet, a U.S. Army base. Trailside markers identify many of the common plants, and you'll probably get to see and hear some forest birds as well, jamming to electronica.

The town had a population of 2,750 at the 2010 census,[1] which swells nearly sixfold during the summer. Cedar swamp 1
In this video you will see machinery in action cutting and logging a Cedar forest. In one video you will see one of the machines that went down in the Cedar bog. You will then see the work it took to remove the machine. The Cedar Swamp is reforested with trees when sections are complete. Byrd Bros has planted 4,000 Cedar trees this year alone on another tract of land in Egg Harbor Township. The trees are all purchased from the State of New Jersey for these types of programs. We also build and maintain the NJ Audubon Society bird sanctuaries in which Schairer Brothers has just started building Cedar bird houses. Feel free to leave us your comments. April 18 cedar swamp hike 1
This is a hike through a cedar swamp in the northeastern section of Hammonton Creek Wildlife Management Area (NJ Fish & Wildlife). The trail is actually on the map as Darmstadt Avenue, as it is a dirt extension of Darmstadt Avenue. This is in Mullica Township, Atlantic County, in the New Jersey Pine Barrens.
I start the hike off the trail, down in the swamp. Then I show you the Pitch Pine uplands just south of the swamp, and show you the transition zone, from Pitch Pine uplands to Cedar swamp. We follow the trail/road as far as I could go without boots.
On this aerial photo on Bing Maps ( ) you can see the entire swamp. The diagonal line going through the middle of it is our road/trail. The swamp actually extends north of the road that's called Weekstown Road on the map.
a day in Cedar Swamp
A 40 minute expedition into Cedar Swamp in Westborough condensed into a 6 minute video. Yes, I fell in at the beginning.
Trip to Cape Cod
Cindy, Brent and I drove to Eastham on Cape Cod to visit Karen, Joe and Sam. We hit a few beaches, caught up with old friends and even explored the Great Cedar Swamp Trail.

In My Footsteps: Cape Cod - Wychmere Harbor
The 18th video in the In My Footsteps: Cape Cod series features one of the most beautiful harbors on the Cape. One of three harbors in Harwich, Wychmere Harbor houses many boats during the warmer months and has some spectacular views as well. The overlook at Lawson Park just off of Rt. 28 is one of the most well known views on the entire Cape.
This place and dozens more are featured in my first book In My Footsteps: A Cape Cod Travel Guide available in stores and online at Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Schiffer Books, and Christopher Setterlund.com.

Marconi Beach. Wellfleet-Cape Cod, MA
One of the most pristine beaches on the Cape. It faces the Atlantic and was a picture perfect day. People were sunbathing, swimming, and just hanging out. Occasionally, sea lions are known to pop their heads out in the water but didn't see any that particular day. For history buffs, this place was named after Guglielmo Marconi who did all those radio wave experiments right up the hill from where this was filmed. Also, the site of where the Pirate ship Whydah wrecked in 1717. Shot on my iPhone.

Spring in a cedar swamp, part 1
I start the video from inside the cedar swamp, several hundred yards in from the edge, on a trail that is really a dirt road.
At the end my cell phone rang, so I decided to just shoot the video in two parts.
At one point I'm telling what direction we are walking in, but momentarily had trouble remembering! We were walking southwest.
