Nova Scotia's South Shore
Nova Scotia, on the south east of Canada, is a place of intrigue and beauty, and the regions' South Shore epitomises that. Not only are there dozens of proud lighthouses standing watch along this rugged coast there are also quaint small towns, like Lunenburg and Shelburne, with historic streetscapes so unchanged you feel as though you might just have entered a centuries-wide time warp.
This video shows a few of the highlights of the South Shore, for example:
Mahone Bay
Mahone Bay is considered by many as one of the most beautiful towns in Canada. Situated on a bay of more than 100 islands is a treasury of history, culture and 19th century architecture. The charming main street hosts an assortment of art galleries, specialty shops and living museums - all within an easy stroll.
Romantic restaurants, comfortable small inns, golfing and a full service spa complement the serenity and natural beauty of Mahone Bay to make this a very special holiday destination.
Oak Island
The Oak Island Money Pit is the site of the world's longest running hunt for lost treasure. For hundreds of years, treasure hunters have ventured here to recover the treasure lies in the Money Pit, protected by a series of ingenious traps.
Strange man made artefacts have been recovered from the pit over the years, but to this day, the treasure still remains buried.
Lunenburg
The picturesque town of Lunenburg is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and winner of Prettiest Painted Places in Canada. You can enjoy Lunenburg's historic architecture, working waterfront, walking tours, seafood and local specialties, fine art, golf courses, festivals, Fisheries Museum of the Atlantic, and many other attractions.
Liverpool
A vibrant and lively community the Port of the Privateers boasts many festivals and attractions. You can experience the majestic colonial houses of captains past and visit wonderful museums showcasing the area's rich history, country music, folk art, world class photography and wildlife. Hike along the beautiful coastline dotted with lighthouses and dig your toes into our unspoiled white sand beaches. At the end of the day sit by the Mersey River and bask in the glow of the setting sun all the while imagining the Privateers of long ago.
White Point
White Point is home to world-renowned White Point Beach Resort, tucked away in a wooded area along the coast. Visitors have enjoyed the Resort since 1928. Centrally located on Nova Scotia's South Shore, just 90 minutes from Halifax, White Point is surrounded by water - the Atlantic Ocean, a fresh water lake and a tidal estuary

White Point Beach Resort Commercial 1997
1997 ad for White Point Beach Resort entitled Day Trips. White Point is well worth a day trip however I recommend spending a couple of days enjoying this unique spot just southwest of Halifax. I've had the pleasure of staying here many times and even got married here! Lots to do like golf, swimming, canoeing, hiking, games and of course some beautiful spots to lay and do nothing if you wish!. Often times they have live musical entertainment in the evening and the food is spectacular! Try the planked salmon! Children will love the bunnies everywhere. A fire claimed the main lodge a couple of years ago and it is missed however they have rebuilt in a completely new direction from the cabin-like feel of the old one but keeping akin to it's predecessor, it boasts those wonderful beach stone fireplaces. Check out White Point! or the 800 number in the commercial still works!
