WHITE WATER EXCITEMENT - American River, California
Check out White Water Excitement:
My son & I did an amazing two day White Water Rafting trip in Sacramento, California.
Day 1: The South Fork American River is by far one of the best whitewater rafting rivers in California. The river boasts 50 rapids in 21 miles. This river has plenty of calm, relaxing water, some moderate class 3 rapids surrounded by stunning wilderness scenery.
Day 2: The Middle Fork American River rafting trip is one of California’s premier adventures. Making it’s way through one of the most remote white water canyons in the state, The Middle Fork boasts some of the finest summertime Class III and IV river rafting in California. The river gushes 18 miles through an intensely isolated and deep canyon and is broken up by the many challenging Class III and IV whitewater rapids. Gotta love the intensity and excitement of the Tunnel rapid.

Rafting in California
In this episode of Cheap Family Travel, ( Nick, Regan, Maggie and Kate went rafting in Northern California with Six Rivers Rafting Company ( along the Trinity River. Six Rivers is a young rafting company that was started by friends who's goal is to provide the highest quality rafting experience that caters to you, the rafter. Rafting is a great family adventure that requires teamwork and is tons of fun. We liked that Six Rivers is a small company that takes out small groups and individualizes each rafting trip. Along with shooting the rapids like Surprise and Hell's Hole, we enjoyed a short hike to a waterfall, jumping off rocks into deep swimming holes, floating down the river, seeing Osprey and other river wildlife, and learning to trust each other.
Six Rivers Rafting offers river trips from class I river floats to Class V wild rides along the Trinity and Klamath Rivers. They are a green company that participates in the no-plastic-on-the-river policy and serves local, organic food. You can do a half-day, full day or multi-day rafting trip through the beautiful forests of Northern California. Cheap Family Travel totally recommends whitewater rafting as a great family adventure. Also, don't forget to pick up your whitewater rafting trip photos from Serendipity Snapshots after you ride the rapids.
Middle Fork American River
The Middle Fork American offers an exciting whitewater rafting trip for adventurous first-timers. The run features the famous Tunnel Chute Rapid that culminated in passage through a tunnel blasted out by Gold Rush era miners.

VOICE-OVER:
DROUGHT?

WHAT DROUGHT?

YOU WOULDN'T KNOW THERE'S A RECORD WATER SHORTAGE IN CALIFORNIA WHEN RIDING DOWN THE AMERICAN RIVER NEAR SACRAMENTO.
THANKS TO SCHEDULED DAM RELEASES, RAFTING HAS CONTINUED FIVE DAYS A WEEK HERE THIS SUMMER DESPITE THE DROUGHT.
more quick nats
STILL...THE OWNER OF THIS RAFTING COMPANY SAYS HIS BOOKINGS ARE DOWN ABOUT 25 PERCENT...DUE TO PUBLIC PERCEPTION.
SOUNDBITE: Norm Schoenhoff, Owner Whitewater Excitement
We hear from a lot of people when they call our office for reservations. 'Is there going to be enough water to raft this year? Is there going to be any water to raft this year?' We have a lot of water up here to raft.
BUT OTHER CALIFORNIA RIVERS....THAT DON'T HAVE REGULAR DAM RELEASES...ARE NOT AS LUCKY.
POPULAR RECREATION RIVERS LIKE TRUCKEE, MERCED AND KERN HAVE ALL SHUT DOWN WHITEWATER RAFTING FOR THE SEASON.
SOUNDBITE; Luther Stephens, Whitewater Voyages
In a normal season, you're probably going to see the water close to this willow tree up here.
IT'S CAUSED AN ECONOMIC HARDSHIP FOR AREAS WHICH RELY ON THE NORMALLY BUSY SUMMER RAFTING SEASON.
MANY LAID OFF RIVER GUIDES AND ADVENTURE SEEKERS ARE GOING OUT OF STATE FOR THEIR WHITEWATER FIX.
SOUNDBITE; Luther Stephens, Whitewater Voyages
Seems like the entire country got a lot of water except for California. So a lot of them went to Colorado, Oregon, Idaho.
BACK ON THE AMERICAN RIVER, TRIPS WILL BE REDUCED TO JUST TWICE A WEEK STARTING IN SEPTEMBER.
SOUNDBITE: Norm Schoenhoff, Owner Whitewater Excitement
We're all praying and hoping we have a good year next year and we get a good snowpack and it fills up the reservoirs.

South Yuba River - 49 to Bridgeport Kayaking - 1700 CFS
My first time on the South Yuba ever and I get on one of the best pieces of whitewater at a perfect flow! Enough water for some pushy fun that covers up the rocks!
After a week of raining up in the Yuba drainage, I was super lucky to get invited on a run on the 49 to Bridgeport section of the South Yuba River! Huge thanks to Tracy Young for showing me the lines and giving beta, and the group for an awesome day! So excited to run this section more and get more comfortable with it, there are definitely a lot of lines to clean up!
