Norfolk wildlife - Whitlingham Country Park
Join me as I discover some of the wildlife that has made a home at Whitlingham broad in Norfolk.
In this video we see some of the common and slightly less common birds that can be found at the broad and learn a little bit about their ecology and how they eek out a life in this man-made landscape.
Whitlingham Broad is a relatively new addition to the landscape and was only handed over to Whitlingham trust in 2004. It is managed for people and wildlife and with its crystal clear water created the perfect habitat for wetland birds.

Trowse Newton Hall Ruins, Whitlingham Norwich.
Once a medieval country retreat to the Priors of Norwich City Cathedral, Trowse Newton Hall would have been the grandest home in the whole of Whitlingham in its day. Regularly visited by dignitaries including royalty arriving on the nearby river by rowing boat in the Victorian period it was turned into a ruin with additional features added to great the Gothical picturesque ruin we see today.

Norwich is a city on the River Wensum in East Anglia and lies about 100 miles north-east of London. Norwich is the regional administrative centre for East Anglia and county town of Norfolk. During the 11th century, Norwich was the largest city in England after London, and one of its most important. Norwich remained the capital of the most populous English county until the Industrial Revolution.
In May 2012, Norwich was designated England's first UNESCO City of Literature. Since 1298 Norwich has returned two members of parliament to the House of Commons. Until 1950 the city was an undivided constituency, returning two MPs. Since that date the area has been divided between two single-member constituencies: Norwich North and Norwich South.
The principal local football club is Norwich City, also known as the Canaries, who play in the second tier of English football, the Championship, after being relegated from the Premier League at the end of the 2015–16 season.
Norwich stands north of the A47 (bypassed to the south of the city), which connects it with Great Yarmouth to the east, and Kings Lynn and Peterborough to the west. Norwich railway station lies east of Norwich city centre, and is managed by Abellio Greater Anglia. The bus companies serving Norwich include Anglian Bus, First Norfolk & Suffolk, Konectbus, Sanders and Stagecoach Norfolk. Norwich International Airport is a feeder to KLM's Schiphol hub. FlyBe, Eastern Airways, and Bristow Helicopters all serve Norwich.

Greentraveller Video of Whitlingham Visitor Centre, The Broads, Norfolk
Right on the edge of Norwich, Whitlingham Country Park is Broads-lite, easily accessible from just about anywhere in the city yet with a properly rural feel. It has a footpath around the entire Broad (about an hour's walk), a converted barn with Broads Authority information centre and decent café, and various paths through the woods and meadows. You can also get out on the water at the Outdoor Education Centre at the western end of the Broad or by taking a trip on the solar-powered and wheelchair-accessible boat, Ra.
