White Nile in Juba, South Sudan
The White Nile is a river in Africa, one of the two main tributaries of the Nile; the other is the Blue Nile. The name comes from colouring due to clay carried in the water.
In the strict meaning, White Nile refers to the river formed at Lake No, at the confluence of the Bahr al Jabal and Bahr el Ghazal Rivers. In the wider sense, White Nile refers to all the stretches of river draining from Lake Victoria through to the merger with the Blue Nile. These higher stretches being named the Victoria Nile (via Lake Kyoga to Lake Albert), the Albert Nile (to the South Sudan border) and then the Mountain Nile or Bahr-al-Jabal. White Nile may sometimes include the headwaters of Lake Victoria, the most remote of which being 3700 km from the Blue Nile.
The 19th-century search by Europeans for the source of the Nile was mainly focused on the White Nile, which disappeared into the depths of what was then known as Darkest Africa. The White Nile's true source was not discovered until 1937, when the German explorer Burkhart Waldecker traced it to a stream in Rutovu, at the base of Mount Kikizi.

South Sudan - Fisherfolk of the White Nile
Fishing in the swamps of the river White Nile in South Sudan is the hardest job in the world. The fishermen and their families are extremely vulnerable. The region is infested with myriads of mosquitoes and dangerous parasites. Hippos and Crocodiles, strong winds and powerful currents threaten the fishers life. Their camps are often at long distances from the next villages. Medical care is not available. Diseases that are easy to treat often cause death. Lacking of life jackets lead to a high number of fatal accidents. The fisher often lack the basic tools for fishing. Fishing is the last resort for people in poverty.

How the Nile Can Provide Life and Divide Nations | Part I

Video Description:
In this 2-part episode we want to take a look at the Nile River in Africa. The river plays a central role for all nations trough which it flows and it forces them to cooperate. At the same time, the sharing of water can also lead to tensions. We want to focus on these two aspects by looking at two construction projects along the Nile. For one, the Aswan High Dam, one of the first and to date the largest Dam along the Nile, and the Grand Ethiopian Rennaisance Dam, which is still under construction but is already sparking a dispute.

Why does the channel have a new name?
As you may have noticed, the channel has changed its name from Society of Geeks to neo.
And to make this clear: It's not about a change of ownership, it's just taste.
When I launched the channel almost 3 years ago, I would have never thought the videos would get the attention they now have. The initial scope of the types of topics were very limited but now has expanded. The channel was thought to deal primarily with analysing films but now they have become more political. And the name should have the flexibility to fit for both aspects, as well as for any genres in the future that I can’t even think of right now.
And with this new name, it feels right to approach the next goals and really develop the channel into something exciting.
Thanks for your understanding.

The amazing whitewater and standing waves in Uganda's White Nile are currently threatened by the construction of the Isimba dam. In a last ditch effort to save some of these world-class whitewater spots, Mariann Sæther and Nouria Newman have come to Uganda to ride some of the river's best waves and rapids to help raise awareness of the vibrant kayaking industry that the river supports. Follow these two intrepid ladies into this kayaking paradise as they embrace the culture and people along the banks of the White Nile.
Mariann and Nouria spent two weeks living in a small island in the White Nile to get the footage for this episode. They took turns filming on Mariann's Canon 7D and a GoPro Hero 3. Don't be fooled by the bucolic surroundings though, they had fantastic hosts and their biggest problem behind the scenes was making sure all their batteries stayed charged.
