Winter Hang Gliding on Cape Cod
Flying the outer Cape January 8, 2016. Strong east winds (about 30 mph) ensure an interesting launch and guarantee good lift along the cliffs. The hour flight along the National Seashore to Nauset Lighthouse (about 5 miles south of the launch) and back was beautiful and exhilarating. This part of the Cape experiences a fair amount of erosion with the beach sands moving to the north and south from the approximate location of Whitecrest Beach. Just as the sands move north and south so does a component of the east wind hitting the land making flying north or south a fast track but making the return slower. Hang gliding has a minimal impact on the coast as we launch in one small spot and land on the Wellfleet town beach just below.

Although sharks are common in our waters. Shark attacks are rare. Maybe if Pauly D and Vinnie show up with Snookie. Their frequency will increase.
From Duskies, threshers and great whites. NJ is a feeding lane for some of the oceans top predators.
